The following seven steps will help you in your mission to keep your brain working as perfectly as possible. Try to implement all of the following tips into your life.

1. Do a regular exercise routine some simple exercises like a short walk or jog. This will help to keep the body physically fit and energetic. What these easy work-outs do is to activate the release of neurochemicals that are known as endorphins. These chemicals are what makes us feel happy, and by feeling happier, a more constructive effect on the brain can be seen.

Thus, you should take the time to relax and cleanse the mind of the fears and stresses that might overwhelm it. You may want to try to go to your local spa for a massage or take a meditation class to give your mind a break from all the things that get on your nerves. Good Luck!

Better Brain Boosters: Natural Not Artificial Ways To Brain Strength : Brain Foods

Article by Brenda Skidmore

Most people don’t consider how hard their brain works for them every day. We are usually focused on the rest of our body and unfortunately, we do not know how to properly care for our hard working brain.

We have bitten into the assumption hook, line, and sinker ( bought and paid for by the pharmaceutical industry) that at some point we will lose our control of our memory as we age. A strong and sharp memory does impress others, especially well into our later years.

It is possible to boost brain power at any age after making a few simple lifestyles changes. These powerful strategies can work in as little as two weeks! The simple changes I’m talking about are brain food, exercise, antioxidants, and plenty of water.

The healthiest brain food of all is well documented, and that would be omega-3 fatty acid. A deficiency of this essential fat can impair your learning ability, intelligence, and increase your risk of depression and memory problems. Omega-6 fatty acid is an essential fatty acid that we need too, and it is considered a healthy fat for our bodies. Unfortunately, we eat to much of it at a rate of about 20:1. Ideally we should be consuming it at a rate of about 4:1 with omega-3. An overload of omega-6 is believed to induce inflammation, which is undesirable throughout the body, and especially in the brain.

Getting more omega-3 is as easy as eating more cold water fish such as mackerel, salmon, tuna, haddock, lake trout, or herring. If contaminated fish sources scare you supplementing with fish oil is a good way to get your omega-3. Chickens that are fed a a fish meal mixture will produce eggs that are rich in omega-3. Walnuts and flax are other sources of this much needed nutrient.

Exercise does benefit your brain cells. The blood vessel system inside your brain will dilate and improve blood flow when you engage in regular exercise. Exercise helps get out the toxins or other offending agents and lets oxygen and nutrients flow in so your brain can use them.

Antioxidants like vitamin C and E help protect brain cells from damage caused by free radicals. Vitamin E can be found in food sources like wheat germ, yogurt, soy yogurts, and sunflower seeds. Getting enough is difficult sometimes and supplementing is often recommended. Vitamin C helps boost immune response and helps lower inflammation. Inflammation in the brain is the last place you want to see this of anywhere in the body. Of all the B vitamins B12 is also an important nutrient for healthy brains, as well as the mineral magnesium.

The importance of adequate water intake is poorly understood by most people in proper brain health. In his book “Your Body’s Many Cries For Water” Dr. Batmanghelidj, MD explains, water that the brain uses as electrical energy is generated by the water drive of the energy-generating pumps. With no water (dehydration) the level of energy generation in the brain is decreased. Many functions of the brain that depend on this type of energy become inefficient. This inadequacy of function is recognized as depression. This”depressive state” caused by dehydration can lead to chronic fatigue syndrome. In other words these labels of disease are really just seen to be associated with stress. A dehydrated body is a stressed body.

Taking care of your brain health just makes sense anyway you look at it. Your brain pretty much controls every function throughout your body.

Drug companies would like for you to believe the solution is to take one of their antidepressants daily for the rest of your life to restore your “chemical imbalance”. Which after you quit taking, often times many discover, the condition is not healed and returns.

The fact is anyone of these, or a combination of the natural strategies mentioned above have been proven to work time and time again. The question is which of these methods makes more sense and what would you rather try?

