Brain Power : Brain Power – 7 Ways to Increase the Power of Your Brain

Unless you fit in the Einstein category, chances are that you would like to increase the power of your brain.

There are various ways to do this – some natural, others involving the use of food supplements.

Regular Exercise –
Start by exercising regularly. This doesn’t have to be a full workout at the gym. It can be as simple as walking more often. Exercise releases chemicals into your brain called endorphins. These are our body’s way of feeling happier and these chemicals will have a positive impact on your brain.

Supplement Your Diet –
Natural supplements like Ginko Biloba have also been shown to have positive effects on brain power. You can get them online from places like Amazon or from your local health food store.

Exercise Your Brain –
Another way to increase the power of your brain is to use it more! A few minutes “brain exercise” a day will help – anything from doing Sudoku or a crossword, reading a book, etc. Anything that stretches your brain is useful!

Brain Power Games –
Many of the games consoles nowadays have games that are aimed at increasing your brain power. These are often labeled Brain Training, so if you have access to a games console they are a good way to increase your brain power. There are also computer based equivalents if you don’t have a console.

Take Up a Hobby –
Most hobbies have some kind of learning involved. Whether it’s the best way to make a fly for your fishing or how to use the tools for wood turning or whatever, you’ll almost certainly have to learn new things. These will help you to expand the power of your brain as it starts to use parts that haven’t been used for longer than you’d care to remember.

Get Plenty of Sleep –
Sleep is the time that our body uses to rebuild and repair itself. Making sure that you get enough sleep will give your body the energy that you need during the day. Taking a 10 minute “power nap” once or twice during the day is also a habit well worth learning. You’ll wake from the power nap refreshed and raring to go again.

Learn To Relax –
Our modern lives tend to be more stressful than those of our ancestors. Whilst we’re not necessarily working physically harder, our brains are definitely working harder than those of our ancestors a few hundred years ago. We’re subjected to a barrage of advertisements and other external “data” that our brain has to process in case there’s a threat (that’s our ancient survival programming coming into play). Take up some kind of relaxing hobby whether it’s regular exercise, meditation or another form or relaxation. Your brain will appreciate the break and will work harder for you when you need it to.

You can also use the power of affirmations to boost your brain power.

Every individual wants to enhance his memory power especially for those who are getting older. This is because as our age increases, we experience short term memory loss. Thus, we want to find ways on how to improve our memory so that we can keep focused on the things that we do. But the concern on improving the memory power is not just for adults but also for the young people who want to have increased mental focus particularly to students who desire to excel in school.

How We are Losing our Mental Focus

Our age is the only factor and the older we get, our brain deteriorates. Our brain will show signs that its capacity is already declining which leads to memory loss. But, this can be controlled and even reversed. To maintain the efficiency of our brain at peak, we have to take a lot of rest, more oxygen, along with proper nutrition. This is because as our arteries harden as we grow old, our brain absorbs less oxygen.

Our lifestyle and diet will also determine the rate of mental loss that we will experience because our brain needs the important nutrients to function well. At the same time, the stress that we encounter and other mental problems that we have will prevent our mind to rest well.

How Can We Improve our Memory Power?

Good thing there are a lot of ways where you can enhance your memory power. You can start with taking natural herb supplement instead of prescription medications for they have side effects. Your body will respond favourably with herbal supplements and you will have sharper minds in no time without damaging the other parts of your body.

Change of Lifestyle to Help Improve Memory Power

Change your lifestyle by replacing your bad habits with healthy routine. If you do this habitually, you will experience sharper mind with no short term memory loss. With this, you will have greater productivity and with greater satisfaction with your daily activities.

• Eat healthy by making sure that you are taking daily the right amount of grains, fruits, vegetables, and those foods that are high in potassium and magnesium. Hydrate yourself by drinking plenty of water to improve your blood flow.
• Have a regular exercise to keep your body fit and at the same time to stimulate your brain through increased blood circulation.
• Make sure you keep your brain working by learning new skills and knowing new facts or information. Play mind games, read, and many others to reduce memory loss.
• Have enough sleep and rest and try to sleep eight hours per night for you to wake up refreshed and recharged the next day.
• Reduce stress in your life by resting your brain from stress through meditating or using Yoga to unload your daily pressures. You will have more focus if your brain is relaxed.

