The Relation Between Brain And Mental Exercise : Brain Training

Article by Pedro Teixeira

It is easy to underestimate and forget about the true powers of the brain and its ability to heal the body. There have been many studies done over the years that prove that consistent mental exercise and brain training has actually improved the lifestyles of those that have been impaired by some kind of trauma or disease. One of these mental training programs that people use today is called brain training or brain fitness.Just like you train your muscles to get stronger through exercise, the brain can be trained to improve as well. Only instead of getting bigger, bulkier and able to push through physical limitations like certain muscle functions, the brain can expand its capacity to learn, maintain knowledge and memory, and even improve attention spans and help you focus more on the task at hand.By using an online brain training program, you can use as mental exercise for your brain on the internet. You should use scientifically proven program that available for anyone that has a computer and an internet connection. You want to make sure your program is effective.Since the brain has an outstanding ability to reprogram itself just like a computer, you can train your brain to function more efficiently for your life and improve your cognitive skills in areas that will benefit yourself. Imagine being able to learn new tasks and complete projects much faster than you ever thought possible. Or picture yourself reading through a book twice as fast as you normally would yet still being able to soak in more information and retain that information for practical use years into the future. These are just a few of the capabilities that you can train your brain to do through the use of brain training and persistent mental exercise. One of the best things about personalized brain training is that it will give you training based on your current mental and cognitive state. It may be too tough to really know when your brain is ready to move on to the next and more demanding mental exercise, so the computer will assess your level for you based on previous exercises. When you are prepared to move on to more challenging brain training, it will present you more challenging tasks. In order to get real results from mental exercise, you will need to make sure that you are consistent with the training and that you have good help and support along the way. Just like a physical exercise, the people that get the best results usually have the best staff and physical trainers to show them the way.

The brain is one of the most important organs in our body. Brain training control a whole vast range of activities and is key to our emotions and thought processes. It basically makes up who and what we are. Even mental exercise is very essential for the proper development of brain.

Brain Research And Its Findings : Brain Training

Article by Pedro Teixeira

We are learning a lot about our brains and how they function by using new technology and focusing in on new studies. Much of the current brain research is used to focus on overcoming brain trauma as a result of anxiety, stress, depression and other mental illnesses. Through neurofeedback we can see how the brain fires electronically and use our findings to fix the misfires through brain training and rehabilitation. Physical trauma to the brain as well as emotional disturbances can lead to disruptions and in the way the brain functions. People with mental illnesses and depression have much different looking neurofeedback than those with no known mental illnesses.Today we use a combination of machines and technology to read this neurofeedback and we are finding that we can indeed control the way our brains fire. Through the use of MRI and EEG machines we can actually see how the brain fires when doing brain research. We can then test out how well certain brain training works to get the brain to fire as normal. First you test out the patient’s brain activity before the training begins, during, and then once it is through. People with depression, anxiety, panic attacks and other mental illnesses like ADHD, autism, and bipolar disorder have all shown major improvements through proper mental brain training.Analysis through EEG feedback as well as personality and mood changes gives us plenty of proof that these brain exercises through scientifically validated brain training programs do actually work. People that have experienced daily occasions of panic attacks and severe depression due to emotional trauma experiences in their life have reported complete recoveries after going through such brain training. Of course it hasn’t worked for every single patient, but the good news is that we are on the right path and we can use these test results to build on our knowledge and create better brain function training programs to help even more people. With time and enough brain research we may find the cures to many diseases and illnesses through brain rehabilitation without the use of medicines or radical surgeries to do so. We are finding much conclusive evidence that the brain does indeed have the power to retrain and cure itself from traumatic events. As we learn more about how the brain functions, we will also learn more about how to train the brain to function more efficiently.

As we learn more about how the brain functions, we will also learn more about how to train the brain to function more efficiently. Brain research is a vital part of the future for doctors and hospitals. The brain can accomplish marvelous feats and we are just at the forefront of learning its true capabilities.

