Nutrients to Promote Brain Health

Keep your brain healthy and optimized at peak levels throughout your whole life by focusing on the A’s, B’s and D’s – three key vitamins identified in healthy brain functioning. The human brain is the most important organ that requires many nutrients to work properly. The brain only weighs about three pounds and consumes 25% of the blood pumped with every heart beat and 20% of the body’s energy.

Vitamin D

Reuter’s Health has linked low vitamin D levels to depression. In their landmark study researching 531 women and 423 men over the ages of 65, they discovered that almost 75% of the depressed group were vitamin D deficient.

Another study involving 3000 men between 40-79 years of age found that those with higher vitamin D levels were better performers at memory and processing tests. Researchers believe that vitamin D can protect the brain’s signal pathways.

You can find vitamin D from the sun’s rays, many type of fish and fortified in milk products.

Folic Acid

Folic acid AKA folate is vitamin B9 that can slow cognitive decline and preserve memory in the elderly. In a study conducted by Nurse’s Health, participants who supplemented their diets with folic acid had the memory capabilities of nurses that were 5 1/2 years younger and cognition that was 2 years younger. Folic acid deficiency has also been linked to depression.

Folic acid can be found in beans, spinach, asparagus and fortified foods such as breads and cereals.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is a nutrient that helps with our ability to learn and can assist with the development of the nervous system in embryos. A study from the Salk Institute for Biological Studies shows that vitamin A can improve the brain cells that are associated with memory and learning.

Vitamin A-rich foods include carrots, liver, spinach, eggs and fortified dairy products.

In addition to these nutrients, make sure to fuel your brain with complex carbohydrates as well as Omega-3 fatty acids that protect brain cells. If you’re not getting enough of these essential nutrients for the brain, then supplement it with a daily multi-vitamin/mineral to ensure optimal brain performance.

Brain Vitamins : Brain Vitamins! Best Vitamins for Brain Health and Function

Brain vitamins are more important than you think. Most of us are aware that vitamins and nutrients are important for our bodies, but when is the last time you considered what vitamins your brain needs to function at its highest level possible? Many vitamins have a proven effect on brain function, and neglecting to address this issue may limit our brain’s potential, and even increase our risk of cognitive decline as we age.

There are many vitamins for overall brain health, but we are going to look at some of the most powerful vitamins today.

Antioxidants are a great place to start our journey. Antioxidants help our bodies (and brains) by protecting our cells from damage caused by free radicals that build up as we age. Our brains are over 50% fat tissue, which makes our brain even more prone to damage from free radicals than the rest of our bodies. Consuming high amounts of antioxidants can help slow the oxidation process down and reduce our risk for negative mental side effects associated with aging.

Two of the best antioxidant brain vitamins are Vitamin E and Vitamin C. A study from the University of Copenhagen found a link to Vitamin C and the development of spatial memory in Guinea Pigs (chosen because they rely on outside sources of Vitamin C and can’t make it in their own bodies- just like humans). Without enough Vitamin C, their memory skills were lacking. So not only is Vitamin C a powerful antioxidant, it also has other proven effects on the brain.

Now that you’re probably convinced, let’s look at some foods that contain high amounts of these vitamins:

Vitamin C can be found in many fruits and vegetables. Some of the largest quantities of Vitamin C can be found in Oranges, Strawberries, Hot Chili Peppers, Yellow and Red Bell peppers, and dark leafy greens like Kale.

Vitamin E can be obtained from a wide variety of foods, including various nuts and seeds, as well as vegetable oils, spinach, and broccoli.

That covers antioxidants, which are a great place to start when it comes to vitamins for brain health. But we have one more powerful vitamin that should not be left off the list- Folic Acid. Also known as Folate and vitamin B9, Folic Acid has been shown to reduce the risk of stroke, memory loss, and other cognitive decline as we age, as reported by CNN in 2002.

You might be thinking “I’m too young to start worrying about memory loss, this doesn’t effect me.” Did you know that we actually start losing some memory capabilities in our mid 20’s? Memory loss doesn’t just effect seniors, and it’s never too soon to start preventing the loss of mental capabilities.

Folic acid can be found in leafy green vegetables, citrus fruits, beans, and whole grains. It also can be found in fortified foods such as bread, pasta, and white rice.

