How Short Term Memory Exercises Can Help You : Memory Exercises

Article by Gregory Frost

Memory loss is just one of the illnesses that commonly hit the folks once they reach their golden years. One of the examples will be Alzheimer’s disease that is pretty common among our grandparents. It might be shocking to you if you hear that your 35-year-old friend is suffering from short-term memory loss. How can a 35 year old have the memory capacity of a 53 year old? No, it is not impossible and short-term memory loss can happen to you. It can happen to anyone actually. Short-term memory loss can be a serious problem and not to mention you can cause quite a lot of confusion and frustration to the people around you. So, check out these sleek tips and see for yourself how short term memory exercises can help you.

These short-term memory exercises do not even cause you a penny. These cheap and easy techniques are good for use anytime you want to remember loads of information.

The link system is very ideal for use, especially when you are trying to remember information in the form of a list. For example, if you are given a grocery list, try to make use of the words in the list to form a ‘link system’ and link all the images together to form a mini film. Let’s say that you are given this list of items – cat, bread, flowers and shirt. How to remember all these items the quick and easy way? Simple imagine the image of a cat wearing a shirt with flower prints and eating bread. Continue linking more and more items together as the list of things grow. Tried and tested, this particular technique will allow you to remember all the things in the list in a jiffy.

The second memory exercise is to use the peg system. This is good to use when you are required to memorize a set of things in a particular order. To proceed with the peg system, simply associate a number with an image. So let’s say that you have a series of animal to remember in a particular order – cat, dog, dolphin and giraffe. Give a number to each of these animals i.e. 1 cat, 2 dogs, 3 dolphin and 4 giraffe. After which, use the link system mentioned previously to create some kind of mini film so as to allow you to memorize the arrangement with greater ease.

Alternatively, you can use the ever classical method of remembering large amount of information – Mind mapping. This technique has been used for eons of years to teach students to compress large chunks of information onto a piece of paper. This method is effective if you are planning to remember large amount of information at one go. However, some choose to think otherwise and are not in favor of using the mind mapping technique, as things can get messy as you keep of branching out new ideas/information from the key concept.

All these 3 memory techniques can provide you with great ease when it comes to remembering information. Some people panic when they are unable to remember what was being said to them just a few minutes ago. This does not mean that they are suffering from short-term memory loss. It is just that sometimes, the brain is not able to retrieve all information fast enough; hence we might miss out the certain details. Using the 3 methods suggested above will sure help you hold on to information longer. Go and try it today!

The best brain foods are foods that will help you greatly with mental functions including memory, concentration, moods and more. Here are some excellent choices for stronger and better functioning brain power.

1. Blueberries for Memory.

Blueberries are great for improving your long term memory making them one of the best brain foods. The antioxidants protect the brain from free radical damage. Prevention of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease is also associated with blueberry consumption. Try to go for ripe blueberries, but frozen blueberries are said be effective as well, locking in flavor and antioxidants.

2. Mixed Nuts for Calming Effects.

Mixed nuts contain arginine in high amounts which are responsible for providing that calming effect. Studies have shown that those without this amino acid are much more anxious, while those taking this amino acid were much more calmer and relaxed.

3. Peppermint Tea for Concentration.

Just the scent of peppermint tea can lead to much stronger focus, performance, and concentration. Many long distance drivers have experienced better focus while driving after having peppermint tea.

4. Spinach and Leafy Greens for Good Moods.

Leafy greens like spinach contain strong sources of B vitamins making them one of the best brain foods to consume. These are important for the production of serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine to occur in your body, all of which lead to excellent, positive states of mind. Those lacking certain B vitamins can experience nervousness and even depression.

5. Flax Seed for Increased and Sharpened Senses.

Flax contains ALA or alphalinoleic, which is a healthy fat that improves the pleasure senses of the brain.

All you need is a tablespoon a day of seeds which you can sprinkle on salads or other foods.