Boost your Memory with Brain Supplements

There are many supplements out there that are designed to keep the brain healthy and motivated. The brain in particular is an organ to be cared for, mainly because once it begins to fail, it cannot easily be brought back. Caring for the brain is as crucial as caring for the heart and other important organs, and supplements for brain health can help to keep the brain healthier longer. Supplements have been used for centuries to keep the body healthy in many aspects, and the brain is just another of our muscles and structures that needs to be taken care of. Knowing the type of supplements that are healthy for the brain can help your brain stay stronger and more alert longer, and keep forgetfulness, stress, and other brain diseases at bay!

A common brain supplement is Saint John’s Wort. This is a supplement most people associate with treating nervousness and anxiety, but in reality, taking Saint John’s Wort is more healthy for the brain than one would think. Stress is actually among the top factors for brain function loss, and stress as a rule tends to break the entire body down, starting with the brain itself. In managing stress with anxiety treating supplements like Saint John’s Wort (try Chamomile or peppermint if Saint John’s Wort isn’t your thing or if you are on birth control), you are helping your brain relax. When your brain relaxes, your entire body can be at ease, and your brain will work successfully for you much longer. A stress-free brain is a brain that can remember more longer, and maintains easy focus. Stress, in its own way, actually works to eat away the brain’s capabilities.

Vitamins, particularly B vitamins, are essential supplements for brain health.

In fact, simply taking a daily multi-vitamin can greatly improve your brain’s health in general, and help all your other major organs as well stay in tip-top shape. B-6 and B-12 vitamins are particularly healthy for the brain in helping it function at its best. If vitamins aren’t your thing, try your omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for prime brain function. Fish is brain food, and getting your fatty acids is crucial- your brain cannot produce omega-3 fatty acids on its own, and needs the supplements in order to function well. Think of putting oil in your car; this is much how these fatty acids work to help the brain work the way it should and keep it running smoothly.

Proper exercise and hydration, and taking care of your body in general, are especially beneficial to your brain. When you can keep your brain motivated by challenging games or thought, you work to keep your brain exercised and well-nourished. Simply keeping your brain stimulated can be perhaps the greatest supplement of all. Once the brain begins to suffer, it’s very difficult to bring the brain back to its former capabilities, so taking care of your brain today is the best way to ensure a healthy brain in the future.  As with any medications or supplements, it is important to consult with a licensed and qualified medical professional before making any decisions.

Brain Enhancement Methods Techniques Software and New technology Tools : Brain Foods

Article by Leon Edward

Brain Enhancement can be attained with natural and technical methods both rather quickly and longer term more permanent results. You will be glad you spent the extra effort in optimizing your brain power and maintaining brain health for your entire life. Being smarter and optimizing your IQ, you will also be happier and more than likely financially successful.

Some short term fixes that can show improvent almost immediately include simply improving your posture, correctly breathing, modifying your diet – yes you can be more intelligent, smarter and be happier in life just by giving yourself the right fuel, having the right diet and even boosting performance with supplements as simple as caffeine in limited amounts.

A brain needs a lot of water and oxygen for optimal functioning. It is estimated that your brain will use about one fifth of your entire oxygen consumption. even though the brain makes up hardly any of your entire body weight. If you take away oxygen supply from us, our brain performance decreases immensely. If you start to feel drowsy, even lazy and not that alert, get some fresh air, walk down to the water cooler for a double dose of brain food, oxygen and water.

After large meals, our digestive processing uses up a good portion of the available oxygen in biochemical reactions and limits the oxygen percentage that the brain receives through the blood transport. Subsequently, many of us feel sleepy after such a large meal. A suggestion here is rather than eat three full meals a day, choose twice as many smaller meals or snacks. Many work lifestyles might prevent breaking throughout the day even for a few minutes, so there is another way. It is to chew up your food extremely well allowing some breakdown of food or digestion to occur within the mouth alleviating the stomach of the full oxygen depleting digestion processing.

Blood transports nutrients and oxygen to our brain which needs a vast amount of blood circulation. Of course blood is made up of mostly water, so its easy to see the role of water in optimizing brain functioning here, drinking water is essential for optimal concentration and mental alertness.

The brain needs a constant supply. So do not reach the point where your mouth is dry and your desperately needing water. At that point, you are already dehydrated. Keep a steady supply of water throughout the day, keep sipping it as you work or exercise or even watching television. Long term, brainwave patterns have been entrained to match electrical frequencies associated with advanced brain functioning. By listening to computer generated tones that are emitted at specific frequencies, your brain’s electrical impulses will match these generated electrical impulses. We can thank how we were created for our brain’s ability to in a sense learn without having to learn.