Conclusion

Your memory loss can be reversed if you have a healthy lifestyle and through taking a natural herbal supplement.

Better Brain Boosters: Natural Not Artificial Ways To Brain Strength : Brain Foods

Article by Brenda Skidmore

Most people don’t consider how hard their brain works for them every day. We are usually focused on the rest of our body and unfortunately, we do not know how to properly care for our hard working brain.

We have bitten into the assumption hook, line, and sinker ( bought and paid for by the pharmaceutical industry) that at some point we will lose our control of our memory as we age. A strong and sharp memory does impress others, especially well into our later years.

It is possible to boost brain power at any age after making a few simple lifestyles changes. These powerful strategies can work in as little as two weeks! The simple changes I’m talking about are brain food, exercise, antioxidants, and plenty of water.

The healthiest brain food of all is well documented, and that would be omega-3 fatty acid. A deficiency of this essential fat can impair your learning ability, intelligence, and increase your risk of depression and memory problems. Omega-6 fatty acid is an essential fatty acid that we need too, and it is considered a healthy fat for our bodies. Unfortunately, we eat to much of it at a rate of about 20:1. Ideally we should be consuming it at a rate of about 4:1 with omega-3. An overload of omega-6 is believed to induce inflammation, which is undesirable throughout the body, and especially in the brain.

Getting more omega-3 is as easy as eating more cold water fish such as mackerel, salmon, tuna, haddock, lake trout, or herring. If contaminated fish sources scare you supplementing with fish oil is a good way to get your omega-3. Chickens that are fed a a fish meal mixture will produce eggs that are rich in omega-3. Walnuts and flax are other sources of this much needed nutrient.

Exercise does benefit your brain cells. The blood vessel system inside your brain will dilate and improve blood flow when you engage in regular exercise. Exercise helps get out the toxins or other offending agents and lets oxygen and nutrients flow in so your brain can use them.

Antioxidants like vitamin C and E help protect brain cells from damage caused by free radicals. Vitamin E can be found in food sources like wheat germ, yogurt, soy yogurts, and sunflower seeds. Getting enough is difficult sometimes and supplementing is often recommended. Vitamin C helps boost immune response and helps lower inflammation. Inflammation in the brain is the last place you want to see this of anywhere in the body. Of all the B vitamins B12 is also an important nutrient for healthy brains, as well as the mineral magnesium.

The importance of adequate water intake is poorly understood by most people in proper brain health. In his book “Your Body’s Many Cries For Water” Dr. Batmanghelidj, MD explains, water that the brain uses as electrical energy is generated by the water drive of the energy-generating pumps. With no water (dehydration) the level of energy generation in the brain is decreased. Many functions of the brain that depend on this type of energy become inefficient. This inadequacy of function is recognized as depression. This”depressive state” caused by dehydration can lead to chronic fatigue syndrome. In other words these labels of disease are really just seen to be associated with stress. A dehydrated body is a stressed body.

Taking care of your brain health just makes sense anyway you look at it. Your brain pretty much controls every function throughout your body.

Drug companies would like for you to believe the solution is to take one of their antidepressants daily for the rest of your life to restore your “chemical imbalance”. Which after you quit taking, often times many discover, the condition is not healed and returns.

The fact is anyone of these, or a combination of the natural strategies mentioned above have been proven to work time and time again. The question is which of these methods makes more sense and what would you rather try?

Brenda Skidmore has spent the last three years researching natural health care alternatives. She can attest to the many benefits of natural practical cures and preventive strategies for human health. Along with the many medical professionals whose published works she has studied. It is her sincere desire to bring forth this knowledge for the betterment of mankind. Ways to Improve Brain Power : Brain Power

Article by Ewin Chia

To improve brain power, we must have a general understanding of how our brains work. Our brains are built for novelty. Learning new skills and information is actually fun for our brains. But once the novelty of a certain stimulus becomes familiar, we tend to become bored and treat we begin to treat that a certain stimulus as a routine. This can be explained by a learning pattern that we humans learned long ago through habituation. For our complex minds, once a certain activity becomes a regiment, it simply isn’t fun anymore.

