Discount Vitamins

When local nutrition stores have discount sales, they normally have a limited supply of the vitamins that have on sale.  Once they have been sold, that is normally the end of that particular vitamin being offered at discount price for the duration of the sale.  Other times, the time frame of the sale may make it hard to get to the store.  If you don’t know about the sale in advance, it may conflict with your schedule and you miss out on it.

Many stores that are going to be having discount vitamin sales will run coupons and fliers in local papers and magazines.  The Sunday paper for instance, is always full of magazines and coupons, which is normally where they advertise the sales.  Even though there may be a lot of advertisements found in the Sunday paper, it is normally where you find the best deals.  If you spend some time going through the advertisements, you can normally find some great sales, including sales at your local nutrition store.

Another great way to get discount vitamins is buy them in bulk.  A lot of people underestimate buying bulk, as they don’t understand just how great this can be.  If you buy bulk at your local nutrition store, you are more than likely going to get a great deal.  Even though your local store may be offering discount vitamins through a sale, buying bulk is sometimes cheaper than even their best sales.

The reason for this, is the fact that bulk purchases off the best possible prices on discount vitamins.  If you are looking to take certain vitamins on a frequent or daily basis, buying in bulk may be the best decision.  If you buy vitamin A or vitamin C in bulk, you can get it at a great price with enough of a supply to last you for a long time.  When buying in bulk, you’ll get a great price and enough of the vitamin to keep you from going back to the store for quite a while.

If you buy in bulk, you should make sure that you can use the vitamins before the expiration date expires.  There are many vitamins out there that have expiration dates, after which they must be discarded if they aren’t used.  Even though buying in bulk is always the preferred way to buy your discount vitamins, you should make sure that you can use the vitamins before they expire.  You should never feel pressured or even tempted to buy in bulk unless you know for sure you can use all of the vitamins.

With many options available to you, discount vitamins are the ideal purchase to get the vitamins and supplements you need.  Millions of us all across the United States take vitamins on a daily basis, making them a sound investment.  Even though you can buy vitamins on sale at your local nutrition store or online, buying bulk is always the best way to make your purchase.  You can get a great price on your vitamins – and have more than enough to keep you going for a long time.

There has been the common notion that Vitamin E is good for the skin. What about the case of acne scars? Will Vitamin E be effective in diminishing acne scars? Of course there are other options for acne scars treatment such as chemical peels, Fraxel laser and dermabrasion. They seem to be proven methods of removing acne scars. But then again, one important matter should be put into consideration – the cost. Vitamin E ointment just may be a solution to acne scars if you want something affordable and economical. But is it really effective? Researchers in Dermatologic Surgery did an investigation on the efficacy of applying Vitamin E on acne scars.

The verdict: application of this vitamin to healing wounds can actually hinder the skin’s repair process, therefore, topical Vitamin E for acne scars treatment should be eliminated from your list. Fifteen subjects were involved in the study, each of them having undergone skin cancer removal surgery. The subjects were given two types of ointment: Ointment A whose components are that of common moisturizing agents, and ointment B which has the same ingredients but only with added Vitamin E. During weeks one, four and twelve of the study, the patients and the doctors observed the effects of the ointments on the scars.

The results of this study showed that for 90% of the subjects, topical Vitamin E either wasn’t effective or actually worsened the appearance of the scars. Thirty-three percent of the subjects also acquired contact dermatitis from the application containing the vitamin. According to the result of this study and contrary to held beliefs, topical Vitamin E is discouraged in the treatment of acne scars. While the topical form of this vitamin was proven to be ineffective in diminishing acne scars, consumption of Vitamin E in the diet, however, can actually have positive results for the skin. Ingesting this vitamin nutrient may aid in the skin’s healing process, such as that of acne scars.

This has been proven in a study reported by the International Journal of Experimental Pathology. This study investigated and found that wound healing is slowed down if the body has a deficiency of antioxidants such as Vitamin E. It’s efficacy in acne scars healing is proven especially if adequate amounts of this fat soluble nutrient is consumed. It means a daily RDA intake of 30 International Units (IU). For adults, intake level of this vitamin could go up to as far as 1,500 IU daily. Sunflower seed kernels, sunflower oil wheat, almonds, hazel nut and germ oil are rich sources of this vitamin.

