Training Your Brain For Success: Can Some Foods Make You Smarter? : Brain Foods

Article by Maria Markella

Recent researches show that certain foods like nuts and seeds, can boost your self-esteem and stabilize your mood. Whether you believe it or not, if you consume large quantities of any kind of nuts (almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts etc) and seeds (sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds etc) you will experience mood balance and you will start thinking clearer and be happier.

Many modern scientists use the term “Brain Food” for nuts and seeds and other related food. It is not a coincidence that nuts look like our brains. For example a walnut’s hard shell looks like our skull. Inside the walnut, the thin layer that connects the two halves of the nut looks like our brain membrane. And the two parts of the nut represent the two hemisphere of our brain.

Is it a coincidence that a food, shaped like a human brain, is considered a “Brain Food” and is proven to help your brain work more effectively while stabilizing your mood?

Here’s another fact. Most nuts are made up of at least 20% protein and contain omega-6 fatty acids, large quantities of vitamin E and B6. These powerful ingredients contained in nuts and seeds could boost your mood in a way similar to famous chemical antidepressants. There are hundreds of reports about the antidepressant effects of nuts.

Is it possible to defeat the not-so-serious conditions like mild depression, anxiety and stress by consuming certain types of nuts, without using any kind of chemical drugs? Its a great idea to eat nuts when you feel moody or you feel you are in a bad shape. It would be better to make those “Brain Foods” an important part of your diet. But when it comes to severe mental disorders (severe depression, panic attacks) you cannot simply rely on nuts and seeds to overcome the problem.

What nuts and seeds do is to enhance and empower the way your nervous system work, balancing your mood. Although nuts are excellent natural antidepressants and have no side effects, nutrition alone cannot be a substitute for the care of a trained professional doctor. Treating serious health conditions should involve the care of medical specialists.

Now, some historical information on these “Brain Foods”.

Isn’t true that nuts and seeds were an essential and elegant part of our ancestors’ diets? That goes for all ancient civilizations across the globe. Is this a coincidence? Years of research have shown that 70% of our ancestors’ diets were fruits, vegetables, nuts and selected seeds. Diets based on these “Brain Foods” were considered to improve mental abilities and lower the risk of infections/disease.

Start today. Understand that nuts and seeds empower your brain and your body and boost your mood and energy levels. Make those “rich” foods an important part of your diet.

Nutrition and Brain Activity : Brain Foods

Article by Abdullah Salim & Nedalee Ruiz

Food is very important not just for energy, but also for brain activity, mood and behavior. We can get irritable, annoyed and restless if we skip meals or do not eat enough. On the other hand, we may feel calm and relaxed if we have had food in a timely manner. A sleepy person can be productive after a cup of coffee but a person who does not eat enough on a regular basis will feel moody and cranky over a period of time. Our brain requires high energy and nutrition as it is important for the brain activity. Brain chemistry is influenced when we take less amount of food, or when we eat different kinds of food. Energy and nutrition levels when changed, affect the chemicals in our brain as well. These chemicals are also called neurotransmitters. These neurotransmitters help transfer neural messages to and from nerve cells and they can influence our activities like thinking and mood, sleep patterns etc. excess intake or deficiency of vitamins or minerals all affect brain functions like problem solving, memory etc.Our energy levels are built or drained by what we eat and drink. When we take good foods like proteins, carbohydrates and good fats, our energy levels are boosted. Foods that have high vitamin and mineral content help release more energy as well. Alcohol and stimulating drinks like coffee deplete our energy levels. Alcoholism is quite likely a factor in mineral and vitamin deficiency and can affect brain activity. Diseases are also a factor that deprive us of energy and lower the absorption of minerals and vitamins in our body. Poverty, fad diets and ignorance are also such factors. Mental Health and Energy Levels Energy or calories of a food help contribute to internal energy in the body. Carbohydrates, protein and fat all have calories in them. Vitamins and minerals though important for the body, do not have calories. The brain uses about 30% of energy even when resting as it is metabolically active. When we do not eat enough amount of food for energy, various problems are faced including lower memory and recall, decreased problem solving skills and lower fluency. Lack of motivation or energy both are experiences that we may face when we are hungry. When we constantly deprive ourselves of food, mood and response both may get affected. The body shuts down and slows down several activities like hormonal discharge, transportation of oxygen, ability to fight diseases, etc. This can be quite dangerous to the body. Moreover, when we are constantly low of energy, we may feel hopeless, sad and even apathetic. Children and fetuses actually are more susceptible to brain damage when they have lower amount of nutrition. In such a case, it depends on what stage of growth were they being deprived on nutrition. When infants and children have lower nutrition, they have lower functional and cognitive ability and lower than normal intelligence as well. Eating and Feeling are Linked: Our mental energy is linked by what we eat. A diet that helps to build brain energy includes fruits and vegetables, whole grains and naturally produced sugars. Minerals help our body by building more energy levels. Smaller, more frequent meals also help stabilize sugar levels in the blood and thus energy for our brain. Foods that are oxygenating or help produce neurotransmitters all help significantly in building energy levels. Stimulants like tea, coffee and sugar should be avoided while foods that are mineral rich should be added in the diet. Alkaline water is also very effective in building energy, absorbing nutrients and hydrating the body. Mineral or bottled water, even distilled water may not be as effective in providing these benefits.