Aspiring Managers Must Have Brain Muscle To Burn : Brain Foods

Article by Geoffrey Norman

This article is a taster to give you some brain food for career progress. How many really talented, stand out Managers are out there? The real top of the pile ‘can do’ managers that never say no. How many would be managers who have the talent and the imagination to be a top of the pile Can Do manager? At the moment I bet there are hundreds, maybe thousands. I wonder. These are the managers that burn off the brain food that they take in.

Who has carried out a Benchmarking exercise? Not many I guess. I would ask why not, because it could open all sorts of gates for you and your company. Can you imagine the power contained in serious information being garnered about your main competitors and published by you in such away as to elevate you to being your Company’s expert in the field?

When was the last time you really thought about treating your team as individuals? Actually Its quite easy. Most managers look forward to having team meetings but find it difficult to appeal to different levels of competence within the team when in reality it is quite easy. You tell the same story in different words three different ways. Difficult? Complicated? No it’s actually very easy and quite powerful. You will know the adage of making a presentation I’m sure. Get out front, tell them what you are going to tell them. Tell them and then tell them what you have told them. Instead of saying it ‘off pat’ you alter it so as to appeal to three different levels of experience or expertise or intellect. By doing this and then publishing the technique you are writing an internal paper. How many people do you know that does that?

If anyone has carried out serious projects of their own volition and single handedly published and presented the results it could be that they are on their way. Our brain needs exercise it needs motivating to be at its best. And for many years it has been a knotty issue to actually write a programme that allows the imagination of a creative mind to actually apply all that talent to reality.

You need your brain Muscle to manage your work portfolio and the future. Often they are not the same thing. It has been said to me. “I would love to find the time to…” My response is always the same. “The best people are the busiest people”. Have you noticed that if you want anything done you give it to the busiest person? It always seems to be that person who takes time off for vacation. They are relaxed and confident. Almost certainly this will be a ‘can do’ manager.

The manual or eBook if you like covers the detail of techniques and issues that need to be addressed by the aspiring person to move on up the ladder. Covering issues like the real difference between managing people and managing things, describing the difference between leadership and management. Can you think of ways to manage people? I hope not because it is almost impossible. You can instruct them and have them work by prescription. I suppose that is managing them but poor practice don’t you think? Actually you probably already lead your people and call it management… What about things though, like atmosphere or computers or furniture. you sure can’t lead them can you they have to be managed, or lead people to manage them for you There you have it then. You lead people and manage things. There is a whole lot more to this and once the techniques are learned they should be published and you publish a paper in your name across the Company for your benefit.

If any one is going to seriously succeed in today’s competitive environment they better be prepared to stand out! Ideas on how to be creative when your nose is so close to day to day activity are understandably hard to come by so the manual applies a self reward motivation based on timescales and deadlines. It tells people how to be creatively busy. Giving that serious challenges that are unlikely to be undertaken involuntarily, require coaching, so what is suggested here is never mind how difficult, what is the reward? Your reward for yourself I mean. Frankly it does not matter so long as it is realistic. Include your partner too and let them share your reward for hard work.

There has probably never been a coaching manual that is totally unique, (apart from the first one). What business actually needs is the aspiring manager to put him or herself first, by being first and by standing out. Doing it for themselves and the company profits as well. There are very few books especially written for what a manager can get out of his work, they are far more, and easily, focused on the company. ‘By doing something in a particular way you achieve ‘this’ for the company’. To be different, productive and to really stand out you take all the training and coaching on offer and then add your own ingenuity and do it yourself.

How To Grow Your Managers Brain Muscle is brand new eBook for everyone that has aspirations for their career! It concentrates on you, not your Manager or the Company. Your career more than ever is in your hands and nobody is going to look after you as well as you. What you will learn from following the guidelines in this manual is how you place yourself in the strongest position to have your career enhanced. Not by shortcuts but by well founded and proven methods that will be easy for you to follow if you have the will.

