Brain Training with Music

Music’s an important part of life, essential, even, for many. While styles and genres are often downplayed by detractors, all music has common and unique traits alike and its uses and applications are nearly limitless. Nothing quite lifts a bad mood like hearing a favorite song on the radio, for example; or hearing a certain tune may call back memories long forgotten of an important event or just the last time you heard the song played, summoning waves of nostalgia. Music’s not all about entertainment though, and the areas it has been put to use in are as varied as the countless types of music themselves, ranging from the obvious to the shocking.

War often inspires music, Jimi Hendrix’s catalog serving as a prime example, but few give pause to consider the role music has played in the eternal struggle of man against man. Ancient armies used to use horns and drums to signal each other across the field of battle long before walkie talkies or telegrams provided simple and easy communication and coordination of troops. Even today you can see the remnants of the war drums of eras past in the cadence calls and drumming that guides marching rhythms in today’s military displays and parade marches.

A lesser known unconventional use of music, though, lies in Music Ear Training, a method to improve linguistics skills and the ability to comprehend and learn language simply through music. Scientists are discovering that listening to a large variety of different lyrical music styles stimulates the centers of the brain responsible for language comprehension and acquisition. From infancy, childhood nursery rhymes and lullabies have an impact on forming the proper neural pathways in the brain that lead to the ability to pick up language later in life; the more exposure to music, the easier it generally becomes for the child to begin learning, and thus speaking, their native language. This phenomenon is not limited only to young children, but is active throughout life and music ear training retains its effectiveness well into adulthood. As a relatively new discovery, this training lacks dedicated resources, many of which are small or incomplete. How a Subliminal MP3 Can Change Your Life : Subliminal MP3

Article by Gregory Frost

We all know what an Mp3 is. It is the music file format that revolutionised the world of digital music and it can be seen everywhere. It is also the most favoured format for audiophiles all over the world and for good reason. For its tiny size (more or less 3 megabytes for a song), it can pack in a high quality CD track. This means that a normal CD of 1 to 15 tracks will take up the space of no more than 100 megabytes, which in today’s digital measurements, is really a paltry cousin to the terabyte towers now found in computer stores all over the world.

Even science and medicine has looked to the MP3 format file and has wondered about the possibilities. Personal development industry grabbed a hold of the technology and decided to leverage on its diminutive size, the explosion of MP3 digital audio players, their growing popularity over the traditional medium of CD and of course, the increased technological focus on MP3 formats. Subliminal messages were available through CD’s for a long time, and they were the flagship of the personal development industry for many reasons.

One, it was consumer friendly and widely available on the internet, meaning that anyone can order them and start on a journey of self improvement almost immediately. Secondly, the medium was getting cheaper and cheaper to produce, with new technologies that saw larger capacities, better quality audio and even unique storage capabilities. Thirdly, it was cheap, so that no large costs would be passed down to the consumer at all. Making something as useful as this as affordable as it was; was a masterstroke in itself.

Now, everyday people not only had access to technology that could change their lives, but technology that was readily affordable. The numbers kept growing, year by year. But it was inevitable that the CD saw its day slowly slip away and producers of subliminal CD’s saw this and looked ahead to more digital versions of their audio software. We all know the power of subliminal messages embedded in auditory stimulants like music, with the ability to change behaviours, mindsets, get rid of personality flaws, give courage and ambition and even help people to kick bad habits like smoking and drugs.

But now, it is even easier to receive the benefits. You no longer have to wait for the CD to be delivered to your doorstep, now you can just pay through secure means and just download the tracks directly into your IPOD or any other brand named audio player. You can take them anywhere and you do not have to worry about scratches on the CD or even loss of the entire medium. If anything happens, you will always have the digital backup in the computer and all you need to do is to transfer again. A subliminal MP3 can change your life because it brings all the benefits of the CD without any of its hassle.

So what are you waiting for? With such convenience at hand, there is no reason for you to not give it a try and change your life for the better.

The biggest hindrance to concentrate is distraction. Distractions can be labeled in two ways: external or internal.

External distractions are actual physical distractions that occur in your environment. You can easily reduce or eliminate these. For example, if you can’t concentrate as a consequence of noise, you could leave a noisy room or turn off the radio.

Internal distractions are psychological distractions. Daydreams, anxiety and indecision can hinder your ability to focus. Learning how to quiet your inner voice and putting those thoughts aside until a much more ideal time will help lower internal distractions.