Water plays a vital role in providing us the required nutrients and energy. Alkaline ionized water is better and richer than tap and bottled water. Here’s a transcript of the video: A complete and balanced diet is probably the most sound advice, but some specific types of food are especially good for brain health. Here are a few of the best: Fish: ***** The original brain food contains lots of omega-3 fatty acids and fish oils, especially cold water fish like salmon and cod. Omega-3s are beneficial in a number of ways, including promoting neuronal growth, improved cholesterol, and fortification of myelin sheaths which facilitate communication between neurons. Vegetables: ************ This is a great source of antioxidants, which may reduce the risk of developing cognitive impairment by diminishing oxidative stress. Spinach, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, and cauliflower are among the top candidates. Fruits: ******* Like vegetables, fruits are rich in antioxidants. However, fruit tastes better. Some of your healthiest options are blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, strawberries, raspberries, plums, avocados, oranges, red grapes, red bell peppers, cherries and kiwis. Water: ******* Be sure to get enough to keep your body and brain hydrated. Dehydration can cause a headache now, and can lead to long-term neuronal damage sustained from elevated stress hormones. Chocolate: ************ Last (and arguably least beneficial) is cocoa beans, which contain the flavanol epicatechin and antioxidants. Dark chocolate is best, and avoid candy bars with lots of added sugars. Also, recent research suggests that chocolate can improve

The story of mental photography began back in 1975 with a wealthy young man who owned a speed reading company and ‘knew’ that our brains were capable of so much more than just reading quickly.

That young man was Richard Welsh. Welsh had spent 15 years in the insurance industry and had become very successful in what he did. At the ripe old age of 34, having become quite wealthy from his work, Welsh decided to retire and moved to a remote location to contemplate his future.

Welsh decided to buy a speed reading company and it was from here that things really took off. From the classes in speed reading that Welsh’s company provided, he invested many years and much finance into the research and development of speed reading techniques and brain management. Universities conducted studies and trials on course participants to test Welsh’s techniques and the speed and comprehension of the participants.

The results proved to be amazing and it was at this time that Mental Photography became a subject matter in its own right.

The difference between speed reading and mental photography was that mental photography was an entirely different way of looking at learning. Instead of just coaching how to scan pages quickly, mental photography developed the natural skills that everybody has for photographic memory. Welsh believed that we were all born with the ability of a photographic memory, but as we grew and were taught to read, we lost that ability and began to rely heavily on what we read instead of everything that we see.

The science of mental photography keeps on developing and improving. Instead of having to go to a course for a few days you can now even download these courses from the internet. So what began as simply a speed reading course has progressed and grown into mental photography. How To Include Your Brain As Part Of Your Overall Health And Fitness Regime : Brain Foods

Article by michael bourne

A lot of people who say that they have a weight loss regime or a health regime or any kind of health and fitness routine fails to see the importance of including their brains in their routine, as they only focus on getting their bodies in shape, getting fit or losing weight. However, the brain being the most complex organ in the body that dictates the functions of the body daily routines, from going to the toilet to going to sleep, needs to be looked after as well. So in order for the body to function correctly the brain needs to be in even better shape than the body, which means daily diets and exercise as well. Although there is no absolute proof that eating certain foods has any direct fighting properties to prevent certain diseases from affecting the brain, some researchers have suggested that a good diet can play a positive role in how we feel, our moods and memory. Some of the top brain food includes the foods that have lecithin contained in them. Lecithin is one of the super nutrients that is converted to a vitamin-like nutrient known as choline, which is vital to making this chemical that plays an extremely important role in the memory process.

