Did you know that maintaining the memory, in a sound state, is essential to keeping the brain healthy as well? Most often, your activities, to a great extent, rest on an assortment of information you recover from your memory bank. This information can be either short-term memory (which is a holding a small amount of information in mind like: remembering particular tasks that you have to do) or long-term memory (which is the ability to store information indefinitely so that you can use it again at a later date). While long-term memory comes without too much effort when you need it, short-term memory necessitates remembering information from the collection of things stored in your memory. This is why you must keep your memory in an excellent state so that you can accomplish productivity in your everyday activities.

The following are five tips for memory improvement:

1. You must always concentrate your attention on the required data that you want to remember. Even with interruptions around you, stay concentrated on what you are doing. The more you concentrated: the better the chances of remembering the data you want to remember.

2. Apply the best sense or senses when collecting data. This is what is called acuity in sensing your surroundings. For example, be attentive to the colours and specifics of a picture, or the specific sound or smell of what you want to remember. All your bodily senses are used to gather data depending on the situation at hand. While your sense of vision might be the most applied in assembling data, your senses of hearing, smell, taste, and touch are similarly significant and useful in recalling all kinds of things.

3. If you think that the material you are about to remember is going to be a little difficult to recollect then the best thing to do then, is to write it down. This can be useful in assembling very long and boring information, things like lecture notes, or a personal interview.

4. Remember to make sure that you have plenty of rest and sleep. You need it to keep you invigorated from the wearisome demand of work. So take time out to relax. Steer clear from stress and worry as much as possible. Also sidestep the tendency of saying to yourself, “I might forget it” because you’re a lot more likely to if you constantly say that phrase to yourself because this only increases your anxiety level.

5. As the body grows old, memory starts to diminish: but a robust memory will certainly improve the quality of your life. You can greatly strengthen the quality of your memory by constantly training your memory through reading and further cognitive undertakings like getting into the practise of deciphering crossword puzzles, or doing mental arithmetic The more you do these activities, the better memory retention is improved. Short Term Memory : Five Ways to Improve Memory Free of Complexities

It doesn’t matter if you’re just afraid of losing your memory with age or are cramming for a big test tomorrow – you just want to improve your memory without having to resort to daily detailed mind exercises. This could be because you just want relatively simple ways to begin improving your memory performance.

Aside from regular mental exercises such as crossword puzzles (or any puzzle, really) and quizzes, here are some basic activities and habits you can pick up to answer your questions on mental ability and almost effortlessly Improve your Memory for Free.

1. Pay attention. This is one of those things that are easier said than done but here’s the thing: All the information we gather goes through our sensory memory first before getting stored into the short-term memory and later the long-term memory. The brain processes information through selective attention. This means that the brain chooses only the information it deems are important based on the feedback it gets from your senses. Logically speaking, if you focus your senses (a.k.a. your attention) on a specific information source, you are more likely able to transfer the information to your short-term memory – and it only takes about eight seconds to do so. If you are having trouble focusing your attention, it is advisable to seek a quiet place to concentrate.

2. Learn and express yourself. Paint. Dance. Teach. Take up another degree. Learn a new skill. Take up a hobby. Any of these can improve memory free of stress. These will not only let you loosen up and have fun but also increases brain activity and maintains it on a regular basis. Studies show that this kind of mental stimulation reduces the risk for dementia.3. Write. These need not be long diary entries or a winning novel. Just write. Write down your appointments or to-do list and stick them somewhere easy to see like the fridge, your corkboard or even on your office desk. Writing these down helps create imagery which you can use to associate with the words that form your memory. Besides, planners and lists also help you keep track of things that you might not deem as important, are only temporary, or take some time to get used to (like the week’s menu or shopping list, appointments, or birthdays). This practice also lowers your risk for Alzheimer’s disease as writing and packing your ideas in written sentences has always been an indicator of one’s vulnerability for the disease.4. Interact with people. Interaction is proven beneficial as it decreases the risk for mental decline. Also, interaction can trigger recollection of some memories which in turn can trigger other memories. Reminiscing old memories with family or friends can also lead to them remembering other long-forgotten moments; it’s a good way to support each other. Sharing these memories and even facts also fixes the information in your memory.

5. Get enough rest or take a nap. Resting refreshes the mind for another round of information to take in. Naps during the day, however, help you retain the information you have taken earlier since long-term memories are formed during these few minutes of sleep. On the other hand, lack of rest may lead to exhaustion and confusion.

Now these practices will form habits that would strengthen your memory performance and improve memory free of difficulties. However, keep in mind that these are supplements to having a set way or technique of remembering things more effectively.

Natural Health Therapies and Cancer – Part Five : Sonic Vitamins

This article is the fifth and final installment of a series on Natural Health Therapies and Cancer. The material presented is meant to inform you of complementary cancer therapies that are available in the medical community. These therapies are to be used in cooperation with other cancer treatment methods. They are not meant to replace your physician’s care.

So far, we have discussed the basics of cancer, looked at a list of causes, reviewed the various types and stages of cancer, and examined the use of nutrition and herbal supplements as forms of cancer therapy. We have also talked about various physical support therapies and their benefits for individuals with cancer. In this article, we will investigate the use of Energy Support Therapies for cancer. These methods include Electrodermal Screening, Magnetic Therapy, and Light Therapy.