Brenda Skidmore has spent the last three years researching natural health care alternatives. She can attest to the many benefits of natural practical cures and preventive strategies for human health. Along with the many medical professionals whose published works she has studied. It is her sincere desire to bring forth this knowledge for the betterment of mankind. Can Brain Training Games Make You a Better Driver? Allstate Insurance To Test Them : Brain Training

Article by Alvaro Fernandez

Copyright (c) 2008 SharpBrains

Insurance company Allstate just announced a very intelligent initiative. According to the Chicago Tribune:

-“Allstate, which called the Posit program (brain training games) “potentially the next big breakthrough in automobile safety,” said it expects its software exercises to reduce risky driving maneuvers by up to 40 percent and improve stopping distance by an average of 22 feet when traveling at 55 miles per hour.”

-“We’ll look to see whether over the next six to nine months there will be a reduction in” the number of accidents between the group participating in the video exercises and those sitting out, said Tom Warden, assistant vice president of Allstate’s research and planning center.

Alvaro Fernandez: I am fortunate to interview Tom Warden, Assistant Vice President and Leader of Allstate’s Research and Planning Center, based in Menlo Park, California. Tom, thank you for your time. Can you please explain the context behind this new initiative that you just announced?

Tom Warden: Our research center is constantly looking for new ideas to improve the driving behavior of drivers of all ages. Recently we have paid extra emphasis on ways to improve the safety of older drivers.

Let me provide some background here. Allstate, as a company, has always been one of the pioneers in helping to introduce new safety measures. For example, we were among the pioneers in the 60s to advocate for mandatory use of seating belts, given research studies on the benefits for drivers and passengers alike. More recently, we helped lobby for wider adoption of airbags, an effective but expensive way of protection that only became mainstream when manufacturers were required to include them.

AF: Let’s talk now about your agreement with Posit Science. What will happen over the next months?

TW: The first thing we are doing is to conduct a research study to analyze the real-life impact of Posit Science InSight, a computer-based cognitive training program, on accident rates. We know that as drivers get older, especially in their 70s and beyond, a number of cognitive problems can get in the way of safe driving. We want to see if there is a way to reduce this effect.

We are offering the InSight program for free to over 100,000 auto policy-holders in Pennsylvania aged 50-75, and to some potential clients. We recommend participants to devote at least 10 hours to the training exercises, but of course the more they can devote the better. We will compare the results with a control group.

AF: How will you measure success, and by when will you know if your expectations are met?

TW: Given that we have already started recruiting participants and training may start as soon as next week, we may have some interesting results by the end of March 2009 or perhaps during the summer. In order to have statistically meaningful numbers, we will have to see how many people enroll in the study and the size of the observed impact. We will analyze the program compliance rates since this type of intervention needs to be engaging enough for people to devote a number of hours to at home. But, at the end of the day, what we want to see is whether using the program will translate into lower accident rates and better safety.

AF: Assuming those goals are met, what would be the next steps?

TW: In that case we will have to figure out ways to roll out the program nationwide, perhaps even offering discounts to policy-holders who commit to using the program. We would also engage in public advocacy, share the results, partner with the DMV and other agencies.

But, we have not really contemplated this yet, we need to see the results first.

AF: The InSight program is a pretty specialized program. It does not train all main cognitive skills involved in driving, such as say working memory or divided attention, but focuses mostly on visual processing. Are you conducting some type of independent cognitive assessment to identify who may benefit from that program vs. other options?

TW: No, we are not. We became interested in talking to Posit Science after they acquired Visual Awareness, the company that had developed the Useful Field of View (UFOV) technology. We felt Karlene Ball and her team brought the kind of research that stood up to our standards and held the most promise to meet our needs.

AF: What was the main business case to embark on a pioneering initiative like this?

TW: As I said earlier, Allstate has a long tradition of introducing safety-related measures, and this initiative reflects that commitment. In this case, our objective goes even beyond driver safety: we want to help our clients. We want to contribute to their overall quality of life and protection. We believe that programs like InSight can contribute to better daily functioning and quality of life. We want our clients to have positive feelings towards Allstate and to know we care about them.

AF: A potential concern we have heard in similar cases, where an insurance company offered a computer-based assessment or training program, is Privacy. How can users of InSight who are also Allstate policy holders know that whatever information the program gathers cannot be used against them, for example to deny coverage or increase premiums?