Those are the “big 3” brain vitamins. If you only took 3 vitamins for brain health, Vitamin C, E, and B9 are a great place to start.

www.vitaminsshoulditake.com Brain Vitamins Isn’t it great to have our brain working on its optimum? Well it’s certainly nice to have something like that. Today, a lot of research and studies have been devoted to such cause. Scientist and experts continuously try to help the brain avoid degradation or from establishing symptoms such as dementia and Alzheimer’s in which both are common nowadays. The best approach is to take in health promotion to either taking in the best food or activities. One intake that you should give consideration is the so called brain vitamins. A brain vitamin is simply packed nutrients in a form of vitamin capsules to take in daily or as it’s prescribed. Most doctors and specialist recommends a conservative approach to this. It depends on what you’re need is. If you are aiming to improving non-verbal IQ, memory or perhaps regular functioning, then higher amounts of vitamins may be needed. It is best noted that some vitamins can be toxic especially when taken in large amounts. This is why a lot of doctors recommend a good dosage. But basically, it is important to have a good knowledge on such vitamins for you to make wiser decisions on choosing one. It is recommended to take vitamins coming from natural food sources. They are always safer and at most the best option. Always aim for high quality vitamins if you are in doubt of newly created vitamins or ones that are sold on black markets. The Connection Between Omega 3 and Brain Health : Brain Foods

Article by Elizabeth Ruby

Have you heard the sayings “eat your fish, it’s brain food” and “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” only to shrug them off as old wives tales that have no merit? You may be surprised to discover that both of these statements actually have scientific backing and are vital for our overall good health.

Fish is the main source of the essential fatty acids known as omega 3. Brain health is dependent on DHA, one of the fatty acids. The brain needs adequate levels of DHA, docosahexaenoic acid, to rebuild and maintain cells. When you eat fish or consume fish oil supplements you are providing the necessary building blocks to support optimum brain activity. This omega 3 and brain health go hand in hand

Apples have been named as one of the top 25 most nutritious foods along with blueberries, broccoli, dark leafy greens and of course oily fish, just to name a few. Apples are rich in fiber, fruit flavonoids, and antioxidants.

Eating this nutritious fruit can help decrease cholesterol levels and has been known to improve defenses against cancer and other illnesses. They contain quercetin, an antioxidant that may reduce your risk of lung cancer.

One Penn State research study discovered that people who ate an apple fifteen minutes before lunch consumed about 200 calories less during that meal than when they didn’t have their fruit snack ahead of time, therefore being able to maintain a healthier weight.

An apple is easy to just grab, and as long as it has been thoroughly washed, it is all ready to eat. Fish isn’t so simple, but it is possible to obtain the necessary dosage of DHA with the convenience of fish oil dietary supplements in capsule form. So whether you are just taking omega 3 capsules along with your daily multi-vitamins, or sitting down to a complete salmon dinner, you can be assured you are helping your brain with its normal day-to-day function.

One other area of study that has been done in regard to omega 3 and brain health is that of dementia. A very encouraging report published in the Archives of Neurology stated that those over age 65 who ate fish twice a week slowed their rate of cognitive decline by 13 percent. In contrast, studies have also shown that degenerative brain conditions like Alzheimer’s disease are more prevalent in people who have a lower blood plasma level of DHA.

Many people find it hard to get sufficient amounts of omega 3 and brain benefits by consuming enough seafood alone. They find it easier to take DHA dietary supplements in capsule form. The dosage is documented on the packaging so they are assured of getting enough of this vital nutrient.

Food For Your Brain Health

In order to have the freedom to live out your plans and dreams for the future, you need to stay strong, healthy, and empowered. Critical to this is the health of your brain.

Some areas where you can make changes to optimize your brain are with food and supplements, physical exercise, sleep, our emotional state, brain stimulation, and the importance of living on purpose.

In this article I’m focusing on the major difference food can make on your brain health.

You want to do your best to choose food that is premium fuel for your body. You are what you eat. Many people don’t realize that all of your cells renew themselves every five months. Your diet is an important part of having those cells grow healthfully.

The best diet for the support of the brain is one that is low in calories. Calorie restriction is associated with longevity. Your diet should be high in the Omega 3 fatty acids in fish, fish oil, walnuts, and avocados. Antioxidants are critical for your brain health.

High quality antioxidant foods and vegetables according to the US Department of Agriculture are prunes, raisins, blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, strawberries, spinach raspberries, brussel sprouts, plums, broccoli, beets, oranges, red grapes, red bell peppers, cherries and kiwis. All of these very colorful fruits and vegetables are rich in antioxidants.

It’s best to cook your vegetables as little as possible in as little water as possible to avoid loss of nutrients.

