Short Term Memory : Understand How Your Memory Works And Use It For Mental And Physical Ease And Supremacy

Article by Michelle L. Green

Our memory is a house of pains. This house or quarters store many details that we learn from experience and others. The conceptualization housed in our memory is what we arrive at from interpretations observed or otherwise. We gather this information and store it from what we seen, heard, believed, (Note: Belief is something allegedly noted or assumed) or experienced. Looking at the note, we want to establish beliefs with concrete evidence to back our learning. Suppositions or purportedly is far removed from true meaning.

The memory takes in learning from images, pictures, perceptions and so on and stores it for use later. In short, your mind is a living filing system that stores more information than you can image.

Those people in the world that say, “I wish I was smart.” If these people only knew what they were saying, they would have a higher level of confidence. In fact, most of us are walking dictionaries or encyclopedias waiting to happen. For instance, if you are 40 years old you have more information stored in your mind than you realize from observation, listening and so on. All this information is stored in your subliminal and conscious mind.

If we took time to travel back into our learning phases we would conclude that we know more than what we imaged. The key to building this type of mind; however is to explore and take action, by putting forth effort and deciding on strategies that work for us.

We must discover solutions that help us develop all details we learned from observation, listening, hearing, and so on.

Our mind has three stages- one – SIS (Sensory-Information Storage), two – short-term memory, and then our long-term memory.

How SIS works:

Think of a friend or family member that you have observed for a number of years. Now, think back and recall a time that you noticed something new about these people later. Each day you mingle with these people you will learn something new, since your SIS mind ongoing takes in information, yet because you may not be focused, using your conscious mind, you will miss points at the time of your observation. What you miss stores in your subconscious mind. If we can combine SIS with our short and long-term memory, thus it can heighten our sensors of awareness.

How short-term memory works:

This is our temporary storage facility. In this area, our mind retains what we learn temporary and stores it for the shortest time. What this area of the mind does not take in, it channels to our long-term memory.

How the long-term memory works:

This area extends to a considerable distance. The long-term memory extends at greater lengths and heights, thus we can retain memories longer here. This area of the brain contains the vast number of parts. Thus, we see that if we can develop a pattern of learning by using our long-term memory more often, we a retain information longer, thus improving memory.

To develop a mind or mentality of ease whereas we can have power over how we mentally learn, we must integrate or emerge information together. We have a camera in our mind that snaps images of everything we observe. We won’t go into depth in this area, since I am writing a book based on the mental processes and how the mind works, so what I will say is that if we learn to stand back more often, observe and listen closer we can develop a mind that gives us mental and physical ease and supremacy. You must walk deep in your mental library to find power.

Brain Vitamins : Brain Vitamins – Nutrients and Herbs to Improve Memory and Mental Clarity

One of the scarier parts of getting older is the brain fog and memory loss that so many seniors seem to experience. As you age, your brain, and the blood vessels supplying it also get older. Plaque buildups, artherosclerosis and the nutritional deficiencies created by modern diets can escalate the effect of years of damage, causing senility, dementias and syndromes such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

It’s not something to look forward to in old age. But what most people don’t realize is that these changes are not inevitable. Besides the usual advice of having an active social life, and keeping your mind active by solving puzzles, there are a number of supplements that you
can take to protect your brain from the effects of daily stressors and keep it healthy and active.

Here are some herbs and vitamins that can improve nervous system functioning and preserve mental clarity well into your senior years.

* Bacopa (Bacopa monniera)

A therapeutically useful herb, Bacopa has been used by Ayurvedic practitioners for the treatment of cognitive impairment. It has also been studied for possible anti-Alzheimer’s properties and shown to reduce beta-amyloid deposits responsible for the disease.

