Using Brainwaves to Increase Brain Power : Brain Power

Article by Eric Thompson

Why Brainwave Activity is Important and How it Shapes Our Daily Lives

Virtually every activity we engage in throughout our daily lives has a unique brainwave pattern. Science has increased our understanding of how brainwaves influence our lives and how they help us increase brain power. In fact, through science we have discovered that we have the power not only to decide which state we want to be in, but also to effectively move into such a state. As such, understanding how brainwaves increase brain power can help us create greater results and more life fulfillment.

With that goal in mind, let’s look at what brainwaves are, how they impact our lives and how they increase brain power.

How Brainwaves Help to Increase Brain Power

Fluctuations of electrical energy in the brain emerge as distinct brainwave patterns. As neurons fire on and off, and as electrical impulses travel from neuron to neuron, rhythmic patterns become apparent. These rhythmic patterns can increase brain power when they are synchronized with one another, effectively amplifying communication within the brain. Imagine, if you will, one drummer playing by herself. Now imagine one thousand drummers all playing in unison. Get the idea? This is a perfect illustration of how synchronized brainwaves can increase brain power.

Because the rhythms of the brainwave spectrum range from the very slow to the very fast, each brain rhythm helps to increase brain power in unique ways, depending on the task at hand. These rhythmic patterns are typically measured in hertz, or the number of electrical oscillation-cycles per second. Depending on the task at hand, it may be necessary to either increase or decrease the brain’s electrical oscillations in order to increase brain power and facilitate optimal performance. Furthermore, regardless of whether such rhythms are sped up or slowed down, some degree of synchronization of such rhythms across fairly large areas of the brain is almost always necessary to increase brain power.

How Specific Brainwave Patterns Increase Brain Power

Cognitive neuroscience distinguishes between five basic categories of brainwave patterns, all of which can help increase brain power: gamma, beta, alpha, theta and delta.

* Gamma – 40 Hz – 99 Hz – Gamma can increase brain power by supporting higher levels of brain organization, which together facilitate a kind of binding action. Schizophrenic patients exhibit a noticeable lack of gamma-band activity. This brain rhythm, a vital component needed in any effort to increase brain power, supports an above-average integration of sensory information, enhanced self-awareness and clarity of mind. The fact that it is completely suppressed when anesthetic is administered supports the widespread neuroscientific belief that gamma activity deeply influences waking consciousness and perception. Its prominence in highly developed practitioners of Tibetan Buddhist compassion meditation clearly demonstrates its capacity to positively increase brain power.

* Beta – 13 Hz – 39 Hz – Beta activity is prominent in sensorimotor awareness when we are wide awake, alert and focused. In terms of what it means to increase brain power, beta enables us to rapidly analyze and assimilate new information. However, it cannot be sustained indefinitely. In fact, prolongation of beta can actually frustrate the effort to increase brain power because it leads to exhaustion, anxiety and tension. Short bursts of beta have been used for improving cognitive intelligence.

* Alpha – 8 Hz – 12 Hz – Alpha has been associated with accelerated learning, relaxed alertness, Zen meditation and the release of the mood-stabilizing neurotransmitter serotonin, making it a powerful ingredient to increase brain power. It is also the first stage in the sleep cycle, the initial onset of drowsiness.

* Theta – 4 Hz – 7.5 Hz – Theta is correlated with the hypnogogic state, dreaming sleep, enhanced creativity, vivid imagery and deep meditation. In addition, its deep involvement in long-term memory makes it essential to increase brain power.

* Delta -.5 Hz – 3.5 Hz – Delta emerges in deep dreamless sleep, when the body is most profoundly immersed in its healing and recuperative capacities. Its ability to increase brain power is also evidenced in its association with human empathy and extraordinarily deep meditation.

Dr. Jeffrey Thompson used modified electroencephalogram equipment to categorize three additional brainwave patterns. Though they aren’t generally recognized by cognitive neuroscience, they serve as a great window through which to see the higher reaches of what it means to increase brain power.

* Lambda – 200+ Hz – Lambda, a power-house fuel to increase brain power, may be involved in a phenomenon wherein certain Tibetan monks are able to walk barely clothed for days in the freezing, high-altitude Himalayas. They are difficult to measure, and are believed to be carried on the very slow moving epsilon waves, another powerful factor to increase brain power.