You will succeed if you work to the principles in the manual, the quality of your inputs will be directly influenced by your drive and ambition. You have to do it and this tells you how. If you would like to read more follow the link below. The beauty of a work like this is that your Company may well pay for the download and apply the cost to their training budget.Go to http://www.my-bookworm.com and find out more of what you can do for yourself.

After retiring early from the high end of industry I spent a few years consulting. In that time I have visited industry all over the world and found very few businesses capable of developing a management teem of individuals. So my next few years will be devoted to that plus some other useful shareable experiences. I have worked a lot in areas of natural disaster and the treatment of families by the establishment has often been shabby, so I designed a defence against that too.

Vitamins : Vitamin B12 Deficiency Treatment

Article by Keaton Whitaker

Vitamin B12 deficiency symptoms

Vitamin B12 also known as cobalamin is essential in the body of human beings in various ways. It is known to build, maintain and enhance the functionality of DNA, RNA as well as red blood cells. This vitamin is also known to enhance the genes in the body. This means that vitamin B12 is important in the body in a way that it ensures proper functioning of the nervous system and at the same time sustains a healthy hematological profile.

Vitamin B12 deficiency is a disease that is caused by lack of this vitamin in the body. However, it is important to ensure that you keep this deficiency at bay for it is quite easy. This can be done with having the right diet and nutrition as required because vitamin B12 is available in the natural foods that you consume. Some of the foods that have vitamins B12 include meat, fish, dairy products, eggs, among others. To add on, if you consume multivitamin on regular basis, then you might not require vitamin B12 supplements. It is important that you ensure the body gets enough of B12 vitamins because the body does not store them easily.

Vitamin B12 deficiency symptoms are common in various kinds of people. The most known group is the vegetarian or vegans. These kinds of people completely avoid animal foods which are based known as the natural sources of vitamin B12. Children who adhere to strict vegetarian diets that do not include dairy products are susceptible to experience vitamin B12 deficiency symptoms. This is attested to the fact that dairy products such as milk have these vitamins that are essential in the functioning of the body and failure to have them can lead to anemia and other related diseases. Another group of people that is bound to experience vitamins B12 deficiency symptoms are the elderly. This is attributed to the fact that as human beings age, their bodies find it hard to absorb vitamin B12 from protein based foods. This means that they end up lacking these vitamins in the body which can lead to some health problems. Senior people are also prone to have vitamin B12 deficiency symptoms. This is because they might be faced with digestive problems, degraded stomach lining or some might have gone through gastro- intestinal surgery. In this case, these health problems might lead to vitamin B12 deficiency symptoms. You also need to know that people who consume alcohol or caffeine in large amounts might be faced with these symptoms. This is because alcohol and caffeine reduce the chance of the body absorbing this vitamin.Vitamin B12 deficiency symptoms

There are several symptoms that one might experience in the event of lack of vitamin B12 in the body. Some of these common symptoms include;

Digestive issues or stomach pain Fatigue and weakness Tingling in lower extremities or loss of sensation Dementia or Impaired cognitive function Irritability, depression or moodiness among others

Stomach pain is said to be a common symptom related to pernicious anemia. This is a condition where the immune system deters the process by which the human digestive system is supposed to absorb B12 vitamins. This might lead to premature death of RBC (red blood cells). At the same time, fatigue and weakness that you might experience are commonly accompanied by low levels of Vitamin B12 and are also caused by anemia.

The above information helps you to understand some of the vitamin B12 deficiency symptoms that you might experience due to lack of this vitamin. It is therefore important to ensure that you consume foods that are rich in this kind of vitamin. Nevertheless, if you are vegan or elderly, then vitamin B12 injections might just work best for you.

Vitamins : Vitamins – Do They Really Help?

Article by Bertil Hjert

The word “vitamin” is derived from two words, “vital” and “amine”. Vitamins are known to be really powerful organic compounds available in little concentrations in different food sources.

Vitamins are supported to function in certain specific ways and their role is vital for the body chemistry. These can be compared to electric sparks that help in ‘running’ human motors.