TW: That’s a great question. We are aware of that potential concern, and we are putting processes in place so that Allstate doesn’t get access to any cognitive information on a particular individual. The Posit Science program is gathering the information, and Posit Science will only share data with us at an aggregated level, for overall research purposes. Allstate will be completely blind as to who uses the program.

AF: Any final remarks for our readers to understand the significance of your agreement?

TW: We believe this program has the potential to lower accident rates and improve the quality of life of millions of adults. We are excited to be able to offer it to our policy-holders, to show our commitment to innovation and to their overall protection and well-being. We are hopeful that, if the results are as positive as we believe they can be, interventions like this can become a major new safety benefit, and that it may positively reflect on AllState’s brand and public perception.

AF: Tom, thank you very much for your time. We will be very interested in learning more about the ongoing progress of this initiative.

TW: Thank you.

All of us, in a certain level of our lives, experienced memory loss. It might be forgetting the place we put the keys, if we have now locked the door, etc. As we grow older, it is pure for some of our mind cells to age and die which would cause some issues with memory. Over time, analysis on brain training showed that it may help in reducing reminiscence loss.

Dementia is one of the biggest well being points that the older technology is facing. At present, about 24 million individuals are affected by dementia. By 2040, the number could reach about 84 million of sufferers, making us one of the attainable sufferers of dementia.

The identical goes for Alzheimer’s illness which is affecting about five million Americans. Health experts mission that Alzheimer sufferers might attain about sixteen million by 2050. That’s till the current era would do one thing to avoid such problems with reminiscence loss.

In keeping with the research findings, the three groups that received memory coaching confirmed enchancment in their mental functions. Those who underwent memory training classes confirmed development in how they process the data and faster reasoning.

Those who have not received any coaching did not exhibit any development of their psychological activities. Aside from improved reminiscence, there are studies showing mind training also had an effect on the mind’s alertness and talent to stay in a constructive mood.

Mind coaching, nevertheless, shouldn’t be a normal program for everyone. A selected brain training program may work for one person, however may not yield significant results on the other. How would you like to be a veritable sponge for absorbing information, learning and retaining whole volumes and libraries of information with the ease of a whole host of academics, shocking everyone with your knowledge, winning game shows and sweeping the local pub quiz nights with your quick banter, encyclopaedic brain and almost vast and endless pits of knowledge? Now you can as well with the technology called subliminal learning. What happens is that our minds are quite limited in the learning department, no matter how much we think we can learn. This is because of the cognitive processes that exist in our mind and how we each retain and learn information is different from person to person.

To be truly technical in the matter, it can be safely said that the brain has the capability for almost limitless learning; it has memory banks that seem to have no limit and a memory system that is almost perfect. The only hurdle to accessing this is of course human limitations and the fact that the brain does not function solely as a learning tool for the human being. It also co-ordinates our limbic system, our psychological systems and our human central nervous and emotional processes. Our day-to-day bodily functions also come into the purview of our brain and the cerebral cortex – but all this is not to say that we are incapable of multi tasking. We are, but as the brain concentrates on more than one function at a time, then we might have a diluted experience as our brain capacity is stretched too thin.

Then we must also think about the possible distractions like emotional stress, depression, hyperactivity, learning problems and attention deficit disorders that exist in small quantities throughout people across the world. What needs to be done is to focus the brain into a state that is optimal for both learning new data and information as well as retaining the information as well. We can achieve this through subliminal learning, which is a method that leans the brain into a constant state of learning and absorption. The combination of our vision and our memory system means that the brain has an almost photographic memory, which is available in all of us – the key is in unlocking it.

While ‘remembering’ the information, more and more is absorbed and more is learned at the same time. This can even be done when the individual is asleep, meaning that erudition is a non-stop 24-hour process. Absorbing knowledge better with subliminal learning is indeed possible, as the technology is widely available everywhere you turn. All it takes is logging onto the internet and searching for the right keywords, which is often something along the lines of ‘self improvement’ or ‘subliminal learning’.