* Hyper-Gamma – 100 Hz – 199 Hz – An important element found to significantly increase brain power, hyper-gamma activity is very rare and correlated with ecstatic states of consciousness, exceptional integration of sensory information, deep feelings of love and joy, exceptional focus, and overcoming barriers to personal development.

* Epsilon (Sub-Delta) –

How Brain Wave Entrainment and Binaural Beats Can Improve Your Life

In our daily life, it is difficult to avoid stress as stressors are everywhere. The stressors can be found in your home, school, work location or in the middle of a field. Though it is expected to experience stress as it is part of our daily life, being under severe, chronic stress can result in physical illness. Stress can contribute to high-blood pressure thus resulting in cardiac problems. This is why people with cardiac problems are always advised to remain quiet and avoid stressful conditions.

Stress may also lead to Gastro-intestinal problems, palpitations, back ache, insomnia, poor immune system and even mental illness. Thanks to the latest advancements in technology, we can easily reduce this stress and live a normal and peaceful life. There are different ways of relieving stress; the most basic being deep-breathing exercises and natural relaxation. Some may use drugs that will assist them in getting the relaxation they need. Some may use cutting-edge machines to reduce or relieve stress. What many do not know is that with one simple device alone, we can easily be relieved of stress. This device is none other than our mp3 player, iPod or any music players.

With the latest binaural beats recordings available in stores today, we can easily be relieved of stress. Simply combining two frequencies into one sound will create these binaural beats that can stimulate brain wave entrainment. However, mixing two tones is not enough, what we need are two tones with a slightly different frequency. One tone may be slightly higher or slightly lower. They must be only “slightly” separated for if you make the two tones too separate from each other, then you will not achieve brain wave entrainment.

Achievement of brain wave entrainment may result in stress relief, sleep induction, improved learning, increased creativity, and the ability to accomplish things you did not even believe you could do. The effects of binaural beats are truly remarkable and impressive. You may find the tone by itself very tedious, but publishers of binaural beat recordings have created a combination of sounds that sound just like the rain, bells, waterfalls and gongs.

Still not interested? Well they have also mixed these beats with some extra sounds that you would not even notice such as subliminal positive affirmations. There are also software programmers who have made programs that you can download and install on your computer to create these binaural beats by yourself. Some even sell their recordings as an aid to meditation, relaxation and self hypnosis. You may also find some keychain-sized gadgets that produce these types of binaural beats. There are plenty from which to choose. The use of binaural beats is better than any drugs that you may take because there are no contraindications. There are no adverse effects and best of all; it is cheaper than buying drugs. Create your own binaural beats now, or buy some recordings and upload them to your music player and you will enjoy a truly relaxing day.

Tim is a perpetual student who has been practicing and studying brainwave entrainment for over 30 years. If you would like more detailed information about using brainwave entrainment to improve your life visit his website at: http://brainwavemeditation.blogspot.com/

Inositol – A Natural Brain Food

Who wouldn’t like to know and experiment with a natural brain food that could improve the memory power? That is what you will read in this article. If someone tells you that inositol has this power, you should know that it closely works with something else to offer the brain the natural food.

Once you ensure proper digestion of your food thereby providing adequate energy to your body, a major portion of offering natural brain food is complete. The balance is to provide required nutrients to properly nourish the brain which has billions of neurotransmitters.

You would have heard about lecithin. This is used in chocolate as an emulsifier to mix the fat with the water and ensure they are not separated. In the same way, the bile formed in our liver contains lecithin which helps to emulsify with fat so that they are absorbed by the small intestine. In this way, lecithin helps for providing energy and also for proper digestion.

It is not that the lecithin as such does this. The important component of lecithin known as choline is responsible for this job.

Choline is an essential nutrient. It is an organic compound. It is water soluble. Apart from the above digestion job, it has another important function.

Choline is a building block of acetylcholine. This chemical carries messages between nerve cells. It helps to transmit nerve impulses in the brain. The brain uses this chemical for controlling memory, heart rate, sweating etc.

You will be wondering why we discuss more of lecithin and choline instead of inositol. There is a reason. Now that you understand the importance of choline, you would like to ensure that they are adequately found in your body.

But the issue here is that the choline is not synthesized adequately by the body. Unless we find something else to boost the production of lecithin, quantity of choline cannot be increased in our body.

Inositol is the naturally occurring nutrient which closely works with choline. Also it effectively promotes the production of lecithin in the body. That is why it is considered a natural brain food.

Choline is sold separately as a nutritional supplement. If you smell fishy odour near someone, know that he takes choline supplement more than what is required. You should know that by increasing the choline content you are not going to increase your memory power. But if it is less, definitely it affects the brain power.