When learning new tasks, our brain rewards us for a job well done by releasing endorphins. The release of these chemicals gives us a sense of well being. Simply put, endorphins are the chemicals that our brains produce to make us happy. Endorphins are released when we are exercising. This means that taking up a new sport will not only be good for you physically, it is also good for you mentally. For us to improve brain power, our minds have to be clear so that we are able to process information better, and endorphins bring about this clarity by relaxing us. Games and sports serve not only as a stimulus for the body, but for the mind as well, because most of these activities require strategy and thinking.

As with most of our bodily functions, if we fail to utilize it, they deteriorate and go into atrophy. Same goes with our minds. If you don’t use it, you lose it. One such sport that requires a great deal from both mind and body is surfing. It not only tones your body and strengthens your muscles it forces you to react to the right things at the right time. If you fail to do so, crashing into the water will help you remember. But the thrill of riding a wave releases loads of endorphins, which makes the hundreds of hours of effort physically and mentally, all worthwhile. If being a sporty person doesn’t fit your personality, there’s no need to worry. By simply doing an activity that requires your intellect, you are already giving your brain a workout. Basically all activities affect your brain, one way or another. It is important to know which ones are beneficial, and which ones are not. Solving puzzles and reading books are some of the things that involve our brains actively. It is important for our brains to be continually challenged, otherwise we start to become dull-witted, passive thinkers.

An example of a passive activity is watching television. Although watching TV will not decrease your intellectual capacity, the things that we learn from it come in the form of information bombardment. You only retain certain types of information when watching TV. Presently, most television programs are for entertainment purposes only. You’ll still learn something, but waste a great deal of time in the process. To improve brain power, is much like the same for almost any other skill. We need lots of time and effort in order for us to become better at it.

5 Ways to Amp Up Your Brain Power : Brain Power

Article by Gregory Frost

The first way that you are going to amp up your own brain power is to actually try and see whether or not you can reduce the stress in your life, and if you are in a high stress job or in a high stress situation, you need to be able to control your own breathing or stress levels, and there are certain exercises that you can use to do this of course. They can range from things like yoga, to stretching to even breathing techniques that you can master to actually help you to relax and remove the stress from your life.

The next thing you can do is to gain some perspective in your life and make sure that you are doing brain healthy things throughout the day. One thing that you need to know is that the more you use your brain and extend it on a daily basis, the more exercise that it gets and this is what you really need to do to be able to make it more powerful. This of course, uses the same analogy as the muscle exercise, the more you use a muscle, the more you would be able to see its own development and growth and the more results that you are going to be able to get.

The third thing that you need to be able to do is to actually try and get some brain food in you and some high levels of vitamisation is very important when it comes to ensuring that your brain has enough nutrients in it. There are some basic brain foods and this can include things like amino acids and the protein family, vitamins B and complexes all across the board, and if you need more information on this, you can look it up on the internet.

The other thing you can do is to actually try and read more. They say that reading is the best way to ensure that you are constantly testing your brain, and this can actually amp up your brain power. This is quite different from doing mental exercises in the sense that what you need to do may include things like just sitting down and reading for a short while, and this is what you really need to inculcate into your whole concept. Read as much as you can and try and depend less on the television for information.

The last thing that you can do is to take advantage of existing technology like the whole concept of the subliminal software and the brainwave entrainment technology, that has penetrated the consumer market and has made it much easier for people to actually get their hands on some really revolutionary technology on the market, and from there, actually make something of themselves. If you need to know more information on how this technology can actually help you to increase and boost your own brain power, what is going to happen is that you will find plenty of useful things on the net.

Article by Greg Frost

Toboost your brain power there are various methods like meditation, which is a stress buster and hence leads to better brain functioning. Deep breathing is another way as it leads to more inflow of oxygen in the body. More oxygen makes the brain work and think well. You can also make drawings using colored pencils, which would give you a powerful brain that can reason or think better. Drawings are known to encourage and develop the right hemisphere of a human brain leading to more creativity.