Always make sure you do some in-depth research as well when it comes to subliminal CDs and mp3s; go for the ones that have the most rave reviews and third party recommendations. With this, you will have the advantage of topping your class, impressing your friends and be the overall smart guy or girl in your group.

Tricks To Make Your Memory Better : Photographic Memory

Article by Kathy Smith

It will be cool to actually remember all the names of the people we meet or recite from memory all of the books that we have read. But not all people are blessed with a photographic memory that can capture a lot of data. The most that most people can do is to remember about 50 percent of the details in the books that they have read and recall about 10 names in the 50 people they meet. But hey, this does not mean that we should all give up wanting to make our memory better.

Although we cannot actually make our memory as powerful as one with a photographic memory, we can at least improve its processes so that we can recall more names than we usually do. This is especially true with people who are already aging. As we grow older, our memory slips. This is why most of our grandfathers and mothers often forget a lot of things, even our names.

Below are some names on how to make your memory a little bit better. Read on and you might still be able to do something with that faulty memory of yours.

1. Start earlyIt is important to take care of the brain early on to avoid forgetfulness when old age comes. Brain development starts at a very young age, from 0-3 years old. It is during this time when your brain grows the fastest. Although you may not have any power over your parents actions during this time, you can at least add to their care when you are much older, say 6 or 7 years old, by eating the right foods and avoiding as you grow old vices like cigarettes and alcohol which are proven to lessen memory skills.

2. Commit to the improvementYou should at least be able to commit to the task of bettering your memory. You may not realize it but it is not as simple as memorizing a grocery list and practicing your brain with crossword puzzles and memory games; you will also be changing the way you live your life and the food that you eat. Changing your lifestyle and your diet takes a lot of gumption and self-discipline from you. You will not be able to do it if you do not commit wholeheartedly to the task.

3. Practice Use your brain. Whether it is something as simple as reading a book or playing a strategy game like chess, exercising your brain will help keep those neurons awake and working. In fact, studies have shown that those who answer crossword puzzles, read or generally use their brains will less likely become senile or acquire Alzheimer’s Disease. Using your brain will prevent it from being rusty and dusty.

4. Visualize it One of the most common techniques to improve memory is to visualize words and things. You see, the brain sees data as pictures. It will be easily stored and faster to retrieve if it is seen and visualized as one picture than when it is memorized as numbers or words. For instance, if you are trying to memorize a grocery list, you do not memorize the words. You memorize the pictures of the things that you need to buy. That way, when you go to the grocery store, you will remember to buy that item, bettering your memory in the process.

These days, it is common knowledge that ingesting vitamins is an easy and effective way to prevent many diseases and have a healthier life. Many years ago, vitamins were used with diets, although they weren’t nearly as sophisticated as today. Today’s vitamins are made with consumers in mind: they are effective, cheap and some even taste good.

Although most people don’t realize it, the food an average person eats does not include all the vitamins the body requires for proper functioning. Although you may be following a healthy diet, you won’t receive everything your body needs to carry out many important daily functions. Buying higher quality food might help, but not enough. No matter what you choose to eat, you still won’t get all of the vitamins and nutrients your body needs.

Those who suffer from food allergies and other medical conditions find it even harder to get the right amount of vitamins. If you don’t eat much, you can be at a severe disadvantage as you won’t be ingesting everything your body needs. Therefore it’s imperative that you find food supplements such as vitamins.

No matter how you look at it, you won’t get everything your body needs from food. To get the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients you need, you’ll need to use supplements and vitamins. Vitamin supplements are the easiest way to give your body what it needs. You can use vitamins and supplements in your normal diet, although you’ll need to choose them accordingly with what you need and what your diet consists of.

Although there are several vitamins that you can benefit from, one of the most important is B12. Raising your energy levels, B12 can also help your immune system fight off infections. People with AIDS and other immune conditions benefit greatly from this vitamin. Additional vitamins you’ll need to include in your normal diet are vitamin A, C, D, and E. These vitamins are very important for the well-functioning of your body, as they help with many different functions. Vitamins C and E are possibly the most important as they not only help your skin, but also your whole organism. You should also include selenium and colostrum in your daily diet, as these two vitamins will help your health tremendously.