Choose foods that are closest to nature. The less processed food and extra chemicals that you put into your body the better off you are going to be. Choose whole grains and avoid sugars and white flour.

It’s also important to monitor your blood pressure. Your blood feeds your brain nutrients. Your goal is to keep your arteries clear and flowing so that the flow of nutrients to the brain is as good as possible. Reducing your high blood pressure to normal can improve cognitive function and it can slow Alzheimer’s progression substantially. Choose foods that are low in salt to help with this problem.

Diabetes is also a risk factor. The Type II Diabetes the kind associated with being overweight increases the risk of Alzheimer’s. It’s probably by increasing the inflammation or from aging of the arteries, and it’s also because too much of the insulin hormone in the brain can stimulate beta amyloid build up. In fact some people are now calling Alzheimer’s Type III Diabetes.

More important than anything else is plenty of water! Your brain is primarily water. If you are starting to feel thirsty, you are already dehydrated and your brain is not functioning at an optimal level.

If you are not following these guidelines at this time, choose just one area where you can make a change to something healthier. If you continue to make small changes, over time you will find that your brain health and energy are reaching new heights!

Vitamins are essential for proper body function. If you do not
get enough of the essential vitamins you need, several
problems can occur, from bone loss to headaches. So, the
question you need to ask yourself is: Are you getting enough of
the vitamins you need?
You need lots of vitamins, and all are going to strengthen your
body in various ways. Let’s take a look at vitamin C, for
example.

Vitamin C is a very important vitamin. Vitamin C is an essential
vitamin to get enough of if you want to keep your immune
system functioning and for keeping your connective tissue
healthy. Vitamin C is a great vitamin to get enough of if you
want to slow down the aging process. If you get enough vitamin
C in your diet every day, it will help to keep away the wrinkles
by keeping the connective tissue under the skin strong and
healthy. Not to mention that vitamin C is a strong anti-oxidant,
and is often used in large doses to treat patients with cancer
and other chronic diseases.

Something to consider with vitamin C is that our bodies don’t
store it very well and we can’t make it, so we must get all of our
vitamin C from our diets. Eating a healthy diet chock full of fresh
fruits and vegetables, we will get plenty of vitamin C. However,
not everyone eats fruits and vegetables in the quantities
needed to get enough vitamin C. Many can’t get their children to
eat enough fruits and vegetables. So what is an alternative
solution?

While nothing can completely replace the value of eating fresh
fruits and vegetables in your daily diet, there are things you can
do to fill in the gaps. Everyone needs 5 to 9 daily servings of
fresh fruits and vegetables for the nutrients they contain and for
general health, but if you take a look at your eating habits you
will likely find that 5-9 servings is probably close to double what
you and your children are actually getting.

The following is a list of some simple things you can do to
implement more vitamins into your diet without significant
changes to your daily routine:

1. Instead of buying juices, try buying whole fruits and a
juicer and making your own. It does not take much longer, and
can provide you with many more vitamins than the prepackaged
variety. The closer you get your food to nature the better it is
going to be fore you.

2. Have fresh veggies on hand and available for snacking.
Cut cucumber, have baby carrots, and any of your other favorite
vegetables, already washed and ready to go so that the next
time you reach for a snack. It is as easy to grab a slice of fruit,
or a piece of vegetable as it is to grab junk food.

3. Make your own salsa, ketchup, etc., or buy the fresh
made variety. While it is convenient to purchase processed
salsa that does not require refrigeration until after it is opened,
many of the nutritional values are lost. So, when you are in the
mood for salsa, slice up your favorite salsa ingredients and eat
fresh salsa.

4. Try all natural supplementation of the vitamins and
minerals your body is missing. A good choice for this option
would be Zija. It is an all natural health beverage that is
conveniently packaged in a small can that can easily fit in your
purse or bag. It is made from the Moringa oleifera tree, which is
an excellent source of many vitamins, including vitamin A, B, C, D
and much more. It is also a great source for calcium, protein,
and potassium. Zija does not have a bunch of artificial
ingredients; rather, it is made from the parts of the tree that are
the most nutritious, They are dried, ground up, then water is
added to them and they are packaged to make a quick and easy
drink.

5. Have one day a week where you abstain from the junk,
and load up on the good stuff. One day is not too much to ask,
it is easy to do, and can taste great. While nutrition and health
may be reasons you eat certain fruits and vegetables, there are
many other reasons why you choose the ones you do, such as
crunchiness, juiciness, or bright colors. Whatever the reason, try
to eat them often; most are quick to prepare and easy to eat.

