Your memory and how it works would be a complex riddle for any researcher. Take the seemingly simple process of transforming short-term to long-term memory. Take the score of a World Series baseball game. It makes sense to remember it the next day, but why might you remember it years later? Another puzzle is food. Why do particular foods help strengthen memory performance? Your brain is a sophisticated puzzle. Fortunately, researchers have found a few answers as to how it works.

There remain some questions to answer however. Neurologists still wonder why short-term memories are so easy to forget. On the other hand, why do some memories “stick” while others fly away? Then there is studying for exams. Why, when we try so hard to remember, does the brain insist on forgetting?

Are you a chronic forgetter with a reputation for absent-mindedness? Or do you remember most things and forget just now and then? You’re in luck either way. Here are some tips on overcoming memory problems consistently. Read on…

What Causes Poor Memory?

More than one guilty party can result in loss of memory. One or two of them may apply in your case.

For instance, you may get migraine headaches or other severe headaches. You may have periods of “migraine stupor.” During these times, you’ll have the experience of forgetfulness—when the headache begins, and afterwards. After a really bad headache, you’ll feel dazed and confused, with poor intellectual functioning.

Using heavy amounts of drugs or alcohol can also impair your memory. Heavy mariuana users tell us that they have hard time recalling information, or past memories. This memory loss results from the action of hallucinogenic chemicals in the drug. Excess alcohol can result in permanent brain damage. This damage impairs the drinker’s memory, making it hard to retrieval important dates, events, or facts.

Physical disease s is often blamed for poor memory. The first culprit blamed is often Alzheimer’s disease, which alters the brain structure and making it hard to recall the near and distant past. Another memory impairment disease is hypothyroidism…low amounts of thyroid hormones. These hormones are critical in keeping the brain active, alert, and generally healthy. Low levels of the hormones cause more sluggish brain activity. Similarly, if you are going through menopause, you may find your memory less active. Changes in hormone levels during menopause can create disorder in your brain’s memory functions.

Major trauma or head injuries can also knock out memory function. Amnesia is a popular plot line for TV and movie stories, but it actually doesn’t happen very often. The more common causes of memory loss are listed above.

Stress Will Cause Poor Memory and Loss of Focus And Concentration : Memory Exercises

Article by Leon Edward

It has been scientifically proven that our bodies evolve to respond to stressors by altering the physiology to react the right way to the stressor. However, when we come across a stressor that is symbolic to our bodies the body alters itself the way it did before but may not react the same.

Because of this, we build up what are known as stress products. Instead of using these stress products we “grin and bear it”, so to speak. Doing this can result in many different types of illnesses and diseases when we do not deal with stressors in a healthy manner or the stress reaction is chronic.

In fact, medical research has proven that people who always seem to be anxious and stressed out produce stress hormones. Stress hormones such as cortisol can have harmful effects on the brain cells. Therefore you should make it a priority everyday to take time for yourself and relax.

It doesn’t matter what you do to relax just find something you enjoy doing that will take all your stress and let it fade away. Did you know that a poor memory is often the result of having a poor self image? It’s true, which means in order to keep you mind healthy you need to believe that you can do anything you set your mind to.

It is very important to take care of your brain and heart, which can be done by having good blood circulation. Cardiovascular workouts like walking are great ways of getting you blood pumping and helping your brain produce new cells. If walking bores you, try other cardiovascular workouts like some sports or jogging.

Did you know that exercising can lessen your chance of having a problem with high blood pressure? This is true and having high blood pressure can also lead to memory loss when you get older. This means you need to get up off the couch and get some exercise. Exercise can help you by not only keeping you fit but also sharpening you memory.

Exercising you mind is another important thing to do to keep it from having problems later on in life. You can do this by playing games that make you think or watching, reading, or listening to something educational. You also need to make it a point to learn new things and have new experiences often.

If you feel that you have taken good care of your brain and you still are having problems with memory loss it is time to go see your doctor. Memory loss can be a symptom of more serious health problems that can go on for years without ever being noticed. The only thing that does not go unnoticed is the memory loss.

Unfortunately, everyone has to deal with stress and anxiety breaking their concentration on the things that are important. It happens to everyone, which means that you are not alone. Everyone needs to learn to deal with their stress and anxiety to continue to live long, healthy lives and have healthy brains.

Short-term stress can be helpful when a person really needs to concentrate the hardest. For example, when you have a deadline on a project for school or work that is coming up quick you can work hard and fast to get it finished on time. However, it is almost the exact opposite when it comes to long-term stress.

This is because your body starts putting more chemicals into the brain like adrenaline to keep you moving and others to help you focus. While at first this can be a good thing you can really begin to have problems if it is long term. Then you end up in this harmful cycle telling yourself you have to finish it and you need to concentrate.

Therefore, instead of pushing yourself you need to stop and take a break. Relax for a bit and stop trying so hard. You know that you need to get your project done by a certain time by if you can’t get it finished because you are stressed out and pushing yourself its not going to do you any good.

Short Term Memory : 12 Effective Ways To Cure Poor Brain Power And Memory

Article by Peter Filinovich

Brain power is very important to excel in life. The intellectual capacity of one’s brain coupled with his or her ability to use that capacity to the fullest is what we call brain power. Memory is a sub-type of brain power or may be considered as an aspect of brain power. Memory is the power of brain to store, retain and retrieve data or information when required. A person with good memory may not have equally good brain power. But a person with good brain power is likely to have a good memory. The difference between brain power and memory has been clearly elucidated.

Memory can be of 2 types: short term and long term. Short term memory has limited storage capacity. Information stored in short term memory is erased after a few seconds or minutes. On the other hand, storage capacity of long term memory is immense which implies that it can store unlimited amount of information for unlimited time-period, perhaps the entire life.

The factors contributing to memory loss include stress, anxiety, depression, alcohol addiction, ADHD, Vitamin B12 deficiency, prolonged illness, head injury, infections such as meningitis, herpes, encephalitis, changes in blood supply to the brain, neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s disease, Dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, Multiple sclerosis, Huntington’s disease, brain masses, seizures, stoke, drug side-effect, metabolic disorders like thyroid gland disease, diabetes, kidney, lung and liver failure etc. Your memory and brain power tend to weaken with age or due to any of the above factors but there are means or cures to fend off this sort of weakening.