Cereals, kidney beans, orange and cantaloupes are good source of inositol, a natural brain food. While it is always better to go in for natural food, the problem is with reference to the quantum of intake and consequent nutrition content.

There are natural nutrition supplements that can solve your problem. But not all of them though they claim so. It is important that they are made out of GMP compliant facilities with high quality standards. I know for sure, a fantastic natural nutrition supplement product that has inositol derived from rice bran. Since this nutrition supplement has 70+ nutrition ingredients with appropriate measures including inositol, a natural brain food you are guaranteed an optimal intake. I have been using this product for a long time and found very promising.

You should visit my website to know more about such unique nutrition information for a healthy life.

Brain Entrainment: Your First Step To Make Millions

Almost everyone wants more money, but very few people have studied brain entrainment and why the brain is so important to achieving success and making money. Mastering your brain will make you rich beyond your wildest dreams.

Just like a fighter jet pilot needs to know how every button on his jet functions under every condition-you need to know how your brain works so you can have the operations manual for the most sophisticated apparatus in our entire universe. Master your brain, and the world becomes your oyster. Don’t, and you become a victim of circumstance.

I am going to show you the inside mental game you need to have, not the business actions you need to take. You already know things you should be doing to make more money, but you’re not doing them. It’s not a matter of your desires, it’s a matter of your conditioned mind and the power it has over you.

This is where my Neural Reconditioning Process comes into play. As you know, you have a conscious part of your brain, and you also have your non-conscious brain. The conscious part of your brain has some pretty neat functions like reasoning ability, memory, will and imagination, but most importantly, it is the only part of your brain that has the ability to accept or reject any idea you choose. Nobody can choose your thoughts for you. You have free will.

But your conscious mind is only responsible for about 17% of your brains power and ability.

Most people want to make more money, but they don’t understand that wanting money and setting goals happens at the conscious level, but achieving goals happen at a non-conscious level.

Your non-conscious brain is the power center. And it’s the part of ourselves that no one taught us anything about. Your non-conscious cerebral cortex region of your brain contains 83 % of your power and operates seven days a week, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. Achieving goals happens because the right information is impressed and loaded into the non-conscious part of your brain.

Consider this:

– Your non-conscious brain takes every command literally and at face value.

– Your non-conscious brain will give you just as fast, what you don’t want, as it will what you do want.

– It follows instruction perfectly.

– It does not have the ability to accept or reject an idea.

– It follows any command that has been impressed upon it over time.

– If your programming is good, so are the results.

– It can be your obedient servant when you understand how to command it. It never rests.

– The more an idea is impressed onto this part of your brain, the more it becomes fixed and the easier it is for neurotransmitters to send signals down the neural pathway automatically.

If you want to know what is currently programmed about money at the non-conscious level of your brain right now, just look at your current income and financial situation.

If aren’t happy with your current financial status, think about this magical formula:

Information + Experiences x Repetition = Beliefs

Beliefs + Experiences x Repetition = Habits

Your habits cause you to do and see only that which supports the internal beliefs and habits you currently have. Our internal neural pathways seek out patterns and information that are the same and match up in the physical world. The outside world matching our internal image is our comfort zone.

Your internal mental picture-your current conditioned mind-will not see or allow you to behave for too long, in ways that support your desired financial goals unless you change the inside belief and habit first.

The biggest problem people face is that everyone tries to alter behavior instead of altering the cause of behavior, which is our internal beliefs and “mental thermostat.”

If you do not alter your internal belief about money, and about your ability to earn more, your internal mental systems will not allow you to consistently see or act in accordance with what you want to achieve. They will force you to consistently achieve the same income year in and year out.

All this happens at lightning speeds through the nervous system and again, you are unaware of it. Days and months go by and nothing changes. It’s just more of the same and the vicious cycle continues.

It’s now time you take control of your brain’s ability and soar to the next level of financial success. In my next blog I will reveal how to use your real power centers to earn all the money you want!

Without exception, positive affirmation is the key to all advancements in meditate techniques. That includes Guided meditation, manifesting process and brain entertainment.

Aspiring Managers Must Have Brain Muscle To Burn : Brain Foods

Article by Geoffrey Norman

This article is a taster to give you some brain food for career progress. How many really talented, stand out Managers are out there? The real top of the pile ‘can do’ managers that never say no. How many would be managers who have the talent and the imagination to be a top of the pile Can Do manager? At the moment I bet there are hundreds, maybe thousands. I wonder. These are the managers that burn off the brain food that they take in.