* Ginkgo Biloba

One of the oldest and most popular herbs for improving memory, Ginkgo is also one of the most studied herbs and has been shown to help the brain in a number of ways. It increases blood flow to the brain, boosting its ability to function optimally and was also shown to be as effective as some prescription medications in improving focus, memory and mental function in Alzheimer’s patients. Its antioxidant properties protect the brain from damage by free radicals which may be a major contributing factor in age-related cognitive decline.

* Gotu Kola

Though it is not as well known in the US for brain power, Gotu Kola has traditionally been used to increase mental clarity and improve focus in China and other parts of Asia for thousands of years. Studies have shown that it may boost memory and IQ and reduce blood pressure by improving circulation.

* Vitamin B6

Vitamin B6 plays an essential role in brain function because it controls the synthesis and production of neurotransmitters like serotonin and GABA. It is responsible for controlling sleep patterns, moods, appetite and pain sensitivity and has been found to alleviate depression, anxiety and stress disorders. Deficiencies can cause insomnia and central nervous system malfunctioning. Supplementation can improve memory loss and other ailments.

* N-acetyl-L-carnitine

This neuroprotective compound is known as a “short-term memory enhancer” and is vital for production of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, required for mental function. It may help protect neurons from oxidative damage and prevent age-related decline in memory and mental function. In studies, it has been shown to slow the progression of neurodegenerative disorders such as dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

* Vitamin E

It is a powerful antioxidant that helps to protect brain cells and the myelin sheath against the damage caused by free radicals. Food sources include wheat germ, nuts like walnuts, seeds, eggs, leafy green vegetables, and whole grains. It has been shown to slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.

* Huperzine A

Huperzine A is an alkaloid that acts as an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, inhibiting the enzyme that breaks down the neurotransmitter, acetylcholine. Derived from Huperzia Serrata, a herb used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine, it has antioxidant and neuroprotective properties. It has proven to be effective in improving cognitive and memory abilities in those with Alzheimer’s disease.

Although there are prescription drugs used in diseases that cause memory loss, dementia and other nervous system disorders, many people prefer to use natural alternatives that have fewer side effects and are not addictive. A natural supplement with herbs and vitamins to improve memory can help protect your brain cells from degeneration and preserve mental clarity through your senior years.

Age-related memory loss and mental decline are not inevitable. Vitamins to improve memory can protect your brain from the effects of aging and keep your mental processes functioning optimally. Visit http://www.goodelements.com for high-quality supplements.

Habits to Keep the Brain Healthy:

The brain is considered as the central processing unit of the human body. It is the main organ that controls the rest of the bodily parts. And since the brain is like a muscle, it needs to be exercised regularly in order for it to stay in optimum condition.

It’s true that every organ in the body has an important role to play, but besides the heart, the brain is one organ you would want to keep healthy all the time. It is through the brain that we learn, think, and remember things, and if we fail to maintain its health, we may end up with a high risk for degenerative brain diseases such as Alzheimer’s and dementia. It’s a good thing that there are several things you can do to take proper care of your brain so that you don’t easily succumb to mental problems and brain diseases.

Stress is the number one cause of diseases and disorders in the bodily organs. If you want to maintain the youth and health of your brain, do your best to get rid of the stressors in your life. When you are under severe stress, hormones called cortisol rush to the hippocampus, the part of your brain that stores short term memory. When there’s too much cortisol rushing to the hippocampus, brain cells may die and result to poor learning and memory function. To avoid short term memory loss and improve your brain function, try some relaxation techniques that will help you eliminate or at least control stress. When you’re stressed, take long deep breaths to allow more oxygen to enter your brain. This encourages relaxation and helps improve your focus and concentration.

Sometimes, stress can be a result of lack of sleep. For your information, sleeping helps improve the brains health not only by reducing stress. Sleep is designed to allow damaged tissues in your body to heal. During sleep time, your body repairs the part of your brain that holds your memories together, making it an excellent activity to boost your long-term memory. Even a short nap during the day can boost the health of brain significantly. Some establishments in America allow their employees to take 20 minute power naps in the afternoon because they believe it can help improve their performance at work. This is quite true because according to studies, people who get at least 8 hours of sleep every day have sharper memories than those who only get 4-5 hours of sleep.