6. Try all of the above, this is a great way to meet all of
your nutritional needs with little change to your already
established eating habits. You can make small adjustments like
fresh juices and salsas, etc., instead of packaged ones, and
then fill in the gaps of your diet with the well-rounded and
extremely healthy drink Zija.

Brain Injury And Your Overall Health : Brain Training

Article by Pedro Teixeira

The brain is an incredibly complex and sensitive organ in our bodies. It allows many bodily functions to be controlled without conscious involvement. And it provides for many ways to think, reason and respond to our environment. However brain injury can become a very serious problem. So let’s discuss this further.

Normally the brain is well protected from injury. It is encased in a hard shell called the skull and cushioned from injury through a fluid which cradles and supports the brain. However as stated earlier, brain injury can create a whole bunch of problems.

The most common type of brain injury occurs when the skull is damaged by a blow to the head. In many cases there is no long term problem. However depending on the amount of blunt force, no problems may result.

However in many cases, a blunt force trauma can have significant impact. This type of problem occurs when the skull is struck. The force of the impact may damage the skull and or cause some type of breakage. If the fluid which surrounds the brain is allowed to flow unchecked, it can have serious results.

Or if the brain suffers a blunt force problem, it generally responds by swelling in size. This can create even more problems since it is not a good situation for the brain to swell in a constrained area. If this does occur it creates excess pressure on the brain and may result in even more damage to the brain.

The good news is that there are many recent techniques to minimize or alleviate the impacts from a blunt force. This can include draining of brain fluid if it is noted that the brain has begun to swell. This can avoid many of the problems associated with swelling of the brain following an injury. Also exercising your brain with brain training could help alleviate some of the damage on your cognitive abilities.

Emergency techniques have been established to help medical personnel to determine if that brain has been affected by a blunt force. This is vitally important as it can avoid letting a minor problem turn into a major one by not properly addressing the situation.

And there are many types of products available which can help to further protect the brain from injury. One of the best ways to do so is through the use of a helmet. It has been shown that this can significantly reduce the incidence of brain damage. So prevention is usually best way to reduce this very serious problem. Brain training can also help improve the different cognitive skills that could have been impacted.

The brain is an incredibly complex and sensitive organ in our bodies. Brain training is must as it allows many bodily functions to be controlled without conscious involvement. And it provides for many ways to think, reason and respond to our environment. However brain injury can become a very serious problem.

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) assists the body in the production of collagen, a basic component of connective tissues. Collagen is an important structural element in blood vessel walls, gums, and bones, making it particularly important to those recovering from wounds and surgery.

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and is needed for the production of collagen, the “glue” that strengthens the bodies muscles and blood vessels. Vitamin C is also important in wound healing as a natural antihistamine, fighting viruses, and aids in the formation of liver bile. Finally, it helps to detoxify alcohol and other substances.

Vitamin C is one of the more powerful and well-known antioxidants. Just as exposing a cut apple to air causes it to quickly turn brown, cells of the body can also suffer damage when exposed to oxygen, a process known as oxidation. Oxidation causes aging of the skin as well as all other organs and tissues of the body. Vitamin C, as a free-radical fighter, helps ward off wrinkles and many illnesses linked to oxidation, including cataracts, arthritis, heart disease, and cancer.

Sources of vitamin C
Vitamin C is mostly present in fresh fruits, mainly citrus fruits, e.g. orange, lemon, tomato, pineapple, papaya, etc; fresh vegetables e.g. cabbage, cauliflower, lettuce, spinach, green peppers, beans etc.; properly sprouted pulses, germinating grams, etc. potato and seeds are poor sources but rich during germination. Amla is one of the richest sources of vitamin C both in the fresh as well as in the dry condition. Guavas are another cheap but rich source of this vitamin.

Deficiency Symptoms of Vitamin C

Ascorbic acid literally means “acid that prevents scurvy”. Vitamin C deficiencies were first discovered on ships that were sailing to the “new world”. Often ships had barrels full of limes so that passengers could have lime juice every day to prevent scurvy. Symptoms of scurvy are rare, but milder symptoms can happen when intake is low. These include fatigue, weakness, bruising easily and depression. More serious symptoms are loose teeth and sore joints.