Vitamin E supplements should also be considered to augment the intake of this nutrient. Vitamin E is usually sold in a form of alpha-tocopherol that preserves its antioxidant ability. The synthetic sort of this vitamin sold in pharmacies are labeled “D, L”, and the natural form “D”. Its synthetic form, however, is only half as effective as its natural form. To better state it, healing of acne scars can be hastened by both Vitamin E creams and a Vitamin E-rich diet.

Vitamin B2 (also known as riboflavin) is part of the B-complex group of vitamins (a group of vitamins that were initially thought to be the singular vitamin B due to their similar roles in the body). It was discovered in the 1930s when Otto Warburg successfully isolated riboflavin as the result of detailed research into the B-complex vitamins. Riboflavin’s main function is to help your body’s cells break down food for energy but there is a lot more to it than this. In this article I am going to help you learn a little more about this vitamin by providing you with five fun vitamin B2 facts.

1) IT WORKS WITH THE OTHER B-COMPLEX VITAMINS TO GIVE YOU ENERGY:- Although vitamin B2 is required by your body to break down carbohydrates, fats and protein into a form that it can use, it does not work alone. All the B-complex vitamins combine so that the reaction that breaks these macronutrients down into energy can take place. Therefore, whilst it is important that you consume adequate levels of B2 you also need to make sure that you are getting your other B-complex vitamins as well.

2) IT PROMOTES HEALTHY SKIN, VISION AND BLOOD:- Every time your body uses oxygen free radicals are produced as a by-product. These free radicals can damage many structures in the body including blood vessel linings and cell membranes. To protect against these free radicals your body can use molecules called antioxidants. Riboflavin helps your body recycle the antioxidant glutathione which protects the eyes, the skin and the blood vessels from this oxygen based damage. Therefore, vitamin B2 promotes healthy skin, vision and blood by protecting these vital structures.

3) IT CAN BE FOUND IN MULTIPLE FOODS:- This vitamin can be sourced from a variety of foods. In fact you probably consume more vitamin B2 than you realise. Milk is one of the best sources of riboflavin but other dairy products such as cheese and yoghurt also contain good levels. Therefore, if you don’t think you are consuming enough of this vitamin try adding some dairy to your diet.

4) IT IS A WATER SOLUBLE VITAMIN:- Vitamin B2 is a water soluble vitamin which (as you probably guessed from the name) means that it dissolves in water. Your body cannot store water soluble vitamins so you need to make sure that you get the recommended amount of riboflavin each day which is 1.3mg for men and 1.1.mg for women. Water soluble vitamins are also very sensitive to light meaning that you should try and store foods containing B2 in a dark place and keep them away from intense lighting.

5) NOT GETTING ENOUGH CAN CAUSE SKIN PROBLEMS:- Riboflavin deficiency is very rare in developed western countries. However, if your diet is seriously lacking in vitamin B2 it can lead to your skin becoming greasy, scaly or dry. This can ultimately lead to painful cracks and sores developing on your skin.

I hope this article has given you a greater understanding of vitamin B2 and the role it plays in your body It allows your body’s cells to extract energy from the food you eat and also plays a key role in protecting them from oxidative damage. Therefore, it is essential for healthy living.

Key Vitamins For Brain And Memory Support: B-12 And Folic Acid

A recent Oxford study has shown that B-12, B-6 and folic acid have positive effects for those in need of memory support. Another new study suggests that B-12 could reduce the risk of cognitive disabilities often associated with age. When the body has normal levels of B-12, the negative effects of a compound called homocysteine can be counteracted. Homocysteine at moderately high levels has long been associated with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

In particular, low levels of vitamin B-12 can be of concern for vegetarians:

Vegetarians who do not supplement their diet with vitamin B12 tend to have elevated homocysteine levels. Elevated homocysteine is associated with early mortality, heart disease, stroke, dementia, and birth defects. At least 14 studies have measured the homocysteine levels in vegetarians. Normal B12 levels are from 200 to 900 pg/ml. Figure 1 shows that vegans had the lowest B12 levels, followed by lacto-ovo-vegetarians, and then non-vegetarians.

Supplementation may be necessary for strict vegetarians. Microlingual tablets hold great promise for high levels of absorption and ease of use for children, the elderly, bariatric patients and other specialized populations.

