Having a good memory is important in any walk of life but it is crucial when you are running your own business. Without your memory there would be chaos. Most of us don’t trust our memory but how can you improve your memory in order to become more successful in business?

There are memory techniques that can be used to make the process easier. After all when you are running your own business there are so many different names of people to remember (and let’s be honest nobody instantly looks like their name.)

In order to improve your memory you will need to first of all learn to relax. Statistics show that amazingly more people fear public speaking than dying. Therefore it is imperative to learn how to relax and to find an easy method of storing information into your long term memory rather than just into your short term memory.

One of the easiest way to do this is by using association using your imagination. For example if you are due to meet with a Tony then try to visualise a famous person that you would associate with that name e.g. Tony Blair. Or if you are trying to remember a list of a different countries that manufactures items that you need to purchase then try again to use association to store that information into your long term memory. For example if the countries are China, France and Germany then why not imagine a china tea cup for China, the Eiffel tower for France and a famous tennis player like Boris Becker for Germany . It is a proven fact that it is far easier to remember a list of words by using images associated to those words that you are trying to remember.

If you are trying to learn a long list of numbers, which is quite likely when you are running your own business, again try breaking down the list of numbers and using your imagination to visualise those numbers as images instead.

For example if you are trying to remember the number 1915927525 then try breaking it down as follows:

1915…Try to visualise a clock showing that time

9…Think of a balloon on a string that resembles the number 9

2…Imagine a swan that resembles the number 2

7525…Think of something outrageous like a man of 75 marrying a woman of 25

Suddenly that important list of 10 numbers has been broken down into 4 images which will now make it easier to store that number into your long term memory.

The power of using association is that is allows us to store boring information in a more interesting way.

I have found these simple methods have helped me enormously within my business.
The simple memory techniques that I have learned have helped to improve my memory no end. Previously I had struggled to remember names, especially when I was meeting with so many new contacts, but I now just use the power of association in order to instantly remember their names and store them into my long term memory. I also use these methods when I make videos to promote my business as I find that I am far more relaxed and able to remember my script by using this simple method.

Indeed my ten year old daughter can even recite the first 10 numbers of the mathematical Pi number by using this simple technique and my eight year old daughter instantly remembers that there are 22 bones in an adult human skull merely by thinking of 2 swans that resemble the number two rather than trying to remember a number.

It is reassuring to know that in our ever busy lives there are quick and easy ways that we can improve our memories, which will help us to run our businesses more efficiently and in the process will enable us to relax and gain more confidence when meeting or speaking with others .All we need to do is to program our memory and to use it properly.

Three Memory Techniques To Help You Learn A Foreign Language : Memory Exercises

Learning a new language can be a difficult task. But if you use these simple memory exercises/techniques you could be start learning a new language in no time.

Memory technique A: The One Hundred WordsThere’s not a lot to say about this particular technique. I know it works for me. The idea is that you only need a 100 strong words to cover over 50% of all words used in a conversation. By learning those 100 strong words you are one step ahead in speaking a new language or at least perform a basic conversation.

But what are those 100 strong words? It depends on the language and yourself. It’s up to you to decide on the strong words since each individual uses and/or is affected by words in a unique way. You can create a list of words and keep adding words to the list. Start with the ten first numbers from one to ten. Then add words you use very often. You must find the hundred top words of your everyday vocabulary.

After you’ve finished your word list in your native language write down the words from the foreign language next to the words from your native language. Exercise on learning/memorizing the new words and you will notice significant improvement in the way you talk to others using the foreign language.

Memory technique B: The MnemonicsThe idea behind this technique is to use images to link words between your native language and the foreign language. What you do is to associate all words with images in your mind. Then you start linking words by connecting images and create new.

Here’s an example of how to create images of words in your mind:You want to learn the Greek word for the English word “Eagle”. First you imagine an eagle opening its huge wings and flying over the mountains. After creating that image in your mind its time to look at the Greek word which in this case is “Aetos”. When you read/say the Greek word, try to picture the same image in your brain, the one of the eagle flying through the clouds. That way your brain will instantly create a connection between the new word and the image of the eagle. This technique will help you learn and remember new words effectively and easily.

Memory Technique C: The Environment MnemonicThis method is quite sophisticated and is based on the fact that the basic vocabulary of every language is somehow connected/linked to everyday things in your environment (You should define your environment, whether it is a room, a house, a village, a city etc). You should start with a place/location you are familiar with. The idea is to start connecting words with objects/locations in your environment.

For example you could associate in your mind the word “Library” with an image of the local library and the word “Book” with images of the books inside the library. You could associate the word “Park” with a park in your town and the word “Tree” with the trees in the park.

This method is so fun and easy when trying to create phrases by using a combination of the above memory techniques. You could easily create an image of a phrase like this one “..I went to the local library to get a book and then I went to the park to read the book..”.

Short Term Memory : Memory Games: Do They Really Help you Enhance Your Memory

Have you tried to say a phone number over and over again until you memorize it? Many people use this technique to retain information to their memories. However, we tend to forget the phone number after few hours or may be after one day.

This happens because you retain the phone number to the short memory rather than to the long term memory. The short term memory can be very useful for quickly remembering some information such as telephone numbers, but unfortunately it can store bits of information for very short period of time.

In order to remember things for a longer period, you must relate the new data with the data you already know. This help retaining data to your long-term memory and so store the information for longer intervals.

There are numerous techniques that are quite laborious to improve our memory. However, you can also have techniques that are both funny and beneficial. Here you can find several games such as puzzles that can practice your memory.

