All too often we wait to the last minute to think about recording those special moments to share with family and friends when the vacation is over.
“Now where is that camera,” you may ask? Probably tucked away in a drawer somewhere.
Digital photography has become the method of choice for recording special events. Think about how you did it just a few years ago. You bought a couple of rolls of film (you do remember film, don’t you?). You shoot away-but it seems that you never have enough film.Then, when the event is just a memory, you cart the film off to the processor for development and printing.
Today all that hassle is behind us. In fact, it’s a challenge just finding a place that sells film. Wit a digital camera, and a good-sized memory card, you can take a couple hundred shots with some to spare.
The next step is to download your treasure trove of images onto your computer’s hard drive, and then print out the ones you want, put some up for others to enjoy on Picassa or other free websites.
Many folks are content with “snapshot” quality-but some often wonder how professional photographers get such extraordinary photographs.It is possible to get professional-looking shots-even with a basic digital camera, It is a matter of technique:
1. Read through the camera’s owner’s manual and learn what all of those dials and buttons really do.
2. Candid (photojournalistic) shots tell a better story than posed, “firing squad” lineups.
3. Be aware of disrupting, distracting backgrounds when composing the shot. Pay attention to what is behind your subjects-like traffic signs, trash and litter, ugly-looking vehicles or peculiar buildings.
In other words, learn your camera and pay attention to what you are photographing.
Learning how to create photos that compliment your artistic talent is really not a big deal. But you may want to consider some formal guidance.