A Closer Look at Folic Acid

Dutch scientists have reported that increasing folic acid intake improved the memory of older adults. Their study indicates that seniors may benefit from fairly large amounts of folic acid, such as the amount in 2.5 pounds of strawberries.

Lead researcher Jane Durga of Wageningen University announced at a meeting of the Alzheimer’s Association that folic acid protected brain function. On memory texts, folic acid supplement users scored 5.5 years younger than those who did not take supplements.

Vitamin B12 is the largest and most complex of all the vitamins. Vitamin B12 is commonly found in milk, cheese, shellfish, meat and eggs and various other dairy products. Vitamin B12 is known to help maintain the health of the body’s nerve and red blood cells, as well as being essential for making DNA. Vitamin B12 is a popular ingredient in anti-aging creams, since a lack of Vitamin B12 in the body contributes to the aging of skin. Vitamin B12 is available in injection form, as a stand-alone topical product and as an ingredient in many anti-aging creams.

Deficiency

Vitamin B12 deficiency is most commonly the result of inadequate absorption. Deficiency symptoms and disorders associated with low levels of Vitamin B12 are pernicious anemia weakness, personality changes, mood changes, and abnormal sensations like tingling in the arms and legs. Deficiency is more commonly linked to the inability to absorb the vitamin due to lack of intrinsic factor than to insufficient dietary intake. Since the body stores vitamin B12, symptoms of deficiency can take up to four to five years of poor dietary intake or lack of intrinsic factor production to appear. Additional symptoms related to deficiency are poor appetite, tiredness, nervousness, neuritis, degeneration of spinal cord, depression, and lack of balance.

It is important to remember that you should not use the information on this website for diagnosing or treating a health problem or disease, or prescribing any medication. This article provides a general overview. Consult with your health professional for specific personal advice in this area.

Body

Body stores of vitamin B12 can be managed by a daily oral supplement of B12. Vitamin B12 needs an intrinsic factor in order to be fully absorbed by the body. It also helps strengthen the capillaries in the body. As any excess vitamin B12 is naturally excreted by the body, it is not thought to be a dangerous supplement to take, although of course you should mention taking it to your doctor. Vitamin B12 is very efficiently conserved by the body, with 65-75% re-absorption rates common.

Anemia

Anemia is the first sign that the body is not getting an adequate supply of Vitamin B12. Anemia can result from a variety of medical problems, including deficiencies of vitamin B12, vitamin B6, folate and iron. Anemia may also be due to folic acid deficiency, folic acid also being necessary for DNA synthesis.

Supplements

Vitamin B12 is available in a number of different forms, such as injections, topical creams and supplements to be taken orally. There are vitamin supplements, which do not contain animal products for those who prefer to have a vegetarian diet. Adults are advised to limit their folic acid intake (through supplements and fortification) to 1 mg per day. Large intakes of vitamin B12 from food or supplements have caused no toxicity in healthy people. The principal form of vitamin B12 used in supplements is cyanocobalamin.

Healthy Diet and Lifestyle

A healthy diet and balanced lifestyle will add immeasurably to one’s general feeling of well-being and enjoyment of life. It is something to strive for continuously.

Vitamin C will improve hormonal balance, improve iron intake, improves the immune system, it also helps females with ovulation and helps to improve the mobility of the male sperm. Because most fertility problems start with a hormonal imbalance, Vitamin C is crucial in fertility. If you can, make sure to get one thousand milligrams of vitamin C per day. If you cannot get this from fruit, vegetables or berries, you will have to take a vitamin c supplement. Of course, you do not want to take more than one thousand milligrams a day, as this will have adverse effects on fertility. Vitamin E is also important to improving fertility. Vitamin E will help men to have a better sperm production and prevent mutations in the sperm as well. For women, vitamin E is for supporting a healthy endocrine system. You can take a vitamin E supplement or you can find it in vegetables with dark leaves and liver. For both men and women, vitamin A is used by the body to absorb proteins, nutrients, minerals and other vitamins. Vitamin A is crucial because without it, the other vitamins will not be as effective. To get your daily dose of vitamin A, you can find it in carrots or cod liver oil. You can also take a supplement that has vitamin A in it if you are not getting enough. However, once a woman is pregnant, she will want to carefully monitor her vitamin A intake, as too much could hurt the fetus. Last, but not least, are the B vitamins. These are most important after a couple has conceived, but they are beneficial to preconception as well.