To ensure that your body remains at it’s best, you should make sure that you have a balanced diet with a proper amount of vitamins. You can find vitamin supplements in many stores. By supplementing your diet with vitamins, you will have enhanced performance in every area of your life. Your children will also benefit from vitamins especially during growth.

How to Improve Your Memory With Better Food Choices : Brain Foods

Article by John MacRaay

Good Food, Good for Your Brain.

The food you eat shouldn’t be chosen based on how it tastes to your tongue. The food you eat has a huge bearing on how well your mind and body function. When you were younger, and your parents were constantly telling you to eat your greens, well, they were on to something.

The first step to a healthier memory and a healthier mind is to pay heed to your parents sagely advice. Eat right! Eating well can help keep you emotionally balanced, and keep your mind young.

The Right Foods.

In a modern era, eating well can be difficult. There is no doubt a fast food restaurant nearby begging you to eat something cheap and easy. Your local grocery store might be full of heavily processed, but easy to prepare, foods. Whatever challenges are abound, it is worth overcoming them in an effort to eat better.

Simply by eating better foods, you will have better concentration abilities, you will be able to think quicker, and your memory will be able to more easily pull up information quickly.

When deciding what food to buy, the shopper should always look at the nutrition facts on the label. The nutrition facts are not designed as pretty packaging, there are there to help consumers. Firstly, if a product has more than seven ingredients, ignore said product. Make an effort to choose foods with lesser ingredients, and fewer processed elements.

“The more you have to do yourself in preparing a meal, the better food you will serve on your table.”

A Few Suggestions.

Snacking is not a crime. However, the way in which you snack is very important. If you are going to snack, make a point to keep healthy snacks on hand. Also, try to balance out what snacks you are eating between proteins, carbs, and fats just like you would with your regular meals. Furthermore, you will be less likely to purchase tempting unhealthy snacks. When you eat, do so in moderation.By not eating in excess, the body is able to get what it needs, without being inundated with excess. Your body only needs a certain amount of sugar, fats, and proteins, and that’s what you should be giving it. Do not make your body work harder than it needs to by overindulging.Drink more water.Make an effort to fit drinking more water into your daily habits. Ideally, you should be drinking eight cups of water per day. If you can’t drink eight cups, then get as close as you can. Your body, and your blood, is mostly made up of water. Make a point to give your blood the tool it needs (water!) to bring nutrients to your brain. When nutrients and oxygen are reaching your brain, your brain is functioning better. Remember to intake essential fats. Not all fats are created equally. Make a point of including Omega-3 Fatty acids, found in avocados, and DHA, which is found in fish, into your diet. These fats are largely what make up our brain composition, and are good for the mind. Include antioxidants in your diet.As the uses oxygen and food, it creates free radicals. Free radicals are a good thing for your body in moderation, but often times our bodies create an excess. In order to cut down on the excess free radicals in the brain, foods with antioxidants should be included in one’s diet. Such foods include kiwis, broccoli, strawberries, cranberries blackberries, and a litany of others.Balance out proteins, carbohydrates, and fats that are positive for the diet. The human body requires that we maintain a balanced diet. Often, people eat too much carbohydrates and sugars. The excess of carbs and sugar causes blood sugar to rise, and causes the brain to function slower. Keep hearty proteins in your diet: like the ones found in soy, cheese, nuts (especially walnuts), and lean meats.Make your healthy diet work for you.Create a plan, and work with it. Plan out meals in advance; that way you won’t just end up heating up whatever is easy (and likely unhealthy) from the freezer. Additionally, if you’ve got a shopping list, while at the store, you will be more likely to purchase the foods that you need, not necessarily the ones you just want.

Conclusion.

Eating the right food in order to improve your physical and mental health is not so difficult as many people believe. I hope that I have given you some easy examples of how to implement a healthier way of eating to improve your memory by improving your physical health as well as your mental health through the food that passes your mouth.

Health Diet – Eat to Increase Your Brain Function Resulting in Better Concentration : Brain Foods

Article by Candice McInnes

It is always important to stick to a healthy diet, this will give us a feeling of well-being and increase our energy levels as well. We all know that there are certain foods or drinks that can interfere with our brain function and cause loss of concentration and/or memory, but the real question here though is – are there foods out there that can increase our brain function which will result in better concentration? The answer is a resounding YES! to that question.

