Tip 4. Decide on some metric that tells you whether you are on the right track with the entrainment. Say, if overcoming depression is the goal, then note your state of mind before the start of this “project”, and note also the state of mind you think you should have, in order to announce to yourself that the “project” has been successful.

Tip 5. Set a particular time and place for the entrainment session. Try to build the session into your daily schedule, and at such a time when other commitments and concerns won’t demand attention.

Tip 6. Before sitting for the entrainment session, spend about a minute or two in quiet reflection on the purpose of your session. What is the end result that you wish to achieve as a result of you entraining your brain thus? This focus prepares your mind to be receptive to the action taking place in your brain, and to align itself to your true desires so that they can manifest in your real life.

Tip 7. While the session is on, and if you are awake, silently contemplate on the end result. Since it is possible that the frequency at which you are entraining may lead to multiple results, your visualizing what you wish to achieve helps the mind to drive the brain and the entire body system towards this visualization.

And it so happens that – as the brain happens to be the coordination center for all action that takes place in your body, its “hands” are always full. The brain certainly doesn’t have the time to look into your particular problem for all day long, it has other things to do! But by forcing it to “dance to your tune” at only one frequency all the while, other activities get processed at a lower priority. You still live! But you get up groggy and “out of balance”…

Tip 9. Maintain a journal of your experience. Log all your feelings and experiences in the journal. This helps you to center yourself, and keep track of things in a more organized way. A student of mine who maintained such a journal could objectively see where she had come from, how far she had traveled, and where she was going, on her journey towards a stress-free life.

Since it is quite easy to produce binaural-beat CDs and entrainment softwares, the market is flooded with fly-by-night operators who use hi-falutin words of science, along with graphs and gimmickry to tout their wares. Beware! It is your brain that we are talking about, and you need to be careful before picking up just any CD from any site that you happen to stumble onto. Even if they offer it to you for free, or even if they pay you money along with the CD!

Science has not yet reached the stage where a website can remotely scan your brain and detect which frequency will be the best for you, and automatically direct you to the page where, for a price, you can download the desired entrainment session on your desktop. Till that stage is reached, do this: Research. And follow the tips above.

Brainwave Entrainment has been becoming more and more popular as a method to alter states of consciousness and change lives. Many are using it to achieve certain mental states that correspond to certain behaviours. Binaural beats, monaural beats and isochronic tones are the sources of sound used in brainwave entrainment.

With the increasing popularity, some have asked: “Ïs it natural (and therefore safe) to change your inner brainwave frequencies using an input from the outside?”

Before I attempt to answer this question and set your mind at ease, let’s examine what is brainwave entrainment or brainwave synchronisation is based on.

The Nature of Brainwave Entrainment

Brainwave entrainment is based on a natural behaviour of the brain: the tendency of the brain to synchronise its dominant frequency with the frequency of an external stimulus. There’s even a term for this: Frequency Following Response.

For example, when you hear a disco beat, your body tends to move naturally to it. Another instance of this is when the gently dancing flame of a candle evokes in you a sense of peace and inner calmness.

What brainwave entrainment does is to use a more systematic way to sync your brain. Science and technology are once again put at your service, in this case to create the most optimal ways to change your brain frequency quickly. And decades of research have found that binaural beats, monaural beats and isochronic tones are by far the most efficient ways to bring about this brain synchronisation.

In fact, brainwave synchronisation has a precursor in the natural meditation techniques practised by monks. The objective is the same: to achieve a stillness of mind, a deep inner peace. Feel the Pulses of Your Neurons

There is another natural behavioural characteristic of the brain that brainwave entrainment is based on: the electrical activity generated by its 10 billion neurons. These electrical pulses form brain waves with different frequencies which can be measured using an Electrocardiogram (EEG).

There are four categories of brainwaves ranging from the most active to the most passive states of mind. They are Beta, Alpha, Theta and Delta.

Beta waves are the most active brainwaves with frequencies from 13 to 40Hz. They are activated when your mind is actively engaged and alert. They are most conducive to activities requiring concentration.

Alpha waves have slower frequencies of between 8 to 12 Hz.  In this state, you’re relaxed and your mind tends to drift. Your mind is relaxed yet aware and imagination and intuitive thinking come naturally.

Theta waves have an even lower frequency of 4 to 8 Hz.  They produce a deeper level of relaxation and meditation. In this state, you are daydreaming, feeling sleepy, or in the first stages of sleep.

Right at the bottom are delta waves with frequencies of below 4Hz. That’s the state when you go into a deep, dreamless sleep and wake up totally rejuvenated.