Experiments have been conducted and the results suggest that prolonged period of choline deprivation over a long time will result in memory lost. Lecithin can be found in foods such as eggs and peanuts and my favorite, soya beans. Scientist have now revised their theory on eggs and not only their theory on the benefits of eggs on memory, but also on their theory on cholesterol, because it does not affect the cholesterol in the blood. I have 101 recipes for eggs, if you would like a copy click here to Optin to get yours free.Another import ingredient to the brain is iron, which research has shown that long term deficiency will affect our ability to concentrate. Iron can be found in a number of foods like lean red meat, and oily fish like sardines and salmon for meat eaters. For non meat eaters it can be found in dark green vegetables, peas and bake beans. There are also vitamin and mineral supplement that supply our daily recommended allowance of 14.8mg.

Omega 3 in another well known important aid to the brain, which allows our brains to work well by keeping blood to our brains, as a result of this we will get oxygen and glucose, which is the number one source of energy to the brain. Omega 3 can be attributed to protecting against the decline of the brain functioning, it can be found in oily fish like salmon and in dark green vegetables. Flavonoids are another one of those super foods that benefits the brain as a result of the slowing down of the loss of the brain functions, it can be found in berries and red peppers, lettuce and citrus fruits. Gingko biloba is also said to improve the blood flow to the brain and provide oxygen, it has long been thought of as a memory booster and it is said to combat age related memory loss by regulating plasticity of the brain, this is mostly found in supplements.

Last but by no means the least is the humble water, drinking plenty of water does not only benefit us by quenching our thirst, but tops up the fluids and help our brain work to it full capacity. Camomile tea before going to bed is said to have a mild sedative effect and could therefore have a brain restoring restful night sleep. So in any health, fitness or weight regime that you have please try your best include your brain in it as well as it is all we have.

The other day I was at the beach and I happened to see two dolphins swimming in the water. My heart immediately jumped because I happened to have a camera on me at the time. Most of my friends are professional photographers and we all seem to share the same thing in common. We all want to take good pictures that people will enjoy seeing and I am always amazed at people that take such good pictures. I find my life to be an equal balance of so many things. I can honestly say that photography has changed my life in many ways and it will continue to do so into the very near future.

I think that a photographic memory involves a lot of different sources of information. In my opinion, people that get a photographic image in their mind are actually doing so because it reminds them of something unique. I think that photography has always helped me to see the true blessings in life. I think that when people take a vote on what they want out of life, they truly get to see the inner beauty of themselves and other people. It is no wonder why people have started to tell me their ideas.

I think that everyone shares a secret in the photography world. We all love our passion so much that we would rather be doing it than anything else. I think that a picture really captures a unique opportunity for all people. This is because so many people do not fully understand what photography really is.

When you take a picture of something, you should always go home and work on it. This helps you to better the photograph in the long run. It helps you to fully absorb and learn about the industry as a whole. I have learned to always take pictures of people and events that you find to be most appealing. In this way, you get excited about something.

I once had a friend that loved to take pictures of surfers on their surfboards. This was a wonderful thing for him to capture the waves and the surfers having fun. He would then take these photos and really do something with them that would be exciting for everyone to see. No matter what, he always seemed to be open to whatever the world had to offer. I guess that is because most people find it easy to share their experiences with other people. It makes you feel more of a happiness inside of your inner being. I think that photography tells us that we need to be more on our toes because it will help us to walk into a higher light at a later point in our lives.

I think that photography is a love in a person’s heart when they are young. I first began to love photography when I was only twelve years old. It made me happy to see that others had this same love as well. I always get happy when I see others happy.

