Before Facebook and the world of social media, photographs were printed from film negatives processed in a lab. Prints could be ordered in various sizes to give as gifts to friends and loved ones or framed to preserve memories. The invention of the digital camera made photographs easier to take. Individuals could snap photos of anything and everything without having to worry about wasting film. Users could instantly delete photographs not worth keeping or sharing. Printing photos from a digital camera used the same process as film negatives, but the photos were printed from a memory card or CD.

Now with the use of camera phones and smartphones, everyone is able to take photos on the go and share their photos instantly. Apps such as Hipstamatic on the iPhone enable the smartphone handset to be a virtual instamatic camera giving the effect of a vintage photograph. Camera 360, Vingette and Retro Camera are apps available to the Android operating system that create the feel of an actual camera rather than a camera phone. Photos taken with these apps can be uploaded to sites such as Facebook, Flickr, Snapfish and Photo Box, which have revolutionised photo sharing across social media.

Printing photos shared through social media has been problematic due to the low-resolution of uploaded images. The quality has generally not been good enough to even enlarge to a 5×7 size print. To solve this problem, Hipstamatic created the HipstaMart enabling users to print photos taken with the app. This feature is only available in the US at the moment.

Exercises For Short Term Memory : Short Term Memory

Exercises for short term memory improvement are fun and effective. Short term memory is the one that helps you remember a phone number for a few minutes while you are trying to find the phone. Or, when you’ve just met someone and you attempt to remember their name only a few minutes after being told. If you are always forgetting names of people you just met or can’t remember a phone number for a few minutes when you don’t have a pen to write it down, then you need to improve your short term memory.

Reading Comprehension

I always like to try and kill two birds with one stone when I’m doing something. So, one of the best short term memory exercises to me is trying to recall the details of an article I’ve just read. Pick up your favorite magazine and read an article. Don’t make any extra special effort at trying to remember what you are reading. After you’ve finished the article, put it down and using a pen and paper write down everything you can remember about the article. Again, the point isn’t to memorize the article deliberately, but rather to recall what you read. You’ll find that if you do this once a day that you will get better at it and your short term memory will improve.

Setting Game

Here’s a game that friends and I have played on several occasions. While eating at a restaurant, one of us will suddenly ask another to close their eyes and describe what they can recall about the surroundings. The key is that the person has had no time to prepare. They close their eyes and we them ask them questions such as, “What clothing are the waitresses wearing?” Or, “What color are the walls?” and so on. The person is made to recall as many details about the surroundings as possible.

The Game Of Concentration

Here is the old standard. You can use the actual Concentration board game, or you can use a deck of cards. Be sure there are 2 of each card. Spread them out face down. Each player turns over two cards. If they match, he or she gets a point. If they don’t match, the two cards are turned back over. Each player needs to remember where the cards are. Say you previously turned over a two of diamonds. On this round you turned over the other two of diamonds. Now you have to remember where you saw the matching card earlier and turn it over. If you can you get a point. And so the game goes. This is one of the best exercises for short term memory.

Conclusion

As was mentioned above, short term memory is like a muscle. If you don’t exercise it, it becomes weak. Work it out everyday and it will become stronger and stronger. The exercises for short term memory above are some of my favorites.