A) What are brain foods and how are they used?

The following nutrients are used by the brain:

* carbohydrates – for energy* omega 3 – for formation of cell structure* Vitamin B6, B12 and folic acid – these help manufacture and release a chemical [known as neurotransmitters]* vitamin C, E and beta-carotene [rich in antioxidant properties] – protect brain cells from damage due to free-radicals found in environmental pollution

B) Brain Foods to eat and why

1) Spinach – this assists with age related problems [including decline in function] and may lessen damage from strokes and neurological disorders. Spinach also protects the brain from oxidant stress [as a antioxidant]

2) Eggs – containing choline [a component of fat-like molecules] egg yolk is partly responsible for general brain function and health. Choline deficiency is said to contribute to Alzheimers and age related mental declines

3) Sweet potatoes – rich in vitamin B6, C, carbohydrates and beta-carotene this vegetable is pretty important to the functioning of the brain [see A above]

4) Yellow fin tuna – rich in omega 3, vitamin B [known as niacin]. The omega 3 fatty acids help keep the cell membranes flexible, thus maximizing the intake of all the important nutrients needed, while niacin protects against Alzheimers

5) Strawberries – rich in vitamin C, strawberry eaters have better motor skills and a higher learning capacity and their brain is protected in the fact that age-related function decline is reduced

6) Cranberries – improvements in memory, balance and co-ordination have been noted in people consuming this sour berry, this berry also protects the brain from free-radical damage

7) Kidney beans – containing thiamine, needed for synthesizing choline, and inositil which is believed to improve mood disorders

8) Loin of lamb – rich in vitamin B12 [see A above] and iron [iron deficiency can cause problems with concentration and other mental performances]

9) Wheat germ – Rich in vitamin E [see A above] and selenium which are both powerful antioxidants, it also contains choline and magnesium making this food a powerful brain nutrient

There are probably a few brain foods that I have missed but as you can see by what I have jotted down, there are enough brain foods out there to give you the concentration kick you are after.

Better Vision for Greater Memory : Memory Exercises

Article by Victor Alemán

To keep the memory sharp, it is important to maintain vision. Relaxation is the key to maintain vision for many years. Vision and mental focus go hand in hand and both don’t do well with strain and stress. Relaxation and inner peace is important in remembering things. All these things rely on each other to work properly.A great way to test the condition of the eyes is a mental memory exercise. In this exercise, the goal is to maintain a visual image for as long as possible. To start, cover one eye and glance quickly at a letter on the page with the other eye. Close your eyes and hold the image of the letter in your mind as long as possible. Count how many seconds the image stays in your mind before fading away to darkness. Take note of this number. Do the same thing for the other eye and compare the results. Now relax the eyes and try again. One way to relax the eyes is to close them and concentrate only on pleasant thoughts and good memories. Allow your eyes to focus on the darkness and forget everything around you. Open your eyes and try the exercise again. Hopefully the results are different and the image stayed longer the second time around. If not, you may need to find some eye relaxing exercises and work on removing the strain.Vision affects memory. We need the vision to see the image. The more clearly we see the image the more detail we can recall on later. Focusing on the positive events will help keep the mind relaxed and the eyes free of strain. The following exercise will help you relax and improve your memory. Try it tonight. While lying in bed tonight focus on all the positive things that happened throughout the day. Picture the events of the in as much detail and color as possible. Try picturing your lunch or the clothes the person who complimented you was wearing. Focusing on the positive will clear your mind, relax the body, and give you a better night’s sleep.Removing the strain from the eyes will not only improve your vision it will also improve your memory.