Complementary and Alternative Treatments For Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) : Brain Vitamin

Article by Franchis Adam

Nutrition and Supplementation

Nutritional deficiencies are a factor in many psychological disorders. Many children with learning disorders have an allergic reaction to casein and gluten. Casein is a protein found in milk, so it may be wise to eliminate dairy from your diet. Gluten is found in grains, making wheat, spelt, oats, barley, and rye problematic. Common food allergens are corn, soy, eggs, tomatoes, yeast, and peanuts. Eat instead a diet high in protein that also includes high-fiber fruits and vegetables, plus brown rice, lentils, and potatoes. Obtain protein from fish, poultry, lamb, and non-animal sources, such as beans and legumes, raw nuts and seeds, and tofu. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, canned and packaged foods, carbonated beverages, chocolate, all junk foods, refined and processed foods, saturated fats, and sugar. Also avoid foods containing artificial colors or ingredients, as well as fatty foods.

Enhance brain power with the following daily supplements (if for a child, check with a health professional for appropriate dosages):

Most Important

8 Simple Ways To Boost Your Brain Power : Brain Power

Article by Trevor Johnson

There are lots of different ways to increase your brain power. Your brain is like any other “muscle” in your body and grows stronger the more it is used. Here are some that you can start using immediately to boost the power of your brain:

1. Use your brain more (duh!) Sounds easy. But how many times do you reach for the keyboard to search for something you already know but can’t be bothered to remember? How many times do you use a calculator, even for really simple calculations, rather than mental arithmetic? Set yourself a goal to complete a new puzzle each day. Whether it’s a crossword, Sudoku, a brainteaser or whatever.

2. Think young Play with thinking like a child, even if only occasionally. Question everything. Just keep asking “why” is a good way to do this. As soon as you’ve answered a question once, ask why again. And again. And again. This is actually a very useful way of brainstorming yourself. And by the way, “because that’s the way I’ve always done it” doesn’t count as an answer!

3. Jot down your new ideas So often, we come up with new ideas but put them in the “impossible” container in our brain. Jot them down on paper and go back through your list on a regular basis. Chances are that you’ll notice a couple themes evolving. They’re your minds way of telling you that you need to do something. Follow up on the ideas you most like.

4. Get creative Especially if you are always working on non-creative ideas. Getting creative forces your brain to use different parts of itself and will broaden your horizons.

5. Take supplements Certain supplements help keep our brains active. These include Ginko Biloba and Omega 3 fatty acids. You probably aren’t getting these through your normal diet, so take a trip to your local health food store (or Amazon for that matter) and get some good supplements to get your brain moving again.

6. Relax OK. How can relaxation stimulate your brain? Quite easily, actually. Too often in our hectic lives we are constantly on the move, busy busy busy. Give yourself some time to relax and chill. You can do this with a novel, your favorite music, exercise, anything that you know will relax you. Learning to relax more will reduce any tension that’s built up in your body. In turn, this will free up your brain for other tasks.

7. Test yourself See whether you can remember what you ate for dinner yesterday, then a week ago, then a month ago. Don’t limit yourself to food. Use events and names and facts and figures. Anything that will cause your brain to delve deep to find the answer. Don’t beat yourself up if you can’t instantly remember everything. Just go with it and start improving your memory power.

8. Play a game There are lots of new video games coming out that are designed specifically to boost your brain power. Play one or two of these to see which you get on with best and then make a habit of playing them regularly.

Get more ideas on how to increase your brain power and rediscover the fun of using your brain more.

4. Eat foods that help your brain. Your brain will operate at its finest if provided with with nutritious meals. Proteins are ideal for the brain, and could appear in cheese, meat products, fish, and milk. Complex carbohydrates are vital as well, and these carbohydrates derive from fruits, vegetables, and grains. Our brain should have some fat, so do not steer clear from all fats.

It is recommended to primarily have good fats that can be found in healthy oils like olive oil or fish oils. They can also be contained in nuts like pistachios, peanuts, and cashews. Make an effort to avoid processed foods basically because they tend to have unhealthy fats.Eat food products that include omega-3s, for example trout, salmon, and tuna, which are oily fish.

5. Start out a new past time. Trying a new past time is another way to develop your interests and utilize your brain to learn something new. Being busy and discovering new things stretch the way in which brain thinks.