Vitamins cannot be produced or even synthesized by the organism. Of Course, there are certain exceptions. The absence of vitamins or absorption in lesser amounts than required can result in certain deficiencies and also diseases.

It is impossible to lead healthy life without providing the body with all the essential vitamins it requires. These vitamins are found in very little quantities in their natural state and that too in organic foods. Hence, it is absolutely necessary to obtain them foods or dietary supplements

Vitamins are categorized in tow different categories:

a) Fat soluble vitamins

b) Water soluble vitamins

Vitamins A, K, D and E are fat soluble whereas vitamin B complex and C are water soluble. Water soluble vitamins can be destroyed by heat. These cannot be dissolved easily in cooking water. Fat soluble vitamins are not lost by ordinary cooking methods.

These have the capacity to store themselves inside the body to certain extent, mainly inside the liver. Fat soluble vitamins are measured in unit whereas water soluble vitamins are measured in milligrams and micrograms according to the requirement.

Vitamins, when used therapeutically can be of great help in fighting disease and speedy recovery. Vitamins can be utilized in two different ways. They can either be used to correct deficiencies or treating disease in place of drugs.

According to several studies and researchers conducted, it has been proved that vitamins taken according to the dosage recommended can heal a wide range of common illnesses and health related complaints.

Vitamin therapy is known to have a great impact as compared to drug therapy. Drugs can be toxic and ends up providing side effects. Vitamins are non-toxic and absolutely safe to use.

Proper nutrients obtained via diet and certain important vitamin supplements facilitates in developing a strong immunity system and this results in less illness. People with decreased immunity levels can easily suffer from many diseases for a longer period of time.

Here is information on vitamin supplements that can do wonders to your immune system:

a) Vitamin C

This vitamin supplement is helpful in providing antioxidant to cells and also reduces the overall risk of developing cardiovascular disease and certain types of cancers.

b) Vitamin E

The vitamin supplement can actually minimize free radical damage and reduce the risk of developing diabetes and cancer.

c) Selenium

This supplement is helpful in protecting against prostate cancer and often referred to as anti-aging nutrient.

d) Vitamin A

Supporting mucous membranes and skin.

e) Omega-3 fatty acids

These are highly beneficial for the heart and the central nervous system.

f) Coenzyme Q10

This dietary supplement will facilitate energy generation for enhanced metabolism.

Brain Training – Why Bother?

Why bother with brain training? Why wouldn’t you bother with brain training? I believe that life is 90% mind set and as a result, if I could only train one thing it would be my brain. Our brain controls all our muscles, organs, it releases chemicals (that have long complex names) that control your feeling, it governs our perception of the world and there for our experience. Really life could even be 100% mindset, let’s stick to 90% for now.

As I have mentioned in my other articles on Life Coaching, Mind development and so on, I’m in life for a feeling, the feeling I enjoy the most is harmony. My definition of harmony is Feeling at peace with who I am being right now and therefore knowing that tomorrow will look after its self. When I am feeling harmony the whole world around benefits as a result. More than just my selfishness of wanting to feel good myself, at the same time want others to feel good and I have found that just like laughter, feelings spread. I would much rather spread harmony, happiness and love than fear anger and frustration.

I have trained my brain in many different ways over the years and I use this article as a medium to share my knowledge and experience to benefit you. I have completed memory courses, studied Christian philosophy, the yogi philosophy which both in their own ways convey ways, means and techniques to bring the mind body and sprit into harmony. And I say it in that order because I think unless your brain is geared in a way that is open and willing to learn and on top that able to process thoughts, feelings and emotions, you will be increasing limited to what you can experience on all levels.

I’d like to be able to say that I have the answer to solve everyones problems, “Here is my 14 step program to be perfect”.

For starters perfect in my opinion is an imagery state of being that humans have created. My approach rather than trying to “fix” people I teach people to be first content with what you have and to use what you have to the best of your ability, whilst being open to grow and learn.