‘Energy Medicine’ refers to any therapies or testing that use an energy field such as electrical, magnetic, sonic, microwave, infrared, or acoustic energy. We’ve all been exposed to energy medicine before. EKGs for heart activity, EMGs for muscle tests, EEGs for brain waves, and MRIs for scanning body parts are all examples of energy medicine techniques.

The basic principle in energy medicine is that a disease will show an energy change before it becomes a full-blown illness. The energy flow is based on acupuncture meridians known for thousands of years. These meridians are pathways for energy flow. The concept of energy flow in the meridians is similar to the flow of blood in the arteries and veins in our circulatory system. Studies done in Germany and at Stanford University verified that there is electrical conduction through the acupuncture meridians, that the energy changes at the traditional acupuncture points, and that the energy changes when health is poor.

Electrodermal Screening Testing the skin surface to determine if there are any imbalances in the energy flow is called electrodermal screening. It is done by touching a small probe to certain points on the hands and feet, which generates information on a computer. A point value on a scale of 0-100 is assigned to the various readings. Scores in the 45-55 range are considered normal. Readings below 45 indicate organ degeneration while scores above 55 suggest organ inflammation. Following the electrodermal screening, therapies are given according to the scores displayed at each of the various test sites.

Magnetic TherapyWe are exposed to magnetic energy every day. Some is naturally generated by our body, by solar flares, by changes in the weather, and by the earth itself. Common electrical devices like radios, televisions, computers, microwave ovens, power wheelchairs, and commercial power lines also produce magnetic fields.

Magnetic therapy focuses on the use of external magnets and electromagnetic devices to relieving symptoms and reversing degenerative diseases. The negative poles of the magnets have shown benefits to health while the positive poles exhibit a harmful effect. It has been identified that cancer thrives in a high-acid, low-oxygen environment. Negative magnetic fields cause the cells to become more alkaline and to increase the oxygen level. The technique is called Magnetic Resonance Bio-oxidative Therapy and is still considered experimental even though there are reports of successful treatments of cancers of the prostate, brain, spine, skin and mouth.

Light TherapyExposure to sunlight plays an important role in maintaining good health. Not only does it help the body produce Vitamin D; the sunlight also sends impulses to our brain’s regulatory system. The brain then generates signals to control everything from sleep cycles and body temperature to digestion and immune function. Because of the body’s need for light, poor lighting or minimal exposure to the sun can lead to health problems. Studies have linked poor lighting to fatigue, hostility, suppressed immune function, depression, hair loss, skin damage, strokes, and cancer.

‘Full-Spectrum Light Therapy’ has shown the ability to help with improving the overall health. Similar to exposure to sunlight, this therapy uses the entire range of light including ultraviolet. A study at Johns Hopkins University Medical School demonstrated a positive relationship between full-spectrum light and the prevention of breast, colon, and rectal cancers.

‘Ultraviolet Light Therapy’ is used both topically for skin lesions and through a process called hemo-irradiation for other cancers. Hemo-irradiation involves removing about a pint of blood, exposing it to ultraviolet light, and returning it to the patient’s bloodstream. This technique has been reported to increase oxygen levels, neutralize body toxins, and balance the body’s biochemicals.

‘Photodynamic Therapy’ or PDT is quite promising in handling some early stage cancers. This therapy involves injecting dyes or medications that are sensitive to light. These agents are absorbed by the cancer tumors which are then exposed to certain types of light. This technique has had a 90% success rate in Japan for the early stage cancers of the lung, stomach, esophagus, and cervix.

Five Easy Ways To Increase Your Brain Power : Brain Power

Neurogenesis is a word being tossed around a lot lately. It means that your brain is growing new neurons – and not just while you’re young. Scientists used to believe that you were born with a certain set of neurons, and mental decline was an inevitable part of aging.

Thankfully, they now know this isn’t true. Your brain continues to produce new neurons throughout your entire life. So, why do you have trouble remembering and why don’t you feel as “sharp” as you used to? These new neurons must be put to work in order for them to survive and strengthen. You literally have to use them or you’re going to lose them.

You probably know that challenging your brain can combat age-related decline. That’s why crossword puzzles and Sudoku are so popular. You diligently work the daily puzzle in hopes that it will keep your brain in shape. Research shows it’s a great start, but you need more. Your brain needs variety and novelty.

Think of it like this – you go to the gym every day in hopes of getting and keeping a fit, strong body. You pick up the dumbbell and do three sets of right bicep curls. You put the dumbbell away, towel off, and go home. Sure, you’re getting exercise – your right arm looks amazing. Now, look at the rest of your body. Not so great. Same thing happens when you exercise just one part of your brain.

The key to a great brain exercise is to throw yourself a curve ball. Do something completely out of the ordinary, something that breaks your routine, and you’ll strengthen the connections in your brain.

Try these five easy ways to exercise and increase your brain power.

1) Are you right handed? Try using your left hand to operate the computer mouse.

2) Recite the alphabet backwards. Try this, and you’ll feel your brain stretching as you move your way from Z to A.

3) Take a different route to work, school, or the grocery store. Your brain is on autopilot most of the time, so wake it up by learning a new way.

4) Enjoy your favorite T.V. show with your eyes closed. Try it for just ten minutes if you can’t get all the way through. Visualizing the characters and recreating the scenes in your mind forces your brain to focus on the show and what’s really happening.

5) Get in the shower and start singing. A study published in “The Psychology of Music” showed that singing familiar tunes helps to improve spatial intelligence – the reasoning your brain uses to judge distance.