1. Do a regular exercise routine some simple exercises like a short walk or jog. This will help to keep the body physically fit and energetic. What these easy work-outs do is to activate the release of neurochemicals that are known as endorphins. These chemicals are what makes us feel happy, and by feeling happier, a more constructive effect on the brain can be seen.

You should also try to take a ten-minute power nap during the day to help boost your brain power. Remember never deny yourself sleep you will soon realize that your brain functions better with the right amount of sleep.

6. Because of the complexities of the modern world, the brain gets worn out just as much as the body. Thus, you should take the time to relax and cleanse the mind of the fears and stresses that might overwhelm it. Vitamin D

Vitamin D has had an increased amount of attention in the media over the past few weeks, due to its importance in the growth and development of our muscles and bones. Doctors have been looking at its role in proper functioning in the immune system, especially in new born babies.

Vitamin D has several important functions, it helps regulate the amount of calcium and phosphate in the body. These substances are needed to keep bones and teeth healthy. Experts have suggested that due to lack of Vitamin D throughout pregnancy new born babies are being born with bone deficiency’s in particular Rickets. Rickets is a childhood bone disorder where bone soften and become prone to fractures and deformity. Although the main cause of Rickets is a lack of Vitamin D, a lack of calcium in ones diet is another.

Recent studies have shown that 1 in 4 toddlers are found to be lacking in vitamin D, and even more worryingly senior paediatric pathologists have discovered vitamin D deficiency in a significant number of children who have died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. A study conducted by Dr Cohen found that 75% of babies who had died of natural causes were deficient in Vitamin D.

There are also fears such deficiencies may have lead to children being taken away from their parents, when it is in fact rickets that are responsible for the deaths and injuries that are thought to be suspicious. In 2009 rickets were discovered by Dr Schoenberg, in a 4 month old baby whose parents had been accused of shaking him to death.

Although most people get enough Vitamin D from sunlight and food the Department of Health recommends all pregnant and breastfeeding women, children aged six months to five years and people aged 65 and over should take daily vitamin D supplements.

It is not essential that you need Vitamin D in your diet every day, because any of the vitamin your body does not need immediately is stored for future use. However The Department of Health advises those who take Vitamin D supplements can safely take up to 25 micrograms (0.25mg) a day.

Many Vitamin D supplements are already in pregnancy tablets such as, the Viridian Pregnancy Complex which contains Vitamin D2 (Ergocalicferol) which is plant derived.

You’ve no doubt imagined hitting the jackpot. The trouble is, most games give you extremely low odds of winning. The slots are unimaginably low, and Roulette is a joke—throwing good money after bad.

Instead, think of a game where you have some control of the odds, where your skills can make a difference. There’s a reason why expert gamblers never look twice at the slots. At blackjack, you, too, can develop your ability to concentrate and remember the cards. You can be a winner.

To start competing with expert gamblers, you need to start programming your memory. That’s right, playing cards is a memory game. Getting ready to compete is a two-part program. First it takes shaping up your brain for the fight, and second, learning the memory techniques used in playing cards.

Put Your Brain in Training for Cards

Every true athlete knows they have two jobs. One is to get their body in shape and the other is to learn the skills of their sport.

To get the body in shape you can bet they don’t sit around watching TV and ordering pizza for lunch. They get up early, run a few miles, work out at the gym, and practice their unique skills. They follow a careful diet, making sure they get a variety of nutrients and the right amount of calories.

You may be surprised to know that the human memory works much the same way. The brain works best when it’s given plenty of mental workouts, and correct nutrients. When the brain is “in shape,” the memory performs with impressive rigor. Thus, “brain training” will help you with remembering cards.

For starters, put your brain on a regular program of puzzles and crosswords. As often as you can do a puzzle, do it. The harder the better. Take on the Sunday New York Times puzzle, or a deadly level Sudoku. Check out the new games and pick the challenging ones. The harder that brain works, the better it gets. And, the better your memory function becomes– more alert and more aware, and more in command of the information you’re processing. At the card table, the more likely you’ll remember cards played and cards to come.

As for food, you may be surprised. Keep blueberries on your cereal. Research shows that these blue morsels increase your concentration levels and mental alertness. Another thing to throw on your cereal is sunflower seeds and nuts. They are also super foods that improve brain health. And the old saw about fish being brain food is true. The omega 3 fatty acids in fish—especially fish like salmon—promote brain health. So keep your diet “card-friendly” with blueberries, nuts, and fish.