I have spent many years of my life doing carpentry and there is no one tool that I can use to build and entire house. I can’t built an house with a hammer alone or just a saw I require several tools and even then what if someone wants a full brick home then my hammer and saw aren’t needed. When someone wants a full brick home I can choose to learn how to lay bricks or I can call in a brick layer. Either way I will be grateful that I can still do the doors and windows of the house and I will work with the brick layer to learn more about laying bricks because I like learning and increasing my skills. Which I now know is growth and half of the journey of being fulfilled.

One thing I have found that works for the majority of people that have done it for a period time… if you want to feel harmony, content, peaceful, fulfilled or the like give and grow in all area of your life.

A model for training the brain in any area that I have found endlessly useful is what I call the 4 Habit Model

Sub consciously incompetent – I don’t know that what I’m doing that isn’t working
Consciously incompetent – I know that what I’m doing isn’t working
Consciously competent – I now have change and concisely chose to do something that works for me
Sub consciously competent – I do what works for me without even thinking about it

I will give you an example of how I trained my brain with this tool. I decided that I wanted to give more smiles to people, because when people have smiled at me or made an extra effort to make me smile when I’m having a tough day, I really appreciate it, then in return I want to give that experience to others. Let’s apply this to the 4 Habit Model
Sub consciously incompetent – I didn’t know that wasn’t smiling as much as I could.
Consciously incompetent – I knew that I wasn’t smiling as much as I could.
Consciously competent – I now choose consciously to smile at people more often.
Sub consciously competent – I now smile almost all the time without even thinking about it.

I now have created a habit where I smile at almost every body. Does that work HELL YES!! I have increased my happiness because I smile more and smiles release those feel good chemicals. I help others increase their happiness by sharing a smile and then I feel even happier because I have helped brighten someone else’s day. Its good all round. Did this come naturally? No I don’t believe many things do. Let me explain. Most things even like smiling are a learnt habit, we simply forget when we learn it and when do we ever stop to think about it.

In my work as a Life Coach based in sunny Cronulla (Southern Sydney) I help people create the habits that work for them on a sub conscious level. I trust you have enjoyed and learnt something from this article. There are 4 more in this series or if you would like to find out more check out my website.

Eating to Become Smarter – Brain Food : Brain Foods

Article by Jeremy Wong

So, you want to become smarter? Read on.

This is the first of a series of 4 articles at http://www.becomingsmarter.com/ that will explain almost everything you will want to know about improving your IQ and becoming smarter, just by changing your diet – let’s begin.

Food is as important to the brain as it is to any other organ in your body – it has its own nutritional needs and like the other organs, it will not function to its maximum potential if you don’t give it enough of what it wants and needs.

In fact, eating the right foods can actually boost your IQ level, make you think sharper, smarter and even make you happier – and it has all been scientifically proven. Most people probably do not eat the right foods, and therefore, their brains are never at their optimal state, which is why you will probably stand out above the rest if you do it. And it is not that hard, really. I will tell you how you can go about eating properly to achieve this.

Some of the benefits from eating the right brain foods are: * Increased IQ * Improved mood * Emotional stability * Improved memory * Ability to think faster * Better ability to concentrate * Coordination and balance

As you can see, foods can be EXTREMELY beneficial for our brain and just imagine being able to do things you couldn’t do before, just by changing your diet!

Let’s move on first to how water can benefit the brain and make you smarter.

The three main components for this are water, nutritious food and oxygen. Let’s start with water.

Drinking to Become Smarter

Water makes up a huge percentage of our blood, which is the key carrier of nutrients and oxygen to our brain – and it’s no wonder drinking enough water has tremendous benefits on our brain. It is essential for concentration and mental alertness, so you should start drinking your water.

Most of us are chronically dehydrated, which means our bodies are constantly lacking water. All it takes is mild dehydration and the brain’s thinking abilities is reduced by a whopping 30%.

The solution?

Drink water consistently throughout the day. Pick up your glass of water once every hour.