Brainwave entrainment can actually be a shortcut to success as brain wave patterns can be developed quickly instead of the method of many super successful in the past often requiring decades of training to form their neural pathways. The practice of entrainment relies on our brain’s ability to adapt to the preferred frequencies simply by listening to the corrected patterns in certain deep states of mind.

Meditation is a natural method that has been scientifically proven in some cases to effect the brain physically. First, meditation allows better breathing and with it the benefits of oxygen and improved blood flow as previously written here. Meditation can be learned from a beginner book from your library, articles on the web written by authorities in this field, and of course specialized training which can become quite expensive.

The benefits of meditation are worth it to many, as it is known to create a sense of heightened awareness, better focus, increased learning ability, improved recall and long term memory. Being quiet and listening in the learned relax state can provide your brain with better performance as actually processing information becomes more efficient as proven with the latest brain technology monitoring.

Simple self hypnosis has shown improvement to a limited extent in accelerated learning, absorbing information faster with eye movement and still increasing comprehension. Some hypnosis in repeated sessions will increase the processing of information and subsequently recall. This is an area that has definitely shown proven results in brain improvement, however the reliability has not been flawless as some people will not be changed.

The scientific community has also discovered that our brains have a hidden potential for improvement, creative thinking and optimal usage. Minimizing the detrimental effects that effect brain optimization is another field of study by many and a topic with too numerous fail modes to include all here in detail.

Besides the physical limitations by lack of oxygen, water, exercise, incorrect nutrients, there exists new causes of brain degradation all of which are not clearly defined. Poor effects are known already from harmful stress, negative thoughts, distractions, excessive noise, alcohol, chemicals and more.

There is new hope as well as great strides are being made in researching radiant thinking, mind mapping, linear thinking, creative visualization and effects, imagery, positive thoughts, positive surroundings and effects of affirmations…

Remember, your brain cells crave stimulation. Use your brain throughout life. If your work doesn’t challenge you, go out and play brain games even, write, keep a daily journal.

Some of the great minds in history as Thomas Edison, Isaac Newton, Thomas Faraday, Einstein, even Steven Hawking (electronically) were compulsive journal or diary maintainers and many people in a wide variety of professional disciplines have proven the IQ building effects of daily journal success, themselves being super high achievers.

At whatever intelligence level you are at now, you can improve your brain functioning and maintain optimal performance as you age.

Mood and Food- What foods can improve it? : Brain Foods

Article by Jason Yun

Halloween is about up. Which means the Holiday season pretty much here. The Holidays tend to bring a lot of stress into people’s lives. All the plans that need to be made, the juggling of schedules, the gift buying and giving, the crowded malls, the gobbling turkeys, and all those darn Santa hats.

The worst thing that happens around this time of year is that most people just drop their nutrition and workout programs. Bad nutrition and not working out will lead you to be a very unpleasant Mr. or Mrs. Scrooge. And with everything else going on top of that…

That’s why I stress the importance of good eating. Not good eating in the way of eating BBQ spare ribs everyday tastes good, but good eating in the way of staying healthy with your nutrition and only cheating on your diet less then 10% of the time.

It will keep your mood up and keep you happy. Be happy! The holidays are supposed to be fun. Don’t get stressed. So here are 5 foods that you can eat to help improve your mood. And they aren’t just for the Holiday season either; year round these foods can make you feel good.

Food #1 Spinach. Calorie for calorie this green leafy veggie provides more nutrients then almost every other food on Earth. Scientifically proven to help protect the brain from age-related declines. A healthy brain will make you happy. It’s also loaded with the vitamin called Folate. Folate has been shown to cause depression if the levels are too low.

Did you know Subway has spinach? Replace your sandwich with the nutrient-dense spinach from that nutrient-less romaine lettuce next time. Always opt for a spinach-based salad when you can. Your mood will thank you.