Dr William H. Bates was born in 1860 in New Jersey, USA and he died in 1931. He graduated from Cornell University in 1881 and received his medical degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1885. He established a practice in New York and worked for a time as clinical assistant at the Manhattan Eye and Ear Hospital. He was also a physician at Bellevue Hospital in 1886-88, and at the New York Eye Infirmary, the Northern Dispensary and the North-eastern Dispensary in 1886-96. From 1886-1891 he was an instructor in Ophthalmology at the New York Postgraduate Medical School and Hospital. In 1896 Dr Bates gave up his hospital work for several years of research work, coming back to New York as attending physician in the Harlem Hospital from 1907-22.In 1919 he published the only book he ever wrote, “Perfect eyesight without glasses”, where he described all his work on the eye’s functioning. From 1921 – 1931 he published the Journal ‘Better Eyesight’ which comprises a mixture of excerpts from his book and later case notes and other writings.

Bates wondered why people who wore glasses for a while didn’t develop better vision, but tended to need stronger and stronger glasses. After years of experiments Dr Bates proved that the eye is easily trained and that unstrained eyes are unaffected by stress, old age or doing close work.Bates proved that nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and crossed eye are caused by chronically tense external eye muscles, and that this tension, created by strained mental and physical vision habits acquired during a period of stress, is reversible. The Bates Method has been generally misunderstood and thought of as some sort of ‘eye gymnastics’ designed to supposedly ‘strengthen the eye muscles’. This is completely wrong. Dr Bates based his work on the principle of relaxation to bring about coordination of eye and brain allowing vision to ‘happen’. And also by increasing awareness and perception, whether one is reading a book, using a computer, playing sports or looking at a friend.

Improve Memory For A Better Life : Brain Vitamin

Article by Woolley Thomas

We have quite often heard that memory fades with age, but if there is a scope to improve memory why not make the most of it. Memory improvement techniques work to a great extent. There are websites that offer free advice and help in this area.

Brain Boosting Vitamins

A healthy brain guarantees a good memory. If you are well stocked on the necessary vitamins, you are sure to have a sharp brain.

* Vitamin B – Researches indicate that vitamin B is excellent for the brain. Foods containing it create a protective shield in the brain for the neurons. They help produce red blood cells that carry oxygen to the brain.

* Antioxidants – Antioxidants such as vitamins C, E, and beta carotene provide protection to brain tissues by breaking down free radicals.

* Omega 3 Fatty Acids – Though these cannot be classified as vitamins, they are equally important for enhancing memory and boosted brain functioning.

These can be termed to be some of the basic vitamins that are important for improved memory. But these alone will not help. What is needed is an effort from your side. You can help yourself improve your memory by adopting techniques specially defined for the purpose.

Memory Improving Techniques

Having a sharp memory may or may not run in your genes but it is definitely true that you can take certain steps towards memory improvement.

* Chunking data is one way of memorizing. You can use this with numbers where you chunk a couple of digits to memorize a larger number. Many of you may be doing this with phone numbers. Or you may have a long list of items to remember. Try sorting out the various types and then chunk the similar ones together to recall when needed.

* Rhyming is something you must have done a lot in play school. The same rhyming can also help you memorize . If you have something long to memorize, try converting it into a rhyme and see the wonderful way you are able to memorize.

* Reciting is yet another means of improving memory. You might have participated in some recital or must have simply heard yourself reading to yourself. When you do so, you mouth every word helping it to register in your brain.

Exercise for Memory Improvement

You might have had the best brain food and must also be adopting all techniques required for a sharp memory. Along with these, there are a couple of other factors that do their job. You can call these brain exercises.

* Meditation: This is an age old method to relax the brain and help it gear up for a renewed session of work. This can be done anywhere, anytime. All you need is a quiet place. You can feel yourself unwind and relax.

* Massage: A massage once in a while is always soothing to the brain and body. It brings about calmness with reduced stress and toxins.

* Physical Exercise: Any kind of physical activity is beneficial not only for the body but also the brain. It functions as a stress buster and helps the brain unwind.

* Recreation: Recreation is not only about having fun. It has its own set of advantages with one serving the brain directly. It can be anything from watching a movie to visiting friends and family.

The human brain is a huge storehouse of data but many a times it becomes difficult to recall things. By adopting means to improve memory, this gap between storing and recalling can be greatly reduced.

Various techniques have been listed to improve memory. It is important to combine these techniques with brain boosting vitamins to keep the brain healthy.
