Short Term Memory : 7 Tips To Keep Your Memory in Tiptop Condition
Article by igor Griffiths
One of the reasons for keeping your brain healthy is to keep your memory in good condition. Our memory bank is a wonderful thing from which we retrieve lots of information and almost all our actions depend very much on this information. This information can be of two types:
• Short term which includes particular tasks that we do everyday.• Long term for example ability to drive a vehicle and likewise things.
Long term memory differs from short-term memory because it comes immediately whenever needed. On the other hand short term-memory needs to be used and prioritized otherwise it will be quickly discarded. If you wish to keep yourself efficient in your daily routine, you will have to keep your memory in tiptop condition. Here are some techniques for this:
1) Do not concentrate on the things that you do not want to store in your memory bank. Stay focused and attentive only towards the subject. The more focused you are on the information, the more the probability of keeping hold of it in your memory.2) While gathering information, make use of most suitable sense or senses. This is termed as “acuity in sensing or environment”. You should be fully aware of the details or color of a photo, or specific sound or odor of the involved things. Our senses gather information depending on the present circumstances. No doubt the visual sense collects most of the information that we store in memory but do not forget the role of the other senses. They are almost equally vital and helpful in remembering different situations, activities and information about anything.
3) When you think that you will forget the information that you have just collected, write it on a paper. This can be really helpful when gathering long and hectic information like class notes or personal interviews. Develop a habit of making notes and keep notes safe so that you don’t misplace them.
4) Take care of your diet and always remember that a balanced diet will boost your memory but sweet and oily foods are not good for your memory. If it is difficult for you to totally cut down the diets that are bad for memory, you better start reducing it in proportions. Reduce such diets gradually and one day you will be able to cut away such foods from your life. This will make your memory as well as physical health better. Drink as much water as you can as it is good for body as well as mind.
5) Give yourself sufficient rest and sleep as enough sleep never causes laziness. Over sleeping causes laziness which can affect your daily life. If you are not resting properly and not having enough sleep, you are not doing any good to yourself. Remember, enough sleep and rest is necessary as it keeps you full of energy, which is really required for efficient working and functioning of our all the body parts.
6) Stay away from tension and anxiety. Keep yourself calm and cool, breathe deeply to feel relaxed. You can not eliminate stress totally as it is an element of our demanding generation but try to keep stress low as much as you can. Stress destroys your memory!
7) Always stay creative energetic and positive, your memory needs to be stimulated by a circle of variety. Things that come in different forms, sizes, and colors can get your creative juices flowing. Think out of the box as much as possible and observe the world around you deeply. You are not a prisoner who is trapped within the walls of your living room. Just get out in the world and observe your surroundings. This will help you in improving your memory.
You can improve your memory a lot between babyhood and adolescence. Over time, memory starts to stop working! If you improve your memory in these prime years, you can become good thinkers in later years of your life. You can use things like cross word puzzles to improve your memory.
High Blood pressure is the biggest enemy of your memory. It also causes heart attacks and leads to strokes. You can enjoy best memory conditions, if you have maintained normal blood pressure.