These days, it is common knowledge that ingesting vitamins is an easy and effective way to prevent many diseases and have a healthier life. Many years ago, vitamins were used with diets, although they weren’t nearly as sophisticated as today. Today’s vitamins are made with consumers in mind: they are effective, cheap and some even taste good.

Although most people don’t realize it, the food an average person eats does not include all the vitamins the body requires for proper functioning. Although you may be following a healthy diet, you won’t receive everything your body needs to carry out many important daily functions. Buying higher quality food might help, but not enough. No matter what you choose to eat, you still won’t get all of the vitamins and nutrients your body needs.

Those who suffer from food allergies and other medical conditions find it even harder to get the right amount of vitamins. If you don’t eat much, you can be at a severe disadvantage as you won’t be ingesting everything your body needs. Therefore it’s imperative that you find food supplements such as vitamins.

No matter how you look at it, you won’t get everything your body needs from food. To get the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients you need, you’ll need to use supplements and vitamins. Vitamin supplements are the easiest way to give your body what it needs. You can use vitamins and supplements in your normal diet, although you’ll need to choose them accordingly with what you need and what your diet consists of.

Although there are several vitamins that you can benefit from, one of the most important is B12. Raising your energy levels, B12 can also help your immune system fight off infections. People with AIDS and other immune conditions benefit greatly from this vitamin. Additional vitamins you’ll need to include in your normal diet are vitamin A, C, D, and E. These vitamins are very important for the well-functioning of your body, as they help with many different functions. Vitamins C and E are possibly the most important as they not only help your skin, but also your whole organism. You should also include selenium and colostrum in your daily diet, as these two vitamins will help your health tremendously.

To ensure that your body remains at it’s best, you should make sure that you have a balanced diet with a proper amount of vitamins. You can find vitamin supplements in many stores. By supplementing your diet with vitamins, you will have enhanced performance in every area of your life. Your children will also benefit from vitamins especially during growth.

Food and Vitamins for Brain Health : Brain Foods

Article by Carole Gayle

Is your brain not as sharp as it once was? Do you have trouble remember things, or retaining information? Or maybe the problem is more in line with Attention Deficit Disorder, or related childhood brain issues. Brain health is something that should be taken seriously. While you don’t often think about brain health when everything is working smoothly, it certainly gets your attention when it is not. Here are some food supplements for the brain that are known to be useful in improving brain function.

The first is your basic multi-vitamin and mineral complex. Moderate doses of vitamins and minerals are excellent brain insurance. In several studies, children who received multivitamin and minerals supplements were observed to have an increase in IQ scorings.

Antioxidant supplements also help clear the brain by the prevention of brain rusting. This is because antioxidants are to remove the rust that prevents the oxidation of our brain mass. Antioxidants are, therefore, primary for optimal brain health. Examples of antioxidants are vitamins C, vitamin E, grape seed extracts, alpha-lipoic acid and coenzyme Q10. Foods rich in antioxidants include raw spinach, garlic, cranberries, cooked cabbage, plums, raisins, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries.

Omega-3 essential fatty acids, found in abundance in cold-water fish, flax seed and walnuts are known for building bridges of communication in neurons that help improve mood and functioning of the center of the brain. Children who do not get enough omega-3 fatty acids during their early development periods may have a lower IQ level in the latter stages of their lives. Omega-3 fatty acids found in cold sea fishes like tuna, sardines, herring, mackerel, salmon, oysters, nuts, and linseed oil. The vegetarian form of essential fatty acids like nuts and seeds are particularly recommended for pregnant women and nursing mothers to increase brain development of fetuses and infants.

Finally, ginkgo biloba is said to ward off memory loss associated with aging. The substance is known to destroy free radicals and increases blood circulation and supply of oxygen to the brain.

If there is a need to correct or deal with brain issues, feeding the brain the nutrients it needs can be substantial in effect. Incorporating any or all of these brain foods and brain food supplements will go a long way in protecting the brain from damage and giving it the nutrients it needs to work smoothly and without hitch. Diet is usually the best way to get these nutrients but if not, supplementation is always the next best step.