Who has carried out a Benchmarking exercise? Not many I guess. I would ask why not, because it could open all sorts of gates for you and your company. Can you imagine the power contained in serious information being garnered about your main competitors and published by you in such away as to elevate you to being your Company’s expert in the field?

When was the last time you really thought about treating your team as individuals? Actually Its quite easy. Most managers look forward to having team meetings but find it difficult to appeal to different levels of competence within the team when in reality it is quite easy. You tell the same story in different words three different ways. Difficult? Complicated? No it’s actually very easy and quite powerful. You will know the adage of making a presentation I’m sure. Get out front, tell them what you are going to tell them. Tell them and then tell them what you have told them. Instead of saying it ‘off pat’ you alter it so as to appeal to three different levels of experience or expertise or intellect. By doing this and then publishing the technique you are writing an internal paper. How many people do you know that does that?

If anyone has carried out serious projects of their own volition and single handedly published and presented the results it could be that they are on their way. Our brain needs exercise it needs motivating to be at its best. And for many years it has been a knotty issue to actually write a programme that allows the imagination of a creative mind to actually apply all that talent to reality.

You need your brain Muscle to manage your work portfolio and the future. Often they are not the same thing. It has been said to me. “I would love to find the time to…” My response is always the same. “The best people are the busiest people”. Have you noticed that if you want anything done you give it to the busiest person? It always seems to be that person who takes time off for vacation. They are relaxed and confident. Almost certainly this will be a ‘can do’ manager.

The manual or eBook if you like covers the detail of techniques and issues that need to be addressed by the aspiring person to move on up the ladder. Covering issues like the real difference between managing people and managing things, describing the difference between leadership and management. Can you think of ways to manage people? I hope not because it is almost impossible. You can instruct them and have them work by prescription. I suppose that is managing them but poor practice don’t you think? Actually you probably already lead your people and call it management… What about things though, like atmosphere or computers or furniture. you sure can’t lead them can you they have to be managed, or lead people to manage them for you There you have it then. You lead people and manage things. There is a whole lot more to this and once the techniques are learned they should be published and you publish a paper in your name across the Company for your benefit.

If any one is going to seriously succeed in today’s competitive environment they better be prepared to stand out! Ideas on how to be creative when your nose is so close to day to day activity are understandably hard to come by so the manual applies a self reward motivation based on timescales and deadlines. It tells people how to be creatively busy. Giving that serious challenges that are unlikely to be undertaken involuntarily, require coaching, so what is suggested here is never mind how difficult, what is the reward? Your reward for yourself I mean. Frankly it does not matter so long as it is realistic. Include your partner too and let them share your reward for hard work.

There has probably never been a coaching manual that is totally unique, (apart from the first one). What business actually needs is the aspiring manager to put him or herself first, by being first and by standing out. Doing it for themselves and the company profits as well. There are very few books especially written for what a manager can get out of his work, they are far more, and easily, focused on the company. ‘By doing something in a particular way you achieve ‘this’ for the company’. To be different, productive and to really stand out you take all the training and coaching on offer and then add your own ingenuity and do it yourself.

How To Grow Your Managers Brain Muscle is brand new eBook for everyone that has aspirations for their career! It concentrates on you, not your Manager or the Company. Your career more than ever is in your hands and nobody is going to look after you as well as you. What you will learn from following the guidelines in this manual is how you place yourself in the strongest position to have your career enhanced. Not by shortcuts but by well founded and proven methods that will be easy for you to follow if you have the will.

You will succeed if you work to the principles in the manual, the quality of your inputs will be directly influenced by your drive and ambition. You have to do it and this tells you how. If you would like to read more follow the link below. The beauty of a work like this is that your Company may well pay for the download and apply the cost to their training budget.Go to http://www.my-bookworm.com and find out more of what you can do for yourself.

After retiring early from the high end of industry I spent a few years consulting. In that time I have visited industry all over the world and found very few businesses capable of developing a management teem of individuals. So my next few years will be devoted to that plus some other useful shareable experiences. I have worked a lot in areas of natural disaster and the treatment of families by the establishment has often been shabby, so I designed a defence against that too.

Brain Training – Why Bother?