Food #2 Dark Chocolate. No! I am not talking about Snickers or Milky Way Bars either. The chocolate you want to look for is ‘high cocoa-content dark chocolate’. 60 percent cocoa or above. 70 percent or higher are the best but it is hard to find. But don’t pig out on it either because of the palmitic acid type of fat in it. But chocolate has been proven to release endorphins and will boost serotonin levels, which will give you a happier you. But again keep the intake low—no more then a couple ounces a week.

Food #3 Walnuts. This nut contains more Omega-3 fatty acids then any other. You need Omega-3’s in your diet. One of the many benefits of Omega-3’s is that they support brain function. They have been used in depression studies and have helped considerably. Your brain and mood go hand-in-hand. They don’t call Omega-3 fats ‘brain food’ for nothing.

Food #4 Salmon. I’m only talking wild here, not the farm-raised. The most Omega-3 Fatty Acid you can find in one food item is probably found in Wild Salmon. Notice how we’re coming back to Omega-3’s? The wild kinds of salmon who dine on their oceanic friends are full of this wonderful fatty acid. However the farm-raised kinds are fed grains, not exactly the kind of grub you’ll find in the ocean and rivers where salmon live. The result is a fish that produces very little Omega-3 fats and produces a lot more of the inflammatory Omega-6 fats. We already get more then enough of this fat in our diets. So just eat the Wild Salmon and avoid the farm raised like the plague. Always ask if your at a restaurant, too.

Food #5 Eggs. And yes I mean the whole egg. I wrote an entire article on the benefits of this food. For starters, it is without question the absolute best whole protein food you can eat. People are worried about the cholesterol and fat though. But you see eggs contain Choline, which is a B Complex vitamin that many people will be low on if they avoid foods like eggs. Choline to be ‘used’ appropriately by the body needs to be in the presence of fat. Eggs are perfect because of the fat already naturally occurring. Without getting too scientific choline is connected to memory and thought- both very important for affecting mood.

Train Your Brain with Fun Free Maths Games! : Brain Training

Article by Patrick Smith

Brain training games are extremely popular on the net. The concept of brain training is that you can train your brain to improve your mental abilities through exercise, just like you can train your body’s fitness through sports and other forms of physical activity. In this article you can read all about brain training games and where to find the best free ones online.

You may already be familiar with the concept of brain training via the Nintendo DS brain age series hosted by neuroscientist Dr Ryuta Kawashima, who developed methods to help people to develop, retain and recover their learning abilities. The idea of the Nintendo games was that they would allow players to keep their brain youthful, flexible, and fit. And maths games as well as other games featuring puzzles with numbers make up a sizable section of brain training.

Since the launch of these games there have been many online versions of train your brain games, and games that involve specific elements of brain training, such as maths games. These games are a fun way to boost your maths skills. Maybe you’re having trouble with maths in school, or maybe you have an arithmetic test coming up and you’re not so sure how well you will fare without a calculator? Or maybe you’re just really good at doing sums and you can’t get enough of developing your skills and speed. Either way, these online maths games are just the thing for you.

An endless supply of sums to train your brain with, improve your speed, or just show off your talent. And all in a fun game setting! Try to beat your computer opponent in a race where you get to move ahead every time you solve a sum, count cards or stones and try to divide them all up equally as fast as you can, play a bubble game in which you get to shop till you drop as long as you don’t exceed your budget, or just do a straight up brain training math test and watch your score improve. Maths games come in all kinds of formats, and contain all kinds of sums for you to solve. Add up, subtract, multiply and divide to get the right answer, or fill in the blanks with the right numbers or symbols (+, -, x, etc.) to complete the sum. Can you do it? Introduction (excerpt from Train Your Brain More) : Brain Training

Article by Dr. Ryuta Kawashima

Why should you train your brain?

This book is a follow-up to Train Your Brain: 60 Days to a Better Brain. I’ve received lots of letters from readers since the first book came out, and I’m delighted to know that people all over the world are now making these drills a regular part of their daily routine. To keep things fresh, we have made one change to the format of the exercises. We have included some simple division problems for you to solve as you work through your daily brain-training exercises. Brain function naturally begins to deteriorate after our twenties, just like our physical and muscular strength gradually weaken as we age. However, just as you can maintain your physical strength if you exercise regularly, you can keep your brain power from deteriorating by providing daily stimulation for your brain.