Next, reduce the amount the junk food you consume as junk food reduces the body energy and a diet minus a lot of junk food would give you a brain chemistry that will be more focused and calm. Apart from this, fish oil, red wine, and multi vitamins are very beneficial for the brain. One can also listen to music (especially classical which makes the left hemisphere active and help people write better). Watch less television as excess changes the functioning of brain. Entering a debate/discussion or asking questions gives raise more thinking, new ideas and thoughts and in turn it has been found to be very helpful. Brain power is exploited in the future in place of the drugs to achieve these desired results like increasing attention, and inducing people in sleeping, and helping to become alert. The brain entrainment is used to exploit brainpower as well as increase level of the creativity, eliminating stress as well as insomnia, increasing awareness & creating lucid dreams and inducing deep relaxation. The addictions are all across the place & there has been talk that to be lazy is as well addiction. Anything, which represents the weakness in mind, is named addiction, as we are not able to ourselves beyond the point to be slaves to needs as well as cravings. We know that there is problem there however we also continue to replicate actions, which in end of a day, can just lead to downfall of success as well as even likely lead us to a lot of problems (such as health).

One of technologies applied in brain entrainment that includes use of the binaural beats where the brainwave frequency patterns are used to control mind. Mind follows frequency of induced tone after a few periods to achieve end result that is favored by brainwave frequency like achieved. Knowledge on brainwave frequency will help the people to understand the brainwave entrainment better. Additionally, this is applied at your home & includes free prescription that is achieved personally instead of going for drug & other things of the high expense & disruptive in the nature. The music is applied as the means of relaxation as well as it is used to allow the people for forgetting the worries as well as stress. 8 Simple Ways To Boost Your Brain Power : Brain Power

Article by Trevor Johnson

There are lots of different ways to increase your brain power. Your brain is like any other “muscle” in your body and grows stronger the more it is used. Here are some that you can start using immediately to boost the power of your brain:

1. Use your brain more (duh!) Sounds easy. But how many times do you reach for the keyboard to search for something you already know but can’t be bothered to remember? How many times do you use a calculator, even for really simple calculations, rather than mental arithmetic? Set yourself a goal to complete a new puzzle each day. Whether it’s a crossword, Sudoku, a brainteaser or whatever.

2. Think young Play with thinking like a child, even if only occasionally. Question everything. Just keep asking “why” is a good way to do this. As soon as you’ve answered a question once, ask why again. And again. And again. This is actually a very useful way of brainstorming yourself. And by the way, “because that’s the way I’ve always done it” doesn’t count as an answer!

3. Jot down your new ideas So often, we come up with new ideas but put them in the “impossible” container in our brain. Jot them down on paper and go back through your list on a regular basis. Chances are that you’ll notice a couple themes evolving. They’re your minds way of telling you that you need to do something. Follow up on the ideas you most like.

4. Get creative Especially if you are always working on non-creative ideas. Getting creative forces your brain to use different parts of itself and will broaden your horizons.

5. Take supplements Certain supplements help keep our brains active. These include Ginko Biloba and Omega 3 fatty acids. You probably aren’t getting these through your normal diet, so take a trip to your local health food store (or Amazon for that matter) and get some good supplements to get your brain moving again.

6. Relax OK. How can relaxation stimulate your brain? Quite easily, actually. Too often in our hectic lives we are constantly on the move, busy busy busy. Give yourself some time to relax and chill. You can do this with a novel, your favorite music, exercise, anything that you know will relax you. Learning to relax more will reduce any tension that’s built up in your body. In turn, this will free up your brain for other tasks.

7. Test yourself See whether you can remember what you ate for dinner yesterday, then a week ago, then a month ago. Don’t limit yourself to food. Use events and names and facts and figures. Anything that will cause your brain to delve deep to find the answer. Don’t beat yourself up if you can’t instantly remember everything. Just go with it and start improving your memory power.

8. Play a game There are lots of new video games coming out that are designed specifically to boost your brain power. Play one or two of these to see which you get on with best and then make a habit of playing them regularly.

Get more ideas on how to increase your brain power and rediscover the fun of using your brain more.

In response to “how to improve memory,” many dismiss the matter by saying that you cannot teach new tricks to an old dog. However, for humans, this does not apply. Our brain displays neuroplasticity, which makes it stupendously capable to learn, alter, and adapt at any age. Regarding recalling and learning, the human brain has the power to reshape itself. You can make the most of your brain’s amazing capability to improve your memory and your learning ability.