Speaking of sharper memory, playing brain games like scrabble, crossword puzzle, and Sudoku can richly enhance your mental ability. Whenever you spend time brainstorming or thinking hard on how you can win in Mastermind, the hippocampus in your brain generates new cells. The more mental stimulation and mental excitement you experience, the better.

Another more exciting way to improve your brain’s health is by feeding it. According to scientists, your thinking and your memory is greatly influenced by the kind of food that you eat. Since your brain is made up mainly of fat, what better way to fee it than by eating more fat? When we speak of fat, we’re referring to healthy fat or monounsaturated fat that you get from olive oil, avocado, canola oil, and nuts. If you’re not aware of it, Omega-3 that’s considered a brain food is actually a form of polyunsaturated fat. Include more Omega-3 -rich foods in your diet like tuna, sardines, salmon and mackerel. Other rich sources of Omega-3 are dark green leafy vegetables like spinach, asparagus, and broccoli. Alternatively, you can also improve your intake of Omega-3 by taking supplements.

Aside from monounsaturated fat, your brain also needs protein in order to function properly. Protein found in eggs, poultry, and fish increases serotonin in the brain. This chemical helps boost the feelings of the well-being of a person. In short, it acts like a “feel-good” chemical, just like endorphin. Endorphin, likewise, is a chemical released by the brain during physical activities like exercising. That makes regular physical exercise an excellent way to maintain the health of the brain as well. Each time you work a sweat by performing your favorite workout routine, you are actually promoting circulation of both blood and oxygen to the brain.

There is no question that your brain controls most of your bodily functions. By keeping it on top condition all the time, you can keep your overall health in check as well.

It’s true that every organ in the body has an important role to play, but besides the heart, the brain is one organ you would want to keep healthy all the time. It is through the brain that we learn, think, and remember things, and if we fail to maintain its health, we may end up with a high risk for degenerative brain diseases such as Alzheimer’s and dementia.Emotional Causes of Nervous Breakdowns

Article by Kathy Smith

Within the health and wellness industry, fish has long been accepted for some time as one of the very best foods that people can eat. Of all types of fish, fish that live in cold water and havea high fat content make the very best food for people’s brains, because they are dense in omega 3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids has become talked about as the most helpful food that people can eat to enhance their mental wellbeing, yet as the environment turn more polluted, the fish get more contaminated, too. In addition, regular physical fitness improves people’s emotions, health, wellbeing and increases blood flow to the brain.

A good diet that includes food that is good for your brain can help your brain keep much more information. My favorite brain foods to eat are nuts, fruit, salmon and fresh vegetables.Fiber is also an to the proper digestion of food, and to ensure the process runs very smoothly. With enough fibre, your brain can get a constant supply of good nutrients coming to it. With a lack of fibre, your brain will be much slower than its supposed to be. With fibre, not only will you feel good inside, but your brain will dramatically benefit through increased clarity and focus ability.You probably already know how important it is to eat 5 fruit and veg a day. The reason is because it protects your brain and body more than anything else. It keeps your mental functioning optimal.

Over time, you will also find yourself having a much better memory, being clearer, more driven, focused and ready to achieve the things you need in order to succeed. All of that will work wonders to improving your overall mental functioning to totally new levels. Oranges, Bananas, Raspberries, Strawberries, Tomatoes, Mangoes, and Kiwi.

Brain Food: Eggplant, like all vegetables and fruits, is loaded with phytonutrients. Because glucose is a brain food that increases self-control, those who have difficulty metabolizing glucose should have less self-control.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and should be consumed at all costs. Your brain has literally been fasting all night and needs quite a lot of energy and nutrition to put it back into gear. When you have breakfast every morning, you’ll find your mental functioning being much better – you will have much greater mental clarity, focus and powers to do the things that allow for your success.