In my neuroscience lab, I developed the exercises in this book in order to activate the largest regions of the brain. These brain health exercises increase the delivery of oxygen, blood, and various amino acids to the prefrontal cortex. The result is more neurons and neural connections, which are characteristics of a healthy brain.

Who is this book for?

*

Adults with the following symptoms: *Increasing forgetfulness * Difficulty remembering people’s names, spelling words, or expressing thoughts. *

Adults who wish to work on the following: *Creativity * Memory skills *Communication skills *Slowing the mental effects of aging

How can you keep your brain healthy?

In order to maintain your physical health, you have to (1) exercise regularly, (2) eat healthily and (3) sleep well. In like manner, in order to keep your brain healthy, you need to (1) exercise your brain regularly, (2) eat healthily and (3) sleep well. As an adult, you are responsible for your own diet and sleep on a daily basis. This book is exclusively designed to help you get used to also training your brain everyday.

Simple calculations really work!

While browsing through this workbook, you may have noticed it consists only of simple calculations. Some of you may be wondering why an adult, who is intellectually active at work and at home, would need to do such elementary school-level math. Through my research I found that simple calculations activate the brain more effectively than any other activity. I also discovered that the best way to activate the largest regions of the brain was to solve these calculations quickly. That is why I have created the easy-to-solve problems you see in this workbook to help you Train Your Brain!

Calculation and oral reading exercises are the optimal training methods according to the latest brain research

My latest research proved that reading aloud, solving simple calculations, and writing activate the brain most effectively.

Brain training boosted the ability to remember by twenty percent

My research team carried out research with elementary school students. We counted how many words they could memorize within two minutes and found that, on average, they could memorize 8.3 words (the equivalent figure for adults is 12.2). When we conducted the same test after a two minute calculation exercise, the average word count remember increased to 9.8 and after two minutes of reading out loud the average increased to 10.1. Our results show that these exercises boosted the children’s ability to remember by more than twenty percent.

The calculation and reading aloud exercises acted as a warm-up for the students, allowing them to perform better on the word memorization tests.

Simple calculation and oral reading exercises alleviated symptoms of dementia

My team also conducted an experiment with twelve dementia Alzheimer type patients. We gave our patients a ten minutes-a-day writing and oral reading exercise and a ten-minutes-a-day calculation exercise to be performed two to five days a week. Cognitive and prefrontal cortex function of non-participant subjects that did not do the calculation and oral reading exercises deteriorated during the six-month follow up. However, with participant subjects that did do the exercises, we succeeded in preventing deterioration of their cognitive function, as well as improving their prefrontal cortex function.

This is an exceptional achievement on a global scale — rarely has the deterioration of the cognitive function of dementia Alzheimer type patients been slowed or diminished.

How to Increase Brain Power Using Brain Exercising Games : Brain Training

Article by Aleksandar Fir

It’s an established information that everybody over time will suffer loss of a percentage of brain power for a certain number of different reasons. There are some that think this is because of people not stimulating their brains enough, others think it is linked to the aging process, and yet others think it has something to do with a problematic brain disease such as Alzheimer’s. Although some of these situations and conditions may look a bit harsh, the fact is brain power will be depleted if the brain isn’t exercised in the proper way, on a consistent basis.* Improve Brain Power

Mental power is perfected by systematically using the brain for lots of different uses. The kind of exercise I am talking about doesn’t involve riding a bike or going on walks – but rather using brain training and exercise games to reach the outcomes you are hoping for. This can be attained quite easily; but, dedication on your part is needed to be really good at developing your brain and getting maximum brain power.

* Brain Training Games

In order to evade mental degeneration, it will be crucial to train the brain in ways that increase brain power and excellent mental health. There are many companies out there providing a variety of brain training games but the fact is many of them do not offer the advantages you might be looking for.

In order to find a place for incredible training games, it will be critical to examine the material that accompanies the game to ensure you understand it, and it doesn’t present an undoable task for you from the start.

* Brain Exercise Games

Brain training and brain exercise are often considered the same, but in fact they are quite unlike. Sometimes you will want to train your brain on specifics which in turn will be used for something repetitive in nature. Brain exercise games will provide challenges for the brain which lets the brain to undergo different situations and conditions throughout the exercise.