Lifestyle Affects Mind Electrical power

Taking care of one self is key to increasing your mind power. Adequate sleep and an appropriate diet are critical to help you being mentally alert. Concentration is best when the body and mind are well rested; therefore, morning is the best time for activities that want mental focus. A diet rich with fruits, vegetables, omega-3 and vitamin B also increases mind electrical power.

Emotional health is just as important as physical health and wellbeing. Being under stress lowers mental performance. Having a positive approach grows mental performance. If you find that you will be stressed, taking a break (quite possibly for as short since ten minutes) assists you to restore concentration and random access memory.

Exercise Improves Mind Electricity

Exercise, both physical and mental, is the best method to improve your imagination power.

Physically, aerobic exercise brings oxygen to the brain, which helps to increase memory. Examples of aerobic exercise are running, swimming, and participating in cardio workouts. But physical exercise will not need to be aerobic to increase mind power. Yoga and meditation will maximize intellectual alertness.

Keeping the mind active is one of the best ways to enhance mind power. Suggested activities for mental exercise are word questions, math or logic matches, reading and writing. Learning new things, having stimulating conversation and additionally being with positive people also increase mind power.

Photographic Memory : How to Memorize Music

Article by Graham Howard

Part of the memory problem is being afraid of forgetting the piece and the humiliation that would follow.

Repeat…Repeat…Repeat

This is the most common method of memorizing music. The piece is repeated again and again so that eventually it is almost impossible to forget any part of it. The piece can be broken down in to smaller sections, with each section being mastered before moving on to the next one.

But you will find this method of remembering music very insecure and should be considered only as a fallback to some other memory method.

– – Hand Position – –

You might prefer to remember what your hands look like while playing. You may find this easier to do, but if the fingers slip, your memory has gone.

– – Analysis – –

The best method is analysis.

You should study the whole piece. What key does it start in? Where does it change key or change tempo? If there is a second theme, how does it compare with the first theme? Where are the repeat marks, pauses, or other notation? What dynamics are present and where?

You need to learn the circle of fifths and common cadences. These are essential, as are scales and arpeggios.

Memory by analysis should start on a small scale. When this has been mastered, larger sections can be tackled.

* * Memorizing without the piano * *

If you have an above average familiarity with notes and a good visual memory, you might be able to memorize away from the keyboard by looking at the score.

You should start by playing the piece away from the piano by tapping your fingers on a table. See if you can hear each note and chord as you play them. Can you remember which fingers to put down? If you come across any uncertain areas, you will need to go back to the piano and work on it.

– – Slow Practicing – –

Make sure you play the entire piece slowly.

If you play with a slow speed, this disrupts finger memories because your hands do not move as they are trained to and your ear does not hear quickly enough what it is anxious to hear. Your brain does all the work.

– – Photographic Memory – –

Only a small percentage of the population has a photographic memory. If you have this, you will surely know about it.- – Final Solution – –

You can also try memorizing large sections at a time.

Now work on the places where your memory breaks down. You should start just before the problem and play just beyond it so that the difficult phrase can easily be remembered and inserted into the flow of things.

There is a free piano course I have created for you below. It will give you a taster for piano lessons without you having to spend any money. I have given as much information, tips and techniques as possible.

Increase Your Brain Power By Listening To Music : Brain Power

Article by Erin Matlock

Most people like to relax and pass the time doing activities such as watching TV, listening to music, gardening, traveling, and reading. Of all these activities, probably reading and listening to music are the two that stimulate your brain the most. Reading naturally stimulates your mind since it exposes you to new thoughts and ideas. Listening to music also stimulates your mind and can be a great way to boost your brain power.

Watching television is a passive exercise. A study performed by the JPB Creative Laboratory showed that while watching TV, you often let things slip by and don’t think about what you’re seeing. On the other hand, research has shown that listening to music while exercising not only improves your mood, but it may also boost cognitive levels.

An example of this cognitive increase was seen in higher scores among cardiac rehabilitation patients on verbal fluency tests. The study looked at the effects of music combined with short-term exercise and found that people diagnosed with coronary artery disease had enhanced brainpower after listening to music while exercising

Aside from listening to music while exercising, you also can increase your brainpower by listening to music as a form of sound therapy. This type of therapy is also known as brain wave entrainment or sound healing. The tones and type of music are specifically designed to guide the listener into the deep mental state of Theta, where brain waves oscillate between four and seven cycles per second. In this state, the brain is self-focused. Recently, several lab experiments using sound therapy have indicated that this type of therapy enhanced memory, improved the immune system and brain functionality, resulted in faster recovery from pain, and improved sleep patterns.

