Photographic Memory : How to Keep Your Mind Sharp, Improve Your Memory and IQ, Impress Others, and Make More Money

Article by David Maillie

Everyone has seen or heard of someone with a photographic memory. We have also seen or know people afflicted with alzheimers, dementia, and low IQ’s. Why do some people have such memory power and others either never have it or are stripped of it by disease and neglect.

Studies have shown that 50% of brain power and function is genetic, and 50% is environment derived. What that means is that, yes, there are some that are born better off than others – Just like some people are born with more wealth than the rest of us (Paris Hilton, Martin Sheen, etc…), but for every one inherently better off rich kid (spoiled brat) there are 3 or more selfstarters that have equaled or surpassed them with hard work. This is the same with inherent genius. This means that 50% of your brain power is a direct result of its environment – what it is exposed to, the activity it receives, and can be seriously developed to even surpass the born super geniuses.

The brain is very similar to a muscle. We have all heard of stories of the underdog in sports. Someone whom has overcome great difficulty, diseases like cancer (Lance Armstrong), etc… and risen to be the best – far exceeding people with better genetics, better training, etc… The brain is no different. The number one thing to increase your brain’s thinking power is activity. Just like muscles it needs to be exercised and stretched out.

Dr’s know that the way to avoid mental decline is to constantly expose the brain to new activities. Keep it active. Studies have shown that the harder you work your brain the more it will improve. It has actually been proven that those who work their minds the hardest have actually shown definite and marked improvement in scores on various intelligence tests. It has also been proven that stagnation will cause a marked decline on those same tests. This same activity has even been proved to help those whose minds have already started to decline – even in alzheimers patients.

Now, just like the body has many different muscles, the brain has numerous functions and each has its own area or region. This is why there is autism and savants like Rainman. Gentics just like the environment can lead to gross overdevelpment of a region and underdevelopment of others (autism). Just like body builders wouldn’t want to just work on their chest muscles, you want to try and expand your whole range of thought for a more well rounded brain. There are many different areas of brain thought like short term and long term memory, spatial perception, logic, some even say there is an unknown area that has been related to psychics and communication with the unknown (studies have actually shown that there is an area of the mind unlinked with any known thought processes that is highly developed (extensive increases in neuropathways and blood flow) that is only seen in psychic and paranormal activities – interesting!

We will not go into how to exercise each of the areas of the brain as there are numerous books on this (a great one is by Harry Lorraine – The Memory Book. Just remember crossword puzzles, college and adult education classes, reading – especially different subject matter, brainstorming, etc… will all help you develope your mind and reach your peak mental fitness and potential. I just want you to realize how important it is to keep your mind active and sharp. This mental exercise will inherently improve your IQ, bolster your confidence, make you and your life more interesting, earn you more friends, and make you more money for all these same reasons, regardless your profession – what have you got to lose. Maybe through brainstorming and streching the limits of your mind you will invent new ideas, products, or maybe even start your own business. This is how we invented our patented headlight cleaner and restorer, formed a biochemical company, and became the number one supplier of TCA peel skin peels in the world. Start exercising your brain today – you never know where it may take you!

We were all born with a photographic memory. We never lose it. We have just lost the ability to USE it. Actually, more correctly, we’ve misplaced the access to it.

You learned phenomenal things as a small child – languages, social skills, etc. THEN, you went to school to learn a superior way to learn, or so we are led to believe. Statistics show that once we enter school, based on the rote – memory system of learning, learning slows down from that point on.

A renegade! Some of those renegades are the same people that have carried over their photographic memory as an adult.

Photographic Memory : How to Stop Memory Loss

Article by Kerry Grinkmeyer

Memory is related to individual intelligence. Intelligence is our ability to process information placed before us, come to a conclusion and make a decision based on our conclusions. In order to process information you must recall both long term and short term memory.

The average person will test out with an IQ score of 100. The most intellectual will achieve a score of 180 to 190; few have ever exceeded these numbers. As your memory deteriorates your scores will go down as well.

Over the past 100 years, IQ scores have increased at an average rate of three IQ points per decade in most parts of the world. This has been explained by better nutrition, smaller families, better education, and heredity. It is believed that 50% to 80% of a childs intelligence is attributable to the childs parents and the genes that they passed on to the child. Studies of twins raised apart substantiate these beliefs. It had been widely believed that through education, we can improve upon our intelligence, but this is often not the case. Vocabulary size, for example, is more effected by heredity than by environment even though every word that one knows has to be learned. In our society words are readily available to everyone and the number of words that we learn has more to do with our genetic predisposition to learn than the vocabulary of the people around us.

A recent study, April 2008, at the University of Michigan and Bern suggests that intelligence and thus memory can be marginally altered and changed over time through the use of challenging activities thus producing changes in gene expression patterns of the brain. This then leads to the conclusion that the brain is similar in many respects to the muscles of our body; exercise and good diet will maintain and improve both intelligence and memory. As we age one of the first parts of our brain function that we experience difficulty with is our memory. Studies have shown that the deterioration of memory can be curbed through mind exercise. One of the leading mind exercise programs is The Zox Training System; a ten minute per day brain exercise program that develops the part of your brain that sits ideal in most people. It unlocks built-in but seldom taped into Photographic Memory, increases your reading speed and your long tern memory plus reduces stress and improves overall efficiency.

The first step in any exercise program, whether body or mind, is to benchmark your current condition. For mind benchmarking I recommend, SmartestofUS.com, an online website that administers a genuine IQ test with no hooks attached. It’s also a good way to measure your progress.

Photographic Memory : How to Improve Your Memory For ICSE Exam:

Article by Subarna Ghoshal

There are some persons, usually very rare, who have photographic memory i.e. eidetic memory; the rest rely on mnemonic devices. But everyone can take steps to improve their memory, and with the passage of time and practice most people can gain the ability to memorize seemingly impossible amounts of information and do well in ICSE.This article can help you to1. First of all you have to convince yourself that you do have a good memory that will improve. Most of us get stuck here and convince ourselves that our memory is bad, and it effects in the ICSE exam, that we are just not good with names that numbers just slip out of our minds for some reason. But should you do? You have to erase those thoughts from your mind and vow to improve your memory for your ICSEexam.

2. Exercise your brain regularly. Keep your brain active and improve its physiological functioning before your final ICSE exam.

3. Regular exercise improves circulation and efficiency throughout the body, including in the brain. It can help the students for their ICSE and ward off the memory loss that comes with aging. Exercise also makes you more alert and relaxed. Thus exercise can improve your memory uptake and the performance in ICSE will improve.

4. Reduce mental stress. Mental stress during ICSEexam can make remembering much more difficult. After prolonged stress the brain may be damaged. Chronic stress will affect your health and your memory. It will damage the brain and finally affect your ICSE exam. So the best option is to learn to control stress. Eat well and eat right. During the ICSE exam a healthy diet, contributes to a healthy brain.

5.There are a lot of herbal supplements on the market that claim to improve memory in the exams such as ICSE, but none have yet been shown to be effective in clinical tests (although small studies have shown some promising results for ginkgo biloba and phosphatidylserine). A healthy diet, however, contributes to a healthy brain, and foods containing antioxidants-broccoli, blueberries, spinach, and berries, for example-and Omega-3 fatty acids appear to promote healthy brain functioning. Feed your brain with such supplements as Thiamine, Vitamin E, Niacin and Vitamin B-6. Grazing, eating 5 or 6 small meals throughout the day instead of 3 large meals, also seems to improve mental functioning (including memory) by limiting dips in blood sugar, which may negatively affect the brain.