Regardless of your reasons for wanting to boost your brain power, the good news is that you will have the ability to do so by trying either brain training games, or brain exercise games. Either of these solutions will yield great results and allow you to reach complete awareness, and the ability to calculate and solve problems with ease. Brain power will surely put you on heights never before attained which will incorporate understanding, problem solving, and a general healthier mental condition.

The proven method to increase your brain power is to try these scientifically created brain games for adults. They are created by world’s top neuroscientists to hugely increase your cognitive functions.

The Best Exercise for Your Body And Brain : Brain Training

Article by John Perry

Copyright 2006 John Perry

Stephen Covey (http://www.stephencovey.com/) told us to “begin with the end in mind.”

Have you ever heard “train with the brain in mind?”

Growing up, I would get the latest issue of Muscle and Fitness and plug away at biceps, triceps and chest routines. What resulted was frustration due to lack of performance enhancement and usually an overuse injury or two.

After becoming a Physical Therapist and gaining the knowledge of how the body operates, it became apparent why I had so much trouble meeting my fitness goals growing up and why I had injuries.

I was confusing my brain.

The brain is our guardian; like a protective mother with lots of kids. The kids in this case are all the bones, joints, muscles, etc.

The mother wants her kids to be successful. It really bothers her to see her kids suffer or doing anything that makes them struggle. In other words, the brain is interested in the body’s success.

Now most mothers (brains) have spies to help them. These are neighbors, kids in the neighborhood, teachers at school, etc., that let mothers know if there are problems with the kids. You see, the brain does not like the body or its parts (the kids) to get into any difficulty.

These spies are called proprioceptors. They send information to the brain to let it know such things as how fast a limb is moving, how much tension a muscle is under, if a joint is under too much strain and where a body part is located in space. The brain reacts by making adjustments so the body is successful.

You see, by training the body in the correct way, the right information gets to the brain. When you train the body the wrong way, the spies send bad information to the brain; this results in poor performance and fitness outcomes.

The brain will take in whatever information you feed it, good or bad. It loves you like only a good mother could. It will react based on the information it gets. The brain wants you to be efficient and have glorious results…but can only respond to the information it receives.

The last tidbit of information about the brain and its importance to training is this; the brain recognizes muscle synergies (groups of muscles working together).

This brings me to my point about confusing the brain. If you send it information about muscles working in isolation (biceps curls, triceps press downs, sitting knee extensions), then the brain responds with mixed signals. It wants to make the body efficient by having the muscles work in groups. Based on the feedback it is getting though, it tries to make the body as successful as possible by helping the muscles work individually. This results in poor movement patterns and injury.

Based on this information, I realized my brain needed some help. I needed to stop feeding my brain artificial movement information. I needed to train my muscles and joints as a group and do programs that allowed my body to move as it was designed to move.

Now I realize I just gave you a lot of neuroanatomy and physiology in a few short paragraphs. However, with that knowledge in tow, let me tell you the type of routine that will stimulate your brain!

There are four things you must do:

First, get on your feet. We constantly ask our bodies to perform while squatting, walking and climbing stairs. Our muscles need to be ready to respond when executing these types of activities. If you train the body (and brain) while on your feet, it will respond by making the body more efficient during those occasions.

Second, train movements, not muscles. As mentioned before, the brain recognizes groups (synergies) of muscles, not individual muscles. To make greater fitness gains, don’t confuse your brain…train it correctly.

Third, work in multiple planes of motion. There are three planes of motion: sagittal (front and back like a forward lunge or walking straight ahead), frontal (side-to-side like a lateral/side lunge or arm motion during jumping jacks), and transverse (rotation like a drop-step lunge or swinging a bat). All human movements have all three planes involved; however, there is usually one dominant plane. Training in three planes will assist in training muscle synergies and will make your brain happy.

Fourth, get your hips into it! The hip musculature originates and dissipates (controls) body forces; forces like gravity, ground reaction (forces coming up from the ground when taking a step), and external forces (weights, exercise bands, etc.) acting on the system. The hips are the crossroads for many forces working on the body. Proper motion and strength in your hips can help make other parts of your body perform better.