Benefits of Vitamin C:

There are plenty of good reasons to add vitamin C to your diet and skin care program. Benefits of vitamin C on the outside of your body. Vitamin C products for skin care can provide greater protection against harmful UV rays, increase the production of collagen and decrease the look of fine lines and pigmentation that are the result of aging. This can actually be easier said than done, since the properties of vitamin C make it difficult to use in a skin care product. Use a variety of vitamin C derivatives in skin care products that will bring about the same benefits as natural vitamin C with less of the ingredient required for results.

It keeps a check on the presence of cholesterol in the body. Thus, it actually helps to prevent gall bladder disease and even heart problems.
Over consumption of Vitamin C is not exactly harmful because being a water-soluble vitamin, extra amount gets excreted in urine. However, too much consumption can lead to problems of stones in later stages.

Short-term Health Insurance

There can be times in your life when you need a temporary health insurance option to help you and your family. It may be while you are in between jobs or while you wait for another group policy to begin, but if you no longer have access to COBRA coverage or if you need a less expensive option then a short-term health insurance policy might be a good option for you.

When you get health insurance quotes online, short-term health insurance is one type of insurance you can get a quote for. They are usually inexpensive since they cover a very limited period of time and the likelihood of having significant claims occur during this period is low. That means that the insurance company does not take on a great amount of risk when insuring you.
The Downside of Short-Term Health Insurance

Much like catastrophic insurance policies, short-term health insurance policies will not likely count as creditable coverage under HIPAA. This can have a major impact on your future health insurance purchases and can mean that your pre-existing conditions can be excluded for a limited period of time from group policy coverage. It also means that when you have a short-term health insurance policy, you may not qualify for coverage under HIPAA. These are important considerations for individuals opting for short-term coverage instead of COBRA.

Speaking of pre-existing conditions, short-term health insurance policies generally exclude them from coverage. In addition, short-term plans often don’t provide any benefits for preventative care or routine physicals.

The need for short-term health insurance policies is limited. They are not a good fit for every family and you should research a plan in full after getting online health insurance quotes in order to make sure it is a good fit for you and your family.

Short Term Memory

Brain Training For Complete Health

Habits are what guide many people through their day-to-day routines and brain training is something you can use to help you stay mentally focused and sharp.

Your brain is a very complicated organ. There are key elements that anyone can do to help the brain remain in the best mental state possible.

When you are performing the same activities on a daily basis, your brain can become lazy. Each day you may feel as though you are on autopilot and you might even forget some of the things you did throughout the day. Your brain might need some stimuli to stay in the best shape possible and this is something that you can easily do each day at home.

When you are beginning a brain fitness regimen you might find that it can be hard to focus and keep your attention. This is a barrier that you will need to overcome in order to introduce your brain to new activities. Once you overcome this barrier you will be able to begin to start improving brain health and this can help you to begin to improve things like memory, and even motor control.

When you are looking for the right exercise it can be important to tie in things that are also familiar. This can help you to begin training your brain with things that are not familiar and also familiar. This is a key to focus and this can help you ease into the transition of learning new things.

You also need a commitment to the exercises that you perform. If you only complete your exercises occasionally, you would not see the results that you would if you do them on a regular basis.

Setting a time each week to focus and concentrate on improving brain function can be a key to learning.

As you begin to see the right changes occurring in your brain function, you can reward yourself for these new skills that you have improved upon. Positive reinforcement can keep you on the right path and help you to stay focused to do more in the future. Your daily life may be improved significantly and you will be able to remember much more then ever before.

Brain training can help many people with improvement in the way their brain functions. It is never too early too start!

Brain Health And Your Body And Mental Health : Memory Exercises

Article by Pedro Teixeira

Your brain is one of the most important tools you have for daily use. If you think of your brain with this type of importance you will also realize how important it can be to nurture your brain. Many people exercise their body, but neglect their brain. Taking some time to focus on the importance of the brain can help you understand how important brain fitness can be.

Your mind and brain health is something that you want to keep in tact for as long as possible. You have an array of memories that you have likely created over your life and you want to make sure that these memories are never compromised with any memory loss. Brain research suggests that brain training can help you improve your memory and stay sharp much longer then you might have expected.

The first thing you want to do is to look for a memory exercise. This is something that you can do to help you stay sharp and focused and could also help you with your mental health. Many people take their memory for granted and do not react until they notice a problem. You do not want to wait until there is a problem and the sooner you begin to use brain training the better it will be for you later in life.

Brain plasticity allows for learning throughout life and this may be different from other things you have heard in the past. You can begin to improve your brain function at any point in life. You should never think it is too late to do something about memory problems because you are too old. When you start any exercises it can benefit you at any age.