6 Scientific Ways To Improve Memory

* Learn to concentrate. For your brain to shift information from short term memory to long term one, you need to give complete attention to whatever you wish to remember. Do away with distractions and focus on feeding your brain.

* Schedule short, but regular, study sessions. It has been proved by neurosurgeons that human brain can concentrate its best in the first 60 minutes of study session. After that, its activeness starts weaning. So, the first hour of your study is crucial and you can absorb the maximum information and retain it.

* Make groups of study material. Put similar concepts together. Make notes in your own handwriting. Do not ask somebody else to write for you, you’d never get the answer to “how to improve memory.” Remember, your brain assimilates data in clusters. Also, when you pen down something, it kind of gets engraved in your memory, as compared to when you simply hear it.

* Teach the concepts to another person. Teaching is a kind of learning. When you teach others, you are actually revising your own knowledge. Your brain remains in active mode. It is memory training for your brain.

* Visualize things to remember better. The human brain catches visuals more efficiently. Illustrations, diagrams, graphs, and images help you learn better. You can create your own diagrams and visual aids to engrave information in your brain. Soon you’d realize that your memory is getting better and you would no longer ask about “how to improve memory.”

* For effective memory management, it’s good to understand things before memorizing them. Simply cramming is a bad idea. For example, when learning definitions, try to go into the details of the term and grasp its meaning. You can then easily recall the definition.

The Mnemonic Technique

Mnemonic technique is one of the most effective ways to remember things, especially in case of remembering long lists. This method of how to improve memory associates a word with something familiar or bizarre. The latter works better because we are likelier to remember weird things than common ones. For example, you need to remember a list of groceries that contain milk, eggs, can of frozen peas, protein shakes, broccoli, box of cookies, and batteries. Instead of cramming each item (and risking forgetting a few), create a bizarre connection.

How about this: The cat ate all the EGGS and gulped the PROTEIN SHAKES, which made it to shake so vigorously that it fell in the MILK, which was cold due to FROZEN PEAS; now, the cat needed BATTERIES to heat its body so that it could grab the BOX OF COOKIES, as it hated BROCCOLI! Try forgetting this! With this technique in hand, you’d never ask “how to improve memory.”

Here is a memory tip! Remember something by categorizing it in your mind. This will make recall much easier! As an example, if you are going to go food shopping; remember meat and that will remind you that you need chicken, beef and pork.

A great tip to help improve your memory is to get more exercise. Aerobic exercises are great because they pump more blood throughout your body and this supplies your brain with more oxygen. Try and work out at least 3 times, preferably 5 times, a week to gain the most benefits.

A useful memory tip for anyone needing to recall particular types of information, is to work on minimizing distractions in your surroundings. Competing stimuli can actually impede recollection and prevent easy access to stored information. By seeking peace and quiet, it will be easier to retrieve the desired data from your mind.

A great tip that can help you improve your memory is to make sure youre getting enough healthy fats in your diet that contain omega-3s. These healthy fats are great because they support brain health. You can find omega-3s in salmon, flaxseed, or you can just take a fish oil supplement.

Utilize all of your senses. You may have already heard that smell is a powerful sense in relation to your memory. This is true. When trying to recall something, dont just look for a picture of it in your mind. Try to remember how it smelled or felt or even tasted.

When trying to commit a large amount of information to memory, having several shorter study sessions is significantly better than having one long study session. The reason for this is that it takes several separate instances of reviewing the material in order to commit the material to long term memory. Holding the information in long term memory will allow you to more readily recall the information than if it was stored in short term memory.

If you find that your memory has deteriorated drastically in a short period of time, it is important that you see your doctor right away. Sudden memory loss could be a sign of a more serious medical condition, such as Dementia or Alzheimers Disease, which can effect people of all ages.

Burning dinners, leaving the iron on, forgetting items at the store, and forgetting important dates can be extremely frustrating. Give the pointers from this article a try; what have you got to lose?

Natural Ways to Reduce Memory Loss and Improve Your Memory Skills : Memory Exercises

Article by Valerie Balandra

Do you occasionally have one of those “senior moments” where you walk into a room and then totally blank out on why you went in there, or scramble mentally to remember the name of a person to whom you were just introduced? These small memory lapses happen to everyone – they are simply part of the brain’s constant efforts to sort out, prioritize and file away the information it is constantly receiving.