A few sample exercises that incorporate the above principles are:

* Three position lunges. Lunges to the front, side and drop step (stepping back at a 45 degree angle).

* Squat to overhead shoulder press with dumbbells.

* Squat to row – similar to the seated row, only in a standing position. When arms are out, you are in a squat position, when you pull back to row, bring your hips forward and stand up.

I could talk for hours about the benefits of full-body multi-plane exercise routines. Hopefully you understand why it is so important to your movement success and ultimately your fitness success.

Take home points from this article:

* Train on your feet, in three planes of motion. * Work through your hips to train your brain * Full body, synergistic routines send the proper information to the brain about successful movement patterns.

Ultimately, this will improve:

* Movement * Weight loss * Energy * Balance * Flexibility * Strength * And help eliminate joint pain and injury possibility.

Good luck, train your brain…your body will thank you.

Better Brain Boosters: Natural Not Artificial Ways To Brain Strength : Brain Foods

Article by Brenda Skidmore

Most people don’t consider how hard their brain works for them every day. We are usually focused on the rest of our body and unfortunately, we do not know how to properly care for our hard working brain.

We have bitten into the assumption hook, line, and sinker ( bought and paid for by the pharmaceutical industry) that at some point we will lose our control of our memory as we age. A strong and sharp memory does impress others, especially well into our later years.

It is possible to boost brain power at any age after making a few simple lifestyles changes. These powerful strategies can work in as little as two weeks! The simple changes I’m talking about are brain food, exercise, antioxidants, and plenty of water.

The healthiest brain food of all is well documented, and that would be omega-3 fatty acid. A deficiency of this essential fat can impair your learning ability, intelligence, and increase your risk of depression and memory problems. Omega-6 fatty acid is an essential fatty acid that we need too, and it is considered a healthy fat for our bodies. Unfortunately, we eat to much of it at a rate of about 20:1. Ideally we should be consuming it at a rate of about 4:1 with omega-3. An overload of omega-6 is believed to induce inflammation, which is undesirable throughout the body, and especially in the brain.

Getting more omega-3 is as easy as eating more cold water fish such as mackerel, salmon, tuna, haddock, lake trout, or herring. If contaminated fish sources scare you supplementing with fish oil is a good way to get your omega-3. Chickens that are fed a a fish meal mixture will produce eggs that are rich in omega-3. Walnuts and flax are other sources of this much needed nutrient.

Exercise does benefit your brain cells. The blood vessel system inside your brain will dilate and improve blood flow when you engage in regular exercise. Exercise helps get out the toxins or other offending agents and lets oxygen and nutrients flow in so your brain can use them.

Antioxidants like vitamin C and E help protect brain cells from damage caused by free radicals. Vitamin E can be found in food sources like wheat germ, yogurt, soy yogurts, and sunflower seeds. Getting enough is difficult sometimes and supplementing is often recommended. Vitamin C helps boost immune response and helps lower inflammation. Inflammation in the brain is the last place you want to see this of anywhere in the body. Of all the B vitamins B12 is also an important nutrient for healthy brains, as well as the mineral magnesium.

The importance of adequate water intake is poorly understood by most people in proper brain health. In his book “Your Body’s Many Cries For Water” Dr. Batmanghelidj, MD explains, water that the brain uses as electrical energy is generated by the water drive of the energy-generating pumps. With no water (dehydration) the level of energy generation in the brain is decreased. Many functions of the brain that depend on this type of energy become inefficient. This inadequacy of function is recognized as depression. This”depressive state” caused by dehydration can lead to chronic fatigue syndrome. In other words these labels of disease are really just seen to be associated with stress. A dehydrated body is a stressed body.

Taking care of your brain health just makes sense anyway you look at it. Your brain pretty much controls every function throughout your body.

Drug companies would like for you to believe the solution is to take one of their antidepressants daily for the rest of your life to restore your “chemical imbalance”. Which after you quit taking, often times many discover, the condition is not healed and returns.

The fact is anyone of these, or a combination of the natural strategies mentioned above have been proven to work time and time again. The question is which of these methods makes more sense and what would you rather try?

Brenda Skidmore has spent the last three years researching natural health care alternatives. She can attest to the many benefits of natural practical cures and preventive strategies for human health.