Challenging ones self and improving brain function may be something that any person is capable of doing.Make just one adjustment today to stimulate your brain. Boost Your Brain Power with Brainwave Entrainment Technology : Brain Power

Article by Greg Frost

Don’t you think that having an extra advantage in life is something necessary in this fast paced and competitive world? Especially one that is drug free and uses the brains natural potential to improve our own abilities by multiple times. Not all of us are born gifted and some of us are actually born with a use of higher brain functions than the rest.

These are the Einstein’s, the Stephen Hawkins and the Jeffrey Chaucer’s of the world today and the advantage that they have over the rabble of society is sometimes considered outright unfair. But no more, the elitist view of the world now has become the common panorama that we all can have a slice of. Boost your brain power with brainwave entrainment technology and conquer the world with your superior abilities.

The line in the sand has to be redrawn and all manner of things have been reset. Now, we all have an equal chance of success – just like the higher echelons of society. The technology is called brainwave entrainment and in essence it is the use of stimuli from any source to induce an emission of an electrical charge – fired from the neurons of the brain.

This is a response evoked from the cortical of the brain’s two hemispheres and it can be measured by medical and scientific equipment. Here is where the secret of success is measured. These geniuses of society or those who have been known to be better and smarter than most, have been placed under tests and science has discovered that while they are in their most creative or most intelligent, there is a great electromagnetic spike within the brain – differing frequencies for instances of great learning, extreme creativity or even increased intelligence.

Now we know why they are so good at what they do. While every brain is different and thus the results are different, this is the discovery of something momentous. We can unlock our true potential, and while each of our brains has different levels of peak performance, we can finally use all the power the brain can possibly give to us. This is the same technology that the medical industry has been using – a good example would be biofeedback and how this also entrains frequencies in children with mental disabilities like autism or ADD/ADHD – as well as increasing blood flow to the brain.

With a host of medical and scientific literature to back the technology, many companies who want to advance the science of personal development has researched into how to make this more easily available to the everyday consumer and the results have been a whole host of products now available online to boost your brain power.

From subliminal CDs to regression tapes and even magnetic field induction equipment, there is something for everyone and the results are truly amazing. Boosting your brain power with brainwave entrainment technology is a reality today and anyone serious about personal development and improving their lives should take a serious look at the technology.

Your memory and how it works would be a complex riddle for any researcher. Take the seemingly simple process of transforming short-term to long-term memory. Take the score of a World Series baseball game. It makes sense to remember it the next day, but why might you remember it years later? Another puzzle is food. Why do particular foods help strengthen memory performance? Your brain is a sophisticated puzzle. Fortunately, researchers have found a few answers as to how it works.

There remain some questions to answer however. Neurologists still wonder why short-term memories are so easy to forget. On the other hand, why do some memories “stick” while others fly away? Then there is studying for exams. Why, when we try so hard to remember, does the brain insist on forgetting?

Are you a chronic forgetter with a reputation for absent-mindedness? Or do you remember most things and forget just now and then? You’re in luck either way. Here are some tips on overcoming memory problems consistently. Read on…

What Causes Poor Memory?

More than one guilty party can result in loss of memory. One or two of them may apply in your case.

For instance, you may get migraine headaches or other severe headaches. You may have periods of “migraine stupor.” During these times, you’ll have the experience of forgetfulness—when the headache begins, and afterwards. After a really bad headache, you’ll feel dazed and confused, with poor intellectual functioning.

Using heavy amounts of drugs or alcohol can also impair your memory. Heavy mariuana users tell us that they have hard time recalling information, or past memories. This memory loss results from the action of hallucinogenic chemicals in the drug. Excess alcohol can result in permanent brain damage. This damage impairs the drinker’s memory, making it hard to retrieval important dates, events, or facts.

Physical disease s is often blamed for poor memory. The first culprit blamed is often Alzheimer’s disease, which alters the brain structure and making it hard to recall the near and distant past. Another memory impairment disease is hypothyroidism…low amounts of thyroid hormones. These hormones are critical in keeping the brain active, alert, and generally healthy. Low levels of the hormones cause more sluggish brain activity. Similarly, if you are going through menopause, you may find your memory less active. Changes in hormone levels during menopause can create disorder in your brain’s memory functions.

Major trauma or head injuries can also knock out memory function. Amnesia is a popular plot line for TV and movie stories, but it actually doesn’t happen very often. The more common causes of memory loss are listed above.