Minor forgetfulness is a normal part of getting older and generally does not affect your life in any significant way. On the other hand, if lapses in memory start to get in the way of your ability to function normally, there may be some cause for concern. Getting lost in a familiar place or repeating the same sentence several times in a single conversation should raise a red flag signaling that there may be a more serious problem.

However, if you believe you are experiencing significant memory loss, you should not automatically assume that you are in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease.

Memory is a complex process involving many different areas of the brain, and there are many different causes of memory loss. Most of these are treatable, and even reversible. It is important to remember that in large part, maintaining healthy brain function is under your own control.

Memory loss can be caused by any of the following conditions:

* Stress, Depression, AnxietyThese common psychological disorders may damage the neural pathways in the affected areas of the brain, leading to confusion and a decreased ability to concentrate.

* Stroke Stroke can cause damage to many different areas of the brain, affecting the ability to process and recall memories.

* Head InjuriesConcussion and other head injuries can cause temporary memory loss.

* Impaired Thyroid FunctionHypo- and hyperthyroidism create hormonal imbalances which may affect memory.

* MedicationsCertain medications can cause dementia-like symptoms. Even some topical analgesics used for arthritis pain can cause memory lapses if the liver is not functioning properly and cannot flush these chemicals out of the body quickly enough.

* Environmental ToxinsCarbon monoxide, heavy metals such as lead and mercury, pesticides, and even the chemicals in certain hobby items can interfere with memory and concentration.

* MenopauseThe hormonal changes which occur during menopause can create temporary disconnects in memory recall.

* Dietary DeficienciesInsufficient levels of the vitamins B1 and B12 may impair cognitive ability.

* Excessive Alcohol Consumption and Drug UseAlcohol and recreational drugs deplete vitamin B1 levels, affecting cognition and memory.

* Natural AgingAging can cause brain function to slow down somewhat. Simply taking a bit longer to call up a memory may be misinterpreted as memory loss.

* Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI)MCI may be diagnosed when memory loss moves beyond minor gaffs to more significant lapses like forgetting the names of your grandkids or getting lost in a familiar location. MCI can be a precursor of Azheimer’s disease, but it does not always lead to dementia. While it can be frightening and sometimes disruptive, most seniors with MCI are able to live more-or-less normal lives.

* Alzheimer’s DiseaseAD is the most common form of dementia. It is degenerative disease caused by the formation of protein deposits in the brain.

* Other Types of DementiaSenile dementia can have numerous causes, but the results are generally similar. Patients tend to display inappropriate social behavior, emotional disturbance, loss of communication skills, and a deteriorating ability to make judgments. Dementia can result from vascular blockages, Parkinson’s disease, and Huntington’s disease.

Now for the good news. Amidst all these threats to long-term mental agility, there are plenty of things you can do to improve your cognition and retain your memory skills into your later years. The benefits of these exercises are enormous, both for your mental and your physical well-being.

* DetoxA detoxification program is highly effective in flushing toxins from the body and improving liver function, ensuring that the body can continue to cleanse itself of harmful chemicals.

* Memory exercises – crossword puzzles, Sudoku, reading, writing, and specifically designed memory games all help to keep neural pathways humming along.

* Exercise is vital for a healthy mind and body. Regular physical activity improves blood flow to the brain and reduces the risk of memory loss.

* Diets rich in whole grains, lean proteins, and fresh organic fruits and vegetables give you the nutrients you need while avoiding toxins from pesticides and synthetic fertilizers.

* Memory supplements are very useful in enhancing memory, even reversing memory loss in many cases. Some effective memory supplements:

– Gingko Biloba;- Ginseng;- Acetyl-L-carnitine;- Omega-3 fatty acids;- Vinpocetine, from the periwinkle plant;- Huperzine A (Chinese club moss);- Phosphatyl choline, found in egg yolks and soy;- Pirecetam, a synthetic memory enhancer.

By taking control now, you are giving yourself every chance at a healthy, fulfilling life. No matter what your age, you will benefit from some simple lifestyle choices and memory enhancing techniques.