A mental exercise can help you to improve your cognitive skills, your memory and your entire brain health. Even someone that has suffered with a brain injury can benefit from mental training. This is something that you should speak with your doctor about and you will find that they will often recommend this type of training to get you back to a place where you are content with your current brain function.

You should never resolve to living with memory loss and there may be some great things that you can do to increase cognitive skills and help you to go on and lead a more purposeful life and have a better mental health. Memory loss does not have to rob you of your existence and the right brain training can help you to get back on track.

If you think of your brain with this type of importance you will also realize how important it can be to nurture your brain. Many people exercise their body, but neglect their brain health.

The health of your brain will ultimately effect the fulfillment of your life. A brain that doesn’t function and fire the way it should can have unknowing results on your feelings and daily mood. This is why it is so important to learn more about brain health, brain plasticity and how both can dramatically improve your standard of life.
What is brain plasticity?
The ability of your brain to change dramatically through learning and experience makes the human brain so very unique. Plasticity refers to this fact that your brain is constantly changing for better or for worse as you age and live out your daily cycle.
And this is not just a figure of speech, the actual gray matter in your brain alters physically as you learn more and experience events throughout your life. Besides the gray matter changing form, your brain also uses neural pathways and connections that give you feeling and shapes the way you feel at any given moment. This is also constantly changing with time as well.
Anytime you learn something new, you are creating new pathways in your brain that will hardwire itself in their so you can recall it and perform the same task again without having to relearn how to do it.
These pathways also go away with time when you don’t have to use them for an extended period of time. If you have ever forgotten someone’s name, this is a good example of that neural pathway being broken.
Brain health can be optimized with certain mind training and brain rehabilitation exercises and programs. Using advanced and scientific programs like CognaFit will help keep your brain healthy as you age and you may also even increase cognitive abilities with consistent training.
New brain research is telling us that brain plasticity is even more remarkable than we originally thought. Our brain functions are tightly tied in with our emotions and feelings and we can train them to stay positive and healthy even as we get older. We can even use brain training programs on people that have known illnesses like autism, bipolar disorder and depression to better their lives and eliminate the illnesses for good.
So if you want to maintain great brain health or even improve your own memory and learning abilities, take advantage of your own brain plasticity and use scientifically proven programs to train your brain for the better. Remain sharp and witty through brain exercises and training.

Food and Vitamins for Brain Health : Brain Foods

Article by Carole Gayle

Is your brain not as sharp as it once was? Do you have trouble remember things, or retaining information? Or maybe the problem is more in line with Attention Deficit Disorder, or related childhood brain issues. Brain health is something that should be taken seriously. While you don’t often think about brain health when everything is working smoothly, it certainly gets your attention when it is not. Here are some food supplements for the brain that are known to be useful in improving brain function.

The first is your basic multi-vitamin and mineral complex. Moderate doses of vitamins and minerals are excellent brain insurance. In several studies, children who received multivitamin and minerals supplements were observed to have an increase in IQ scorings.

Antioxidant supplements also help clear the brain by the prevention of brain rusting. This is because antioxidants are to remove the rust that prevents the oxidation of our brain mass. Antioxidants are, therefore, primary for optimal brain health. Examples of antioxidants are vitamins C, vitamin E, grape seed extracts, alpha-lipoic acid and coenzyme Q10. Foods rich in antioxidants include raw spinach, garlic, cranberries, cooked cabbage, plums, raisins, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries.

Omega-3 essential fatty acids, found in abundance in cold-water fish, flax seed and walnuts are known for building bridges of communication in neurons that help improve mood and functioning of the center of the brain. Children who do not get enough omega-3 fatty acids during their early development periods may have a lower IQ level in the latter stages of their lives. Omega-3 fatty acids found in cold sea fishes like tuna, sardines, herring, mackerel, salmon, oysters, nuts, and linseed oil. The vegetarian form of essential fatty acids like nuts and seeds are particularly recommended for pregnant women and nursing mothers to increase brain development of fetuses and infants.

Finally, ginkgo biloba is said to ward off memory loss associated with aging. The substance is known to destroy free radicals and increases blood circulation and supply of oxygen to the brain.

If there is a need to correct or deal with brain issues, feeding the brain the nutrients it needs can be substantial in effect. Incorporating any or all of these brain foods and brain food supplements will go a long way in protecting the brain from damage and giving it the nutrients it needs to work smoothly and without hitch. Diet is usually the best way to get these nutrients but if not, supplementation is always the next best step.
