We are designed in a way so that we forget things and this is a good thing for the most part. Imagine if you had a photographic memory of all the unpleasant things that has happened to you in your life. Could you ever forgive someone for a wrongdoing? Could you ever stop grieving for someone? We never completely forget about something, but time is like an anesthetic to our memory, it numbs all our memories down. So in order to continue being happy we keep making new memories with the people we love and when we stop making new experiences with someone in particular, that person slowly but surely becomes a dusty archive in our memory.

You have to understand that pain, happiness, sadness, hatred, and all range of emotions peak at some point. Chances are that your pain has peaked already and you are just looking for a soft landing. The best thing to do in your situation is of course to keep yourself occupied with something entertaining or maybe even productive. I know your mind is telling you to stay home and to be alone, but I promise you that you will feel so much better if you surround yourself with the people that care about you.

If you feel like taking a little chance, I would also advise you to start dating again. I don’t want you to look for a serious and long-term relationship. I just want you to have a little fun by meeting new people and to re-acquaintance yourself to the excitement of starting anew. For one night don’t think about your ex girlfriend and just imagine you are having a good time with a friend. This will help you look towards the future rather look back for a past that’s long gone.

Whatever you decide to do, just remember that you don’t have to commit to anything or anyone, and you no longer have to factor in your ex girlfriend to come to a decision. The end is the beginning of something new and with that knowledge you’ll never be lost.

Working with memory exercises can be one of the easiest brain exercises for children, since it can be done in the car while driving or almost anywhere else. This is a Muscle Memory Exercise that helps me to improve my guitar playing, (And it still needs it:-) I try to do this exercise as often as I can. I am playing it on my Vintage V300 acoustic and I made the video with Windows Movie Maker for a friend who is learning the guitar. I hope it will be of help to someone. Improving your memory may seem like an incredibly daunting prospect; especially because many people believe that memory loss is a natural process of getting older. In part, it is a natural process but not for the reasons most people think. There are many methods that you can use in order to improve your memory but it will take some daily dedication on your part.

People tend to think their memory decreases with age because they find themselves forgetting things as time goes on and may not even remember what they ate for breakfast. The fact is that people spend most of their young lives in formal education that involves constant mental stress and preparation. Most people continue this education until high school or college, and then stop in order to join the work force. They will be stressed until they reach a point where they are comfortable in their career or job, and then are not stretching their minds as much. The attention level becomes very relaxed and the proper amount of focus is not paid to normal everyday events, which helps to reduce memory loss.

On average it takes approximately eight seconds for a short term memory to get transferred into long term memory, and that requires eight seconds of focus and concentration. Most people do not spend that long on normal everyday events because life today is so busy and fast. They are constantly thinking about the next event or task, and do not spend the time required that it takes to process a memory.

There are many methods that you can use to improve your memory, including repetition to ingrain an event into your brain. If you meet a new person it may help you to remember their name if you repeat it a couple of times immediately upon hearing it, and also possibly trying to connect it to an event or memory from your past. If they look like someone you know, or their name is similar to another person, then you can use it to better remember it.

When trying to remember something as simple as a grocery list, repeat the items on the list several times in the car when driving to the store and you should find much better retention when you get there. There is something about repeating the words aloud that helps the memory become impressed into your long term memory. If that memory never gets into the long term section of your brain, then it can be difficult to remember simple events or tasks such as what you had for breakfast.

Relating a story or tale that is already in your long term memory to a new experience or event can also help cement it into your mind so that you will remember it. There are also many great online courses or eBooks that you can look at or study in order to really help you improve your memory. Improving your memory will take constant and daily changes in your life that may seem uncomfortable at first, but you will get used to them fairly quickly. It takes about 21 days before something to become a habit, but you’ll find that it is well worth the effort.

The old adage “use it or lose it” is just as true for memory as in other areas. If you want to improve your memory, you need to give it a “work out” on a daily basis in order to have it available and at its best for you.

If you have been feeding your mind limiting thoughts about your memory, you might have convinced yourself that those limitations are real. You might have found other ways to compensate for what you believed about your memory, or you might have stopped depending on it altogether, and as a result are not giving your wonderful memory the practice it needs in order to stay in tip top shape. It’s time to take it back out of the box and start actively using it again. If you still have limiting beliefs about your memory running rampant, you might want to review Part 1 of this series.

As with starting any new practice or skill, when starting to improve your memory by reengaging it, start small. Remembering a shopping list of 4 items without writing them down is reasonable, trying to remember a shopping list of 40 items without writing them down or using a pneumonic is an unreasonable request on your memory, and is likely to defeat the purpose of putting you in touch with how wonderful your memory actually is.