Vitamins : Vitamins for health & Beauty

Article by Richard Corona

The Benefits of Vitamins for your body.

More Details at http://onlinehealthandbeauty.blogspot.com

Vitamins and minerals are mainly gained from the food, fruit and vegetables that we eat on a daily basis. In today’s modern world and unhealthy ways of eating most people do not get sufficient vitamins and for this reason there are a number of multivitamin supplements on the market. Like many other products there are dozens of different types of vitamin supplements and some are even targeted at the different sexes. Women need certain vitamins that may be useless for a mans body and for pregnant women different vitamins are needed altogether, so vitamin supplements for women will certainly be a lot different!

What types of vitamin supplements are available?

Vitamins come in chewable tables, capsules, liquids, syrups and even powders so that there is a type to suit any preference. Some people may argue that liquid vitamins are more readily absorbed by the body and although this may be true it does not suit all types of supplements. In some case a slow release vitamin or supplement may be p more pertinent to the relevant requirement such as for athletes or for people on the go that need energy all day long. Syrup vitamin and mineral supplements may be better for children to swallow that pills or capsules. Body builders in some cases prefer vitamin supplements in powdered form which can be taken with milk or water.

Liquid Vitamins Can Be More Effective

Liquid vitamins can be absorbed immediately into the blood stream so their effect will be far quicker than a pill or capsule that needs time to dissolve. Research has shown that the rate of liquid vitamins entering your blood stream is up to 95 % faster and so if you are looking for a quick boost or pick me up energy a supplement or vitamin in this form would be the best choice. The only downside here is that it is not as easy to measure the correct dosage as it would be for vitamins in pill or capsule form. Liquid vitamins and minerals may not always contain multi forms of different vitamin and mineral types either like in a capsule powder or pill supplement

Antioxidants and Vitamins

Vitamins types E, C and A are examples of superb antioxidants and they are commonly found in vitamin supplements. Grape seed extract, aloe Vera extracts, green teas and hundreds of other antioxidant vitamins and minerals are available on the market. A lot of these types of vitamins are not naturally produced in our bodies so it is certainly sensible taking them to keep disease and ill health at bay. Just remember your body will only take as much as it needs in the amount of vitamins and minerals and the rest will be secreted as waste products.

Brain Waves Entrainment – Is This For Real?

Have you ever heard of “Brain Waves Entrainment” technology? Sounds like something only a NASA scientist would know, doesn’t it? Fact or fiction? Let’s explore further.

Brain waves entrainment has its roots way back in 1839 when a German scientist by the name of Heinrich Wilhelm Dove discovered methods of influencing brainwaves.

Brainwaves are electrical signals emitted by your brain, and the 100 billion neurons that make up the nervous system. All of your senses communicate via these neurons – including your memories, your habits, and your emotions.

Each cell creates a tiny electrical charge when “activated” – and using specialized equipment, such as an EEG machine, we can detect this activity within the brain. This electrical activity occurs in “waves” – hence we can record the patterns of such activity as “brainwaves.”

Brain waves entrainment technology uses a highly specialized audio process to create sounds that assist in achieving advanced states of meditation. Each ear receives special sound frequencies and when your brain hears these frequencies, it tries to follow those frequencies.

It’s what happens when you listen to the sounds of waves, or gentle rainfall. The brain follows the soothing frequencies and influences your brainwave patterns, helping you feel more relaxed. The sounds change your state of mind.

These are some of the benefits that brain waves entrainment claims to produce:

Improved understanding and retention when learning new things.
Relief from stress and tension.
Boost in creativity and problem-solving skills.
Increased energy and motivation.
Better control of emotions.

So far, many brain waves entrainment products in the market seem to be working as claimed.

Indeed, there are lots of positive customer reviews reporting enhanced relaxation, heightened concentration, and overall peak performance.

As of this time brain waves entrainment is still a relatively unknown technology with not that many users. However with all the remarkable results experienced by its users now, it may very well gain wide acceptance in the near future.