One way to recall information that you need to retain to your long-term memory is to create a story that associates the particular items or data you need to recall, making them easier to remember. The idea here is that it is easier to recall more data when a fact or data is associated with another idea.

While creating the story, you can also make a strong mental image of what is happening. This aids in associating the information to a picture and concretize it into your long-term memory.

Story-telling is fun while performing with a group. You can rehearse by laying 10 or more things on the floor and try to recall them. Each person in the group takes his or her to add to the story by adding another object.

After you finish adding all the objects in the story you can take them out of the room. After that check to see who can remember most objects. Finally, tell the story as a group by asking each member to tell his or her part. There is no doubt that the group will remember the story and hence all the objects associated.

Another mind-practicing game is the pexeso. This game is a matching pairs like tiles or cards from a group, when one of each group is not visible.

The game can be played with a set of tiles which has pairs of symbols or images. You can play the game using half a pack of cards, but ensure that you have pair of each card i. e 2 queens, 2 jacks, 2 aces . .. . etc.

You start the game by placing 12 matched pairs of cards face down. Then move the cards around to ensure that you don’t know which is which.

Turn one card one at a time and look at the number or the picture, and then turn it down again. You can repeat this process until you turn over a tile that matches a tile you turned earlier. Now, find the card’s pair by recalling from earlier where it is placed. When you located a pair, remove them from the set. You can also devise your own games but you should be sure that they are really mind-practicing games such as puzzles and solving problems.

Games like this will exercise your brain and your memory. Through these games, you can expect that your memory will be a lot sharper and also a lot more accurate.

Vitamins, as the name suggests, are vital minerals (vita for vital + Minerals=Vitamins). Vitamins are required only in very small quantity to sustain life or to perform essential functions; therefore they are classified as micronutrients. Retinol; the medical term for vitamin A indicates its importance for smooth functioning of eye; retina. Next only to retina, vitamin A plays a vital role in the maintenance of skin health.

Sources and RDA of Vitamin A

Vitamin A is found abundantly in nature. Rich sources of vitamin A include animal liver (cow, lamb, poultry, fish and many others), yellow fruits like mango, melon and apricot. Vitamin A is also found in yellow and green vegetables like, Spinach, broccoli, lettuce, sweet potato, yam and many other similar vegetables. Recommended daily allowance of vitamin A ranges from 400 ug/day to 1300 ug /day. The requirement varies for different sex and age groups. Infants and girls need less than men, pregnant women or lactating mothers.

Vitamin A deficiency disease and impacts of overuse

The requirement is easily met with the normal meals and unless prescribed by a physician, no supplementation of vitamin A is required. Deficiency of vitamin A may cause acne, discoloration of skin and night blindness. Excessive use of vitamin A, on the other hand may cause loss of hair with some serious side effects like damage to kidney in extreme cases.

Synthetic versions

Some synthetic preparations for topical treatment of acne are available. They are Supplements of vitamin and utilize the active ingredient ‘Isotretinoin’ and available under the brand name ‘accutane’.The synthetic preparations are in no way superior to the natural resources which do not cause toxicity. Synthetic alternates may have side effects and should not be used unless prescribed in which case intake of vitamin A from other resources must be curtailed to remain within limits of RDA.

An overdose of vitamin A may cause hair loss and some other undesirable changes and some be very serious and can even damage kidney. Overconsumption of vitamin A can also reduce human memory. In view of the potential adverse side effects it is absolutely necessary to use synthetic preparations of vitamin A only when prescribed.

The reduced glands do not produce sebum (hair oil ) in excess therefore the development of acne is averted. Excess vitamins, with the exception of the fat soluble vitamins (A, D and E), are eliminated from the body. The fat soluble vitamins are stored in the body, and can have serious side effects, particularly vitamin A. The water soluble vitamins can also cause unpleasant and sometimes dangerous side effects, which is a problem with one popular vitamin related treatment for acne, the B5 acne program. However, vitamins and minerals are needed for the health of the skin, our hormonal balance, and a strong immune system. These things all have an impact on acne, so it’s important to make sure you’re at least getting the recommended daily allowance of vitamins.

Vitamin A, and the B vitamins, all have important roles in the health of the skin. Vitamin A strengthens the skin, and a deficiency can lead to acne. However, it is important to note that an excess of this vitamin can also create pimples. Too much vitamin A can be dangerous, especially for pregnant women, who should not take more than 10,000 IU a day. Others can take up to 25,000 IU daily, and this is indeed recommended for treating acne.

Other side effects of vitamin A overdose include nausea, itchiness, irritability, vomiting, headaches, menstrual problems, and dizziness. Long term vitamin A overdose can lead to liver damage, pain in the muscles and bone, and headaches. Some people can have symptoms at a lower dose than 15,000 to 25,000 IU, so this should be monitored if you’re taking these levels of vitamin A.

The B vitamins are all important for healthy skin tone, though several are recommended for acne sufferers. These are vitamin B3 (100 mg three times a day), vitamin B6 (50 mg three times a day), and vitamin B5 (50 mg three times a day). If you are taking any B vitamins separately, it’s recommended that you take a B complex, as this group work together and taking some without the others can result in a deficiency of some B vitamins. The B vitamins also help with the effects of stress, which can be important for acne sufferers.

Vitamin E is excellent for speeding up the healing process, due to its antioxidant capacity. It also helps with the absorption of vitamin A. The suggested amount is 400 IU daily.

Vitamin C with bioflavanoids is the only vitamin that has an anti-inflammatory effect. It also helps with skin healing, and gives the immune system a boost. Try 3000 to 5000 mg spread throughout the day.