Why bother with brain training? Why wouldn’t you bother with brain training? I believe that life is 90% mind set and as a result, if I could only train one thing it would be my brain. Our brain controls all our muscles, organs, it releases chemicals (that have long complex names) that control your feeling, it governs our perception of the world and there for our experience. Really life could even be 100% mindset, let’s stick to 90% for now.

As I have mentioned in my other articles on Life Coaching, Mind development and so on, I’m in life for a feeling, the feeling I enjoy the most is harmony. My definition of harmony is Feeling at peace with who I am being right now and therefore knowing that tomorrow will look after its self. When I am feeling harmony the whole world around benefits as a result. More than just my selfishness of wanting to feel good myself, at the same time want others to feel good and I have found that just like laughter, feelings spread. I would much rather spread harmony, happiness and love than fear anger and frustration.

I have trained my brain in many different ways over the years and I use this article as a medium to share my knowledge and experience to benefit you. I have completed memory courses, studied Christian philosophy, the yogi philosophy which both in their own ways convey ways, means and techniques to bring the mind body and sprit into harmony. And I say it in that order because I think unless your brain is geared in a way that is open and willing to learn and on top that able to process thoughts, feelings and emotions, you will be increasing limited to what you can experience on all levels.

I’d like to be able to say that I have the answer to solve everyones problems, “Here is my 14 step program to be perfect”.

For starters perfect in my opinion is an imagery state of being that humans have created. My approach rather than trying to “fix” people I teach people to be first content with what you have and to use what you have to the best of your ability, whilst being open to grow and learn.

I have spent many years of my life doing carpentry and there is no one tool that I can use to build and entire house. I can’t built an house with a hammer alone or just a saw I require several tools and even then what if someone wants a full brick home then my hammer and saw aren’t needed. When someone wants a full brick home I can choose to learn how to lay bricks or I can call in a brick layer. Either way I will be grateful that I can still do the doors and windows of the house and I will work with the brick layer to learn more about laying bricks because I like learning and increasing my skills. Which I now know is growth and half of the journey of being fulfilled.

One thing I have found that works for the majority of people that have done it for a period time… if you want to feel harmony, content, peaceful, fulfilled or the like give and grow in all area of your life.

A model for training the brain in any area that I have found endlessly useful is what I call the 4 Habit Model

Sub consciously incompetent – I don’t know that what I’m doing that isn’t working
Consciously incompetent – I know that what I’m doing isn’t working
Consciously competent – I now have change and concisely chose to do something that works for me
Sub consciously competent – I do what works for me without even thinking about it

I will give you an example of how I trained my brain with this tool. I decided that I wanted to give more smiles to people, because when people have smiled at me or made an extra effort to make me smile when I’m having a tough day, I really appreciate it, then in return I want to give that experience to others. Let’s apply this to the 4 Habit Model
Sub consciously incompetent – I didn’t know that wasn’t smiling as much as I could.
Consciously incompetent – I knew that I wasn’t smiling as much as I could.
Consciously competent – I now choose consciously to smile at people more often.
Sub consciously competent – I now smile almost all the time without even thinking about it.

I now have created a habit where I smile at almost every body. Does that work HELL YES!! I have increased my happiness because I smile more and smiles release those feel good chemicals. I help others increase their happiness by sharing a smile and then I feel even happier because I have helped brighten someone else’s day. Its good all round. Did this come naturally? No I don’t believe many things do. Let me explain. Most things even like smiling are a learnt habit, we simply forget when we learn it and when do we ever stop to think about it.

In my work as a Life Coach based in sunny Cronulla (Southern Sydney) I help people create the habits that work for them on a sub conscious level. I trust you have enjoyed and learnt something from this article. There are 4 more in this series or if you would like to find out more check out my website.

Food is as important to the brain as it is to any other organ in your body – it has its own nutritional needs and like the other organs, it will not function to its maximum potential if you don’t give it enough of what it wants and needs.

In fact, eating the right foods can actually boost your IQ level, make you think sharper, smarter and even make you happier – and it has all been scientifically proven. Most people probably do not eat the right foods, and therefore, their brains are never at their optimal state, which is why you will probably stand out above the rest if you do it. And it is not that hard, really. I will tell you how you can go about eating properly to achieve this.

Some of the benefits from eating the right brain foods are: * Increased IQ * Improved mood * Emotional stability * Improved memory * Ability to think faster * Better ability to concentrate * Coordination and balance

As you can see, foods can be EXTREMELY beneficial for our brain and just imagine being able to do things you couldn’t do before, just by changing your diet!