According to another experiment conducted in California, subjects who sat through a music session experienced enhanced verbal fluency at a rate more than double that of people who were just left in a quiet room.

Listening to music enhances your well-being both physically and mentally. Explore the research on this subject, and you’ll soon learn that music offers many benefits. So find your own musical favorites and start listening. You’ll be doing yourself a big favor.

Kaminski Auctions will present an exceptional array of fine European and American art, antiques, and jewelry in their annual Thanksgiving Auction on November 30th, including many items from the estate of artist Alexander Brook. The second day of the auction, December 1st, will feature the personal collection of Marla Maples and Tiffany Trump (with a portion of proceeds to benefit charity), in addition to a selection of jewelry and fine wines.

Typically Kaminskis largest sale of year, this years auction will again include a number of outstanding pieces among the top lots of the auction. One of the most highly anticipated items in the sale is Alexander Brooks famous Brothel Bed. Residing and working in New York and Savannah, Brook was one of the most popular figurative painters of the 1930s. His work has been exhibited in many major museums, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City, and the Cleveland Art Museum.

The bed features nine oil painted panels by the artist, all depicting nude and partially undressed women. The turned wood spindles of the head and footboard frame the panels and give the bed a light bamboo like structure. Valued at $ 60,000 to $ 70,000, the bed comes from the artists own private collection. Although it has never before been exhibited in public, it once appeared in a Victorias Secret photo shoot, and was photographed by Guild Museum Artist Hans Namuth.

The auction will also offer a pair of Egyptian Revival bronzes produced by Tiffany and Company, and signed “Picault.” Each about 20 inches high, they model the forms of a traditional male figure and the famous Apis bull. As a pair, these rare sculptures are valued at between $ 20,000 and $ 40,000.

In addition to these impressive sculptural pieces, the auction will also offer a number of notable paintings and two dimensional works. The most highly valued of these is John George Brown’s painting, “Girl on Seesaw.” Born in Britain, Brown originally immigrated to New York as a glass maker, but instead made his name as an artist. His skill and the popularity of the subject matter made him one of the most successful artists of his time. He is most famous for his portraits of street children, but produced other images of childhood as well. This example of his work is expected to sell for between $ 20,000 and $ 40,000.

Other important works in the sale include a painting by American artist Ralph Albert Blakelock, an Audubon print, as well as works from Dutch artist Koekkoek, Max Friedrich Rabes, Wilhelm Von Gegerfelt, and Louis Jaurer. There is winter scene landscape by the revered North Shore artist Frederick J. Mulhaupt that has everything one looks for in an American Impressionist painting.

The sale will also present a number of important decorative items, highlighted by an American silver dish, and a Mid 19th century Austrian 14K gold snuff box. The dish is signed John Waite New York and valued at $ 10,000 to $ 15,000, while the snuff box is decorated with four cabochon sapphires and a diamond monogram over enamel and worth between $ 6,500 and $ 7,500.

A Samuel Field McIntyre Salem chest will also appear in the sale. The chest features rope turned columns and decorative carvings of eagles, shields and cornucopia baskets on the posts. This chest is expected to fetch between $ 7,000 and $ 12,000. In addition to this chest, Kaminski Auctions is also pleased to offer a 20th century Queen Anne style flat top highboy from the estate of Joan Bennett Kennedy.

Many collectors will also be interested in a 1969 Fender Stratocaster guitar. The guitar retains all original parts, and the neck has never been removed. It is expected to reach between $ 10,000 and $ 20,000.

A selection of fine jewelry will also accompany these exciting collections and appear throughout the sale. Day 1 will feature a 18K white gold diamond and Ceylon sapphire ring, in addition to the larger collection of 18K gold and diamond jewelry that will appear in the second day.

Day 2 of the Thanksgiving auction will also feature a variety of personal items from the collection of Marla Maples and Tiffany Trump. Ms. Maples has pledged to donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of her items to The Brain Cancer Research Institute, to support the development of treatments for brain cancer.

Among the items offered are a number of fine glass pieces, including two Lalique vases, one a Nymphale vase in sapphire blue, and the other embellished with figures of nude women. The two are valued at around $ 2,000 each. A bronze Erte sculpture also stands out in the collection. Marked C1987 Chalk & Vermillion and Sevenarts 111/375 the piece stands eighteen inches high on a marble vase and is valued at $ 2,000 to $ 3,000.

The Marla Maples collection also includes a bottle of 1945 Chateau Lafite Rothschild, given to Marla and Donald Trump at their wedding. This unique bottle of wine is valued at between $ 3,000 and $ 5,000.