Let’s move on first to how water can benefit the brain and make you smarter.

The three main components for this are water, nutritious food and oxygen. Let’s start with water.

Drinking to Become Smarter

Water makes up a huge percentage of our blood, which is the key carrier of nutrients and oxygen to our brain – and it’s no wonder drinking enough water has tremendous benefits on our brain. It is essential for concentration and mental alertness, so you should start drinking your water.

Most of us are chronically dehydrated, which means our bodies are constantly lacking water. All it takes is mild dehydration and the brain’s thinking abilities is reduced by a whopping 30%.

The solution?

Drink water consistently throughout the day. Pick up your glass of water once every hour.

Brain Waves Entrainment – Is This For Real?

Have you ever heard of “Brain Waves Entrainment” technology? Sounds like something only a NASA scientist would know, doesn’t it? Fact or fiction? Let’s explore further.

Brain waves entrainment has its roots way back in 1839 when a German scientist by the name of Heinrich Wilhelm Dove discovered methods of influencing brainwaves.

Brainwaves are electrical signals emitted by your brain, and the 100 billion neurons that make up the nervous system. All of your senses communicate via these neurons – including your memories, your habits, and your emotions.

Each cell creates a tiny electrical charge when “activated” – and using specialized equipment, such as an EEG machine, we can detect this activity within the brain. This electrical activity occurs in “waves” – hence we can record the patterns of such activity as “brainwaves.”

Brain waves entrainment technology uses a highly specialized audio process to create sounds that assist in achieving advanced states of meditation. Each ear receives special sound frequencies and when your brain hears these frequencies, it tries to follow those frequencies.

It’s what happens when you listen to the sounds of waves, or gentle rainfall. The brain follows the soothing frequencies and influences your brainwave patterns, helping you feel more relaxed. The sounds change your state of mind.

These are some of the benefits that brain waves entrainment claims to produce:

Improved understanding and retention when learning new things.
Relief from stress and tension.
Boost in creativity and problem-solving skills.
Increased energy and motivation.
Better control of emotions.

So far, many brain waves entrainment products in the market seem to be working as claimed.

Indeed, there are lots of positive customer reviews reporting enhanced relaxation, heightened concentration, and overall peak performance.

As of this time brain waves entrainment is still a relatively unknown technology with not that many users. However with all the remarkable results experienced by its users now, it may very well gain wide acceptance in the near future.

This is How Your Brain Suffers Without Vitamins

One of the significant ways in which vitamin deficiency affects the body is by impacting the cognitive function of the brain. Dementia and impaired memory can stem from improper nutrition.

Vitamin deficiency is not common among older adults in the U.S. With access to virtually any food we want, this is natural. Yet, we do naturally decline as we grow older, and that has to do with nutrients. Most often these are a declining cognitive function (e.g. memory), impaired ability to fight infections (i.e. weakened immune system), and hip fractures and falls (due to weak bones).

Here I’d like to show you the latest findings from the very best studies about how vitamin and mineral supplements can impact memory. The following two articles in my series will then look at the immune system and weak bones angles.

Dementia, in older adults, is unfortunately common. It’s estimated that about 4.5 million people in the U.S. have it, with many others suffering a milder form of cognitive impairment. Dementia’s cause is unknown. One popular theory is that high blood levels of homocysteine (a dangerous amino acid) are linked not only with heart disease, but also with dementia. Since high blood levels of homocysteine are easily lowered by folic acid and vitamin B12, there are many high-quality studies out there that have proved it. Here are some:

— 1992: 76 patients in their 70s. None had impaired memory. Vitamin B6, at 20 mg, improved their ability to store information.

— 2000: 1,430 patients over 65.

They suffered dementia. Vitamin B12 improved language function, thus their ability to communicate improved.

— 2003: 149 patients over 65. They had dementia or cognitive impairment. Folic acid (2 mg) and vitamin B12 (one mg) lowered homocysteine levels in the blood by 30%.

— 2005: 209 patients, average age 65. Found the same result as above with lower doses of the vitamins, as well as three mg of vitamin B6.

— 2006: 276 patients over 65. All three vitamins once again lowered homocysteine levels considerably.

Though these studies are great, they didn’t fully prove that the B-vitamins could improve people’s memory. They simply reduce levels of a harmful substance that deteriorates the memory. So it can be said that these supplements preserve memory. We’re about to learn more about this though, as in the next little while we will see the results of up to seven years of supplements on tens of thousands of people. Stay tuned.
