Games to Improve Memory for Greater Recall : Memory Exercises

Article by Tyler Buchanan

Among the best methods for improving memory is playing games that enhance the memory and by doing activities that exercise the memory. Improve memory games and activities of this type are available and can be practices each day to improve memory without exhausting yourself.

Mental exercises can be performed as you go through your day. Many have made the comparison of the brain to a muscle that can be exercised for increased mental strength when using the right kind of activities. Using routine daily activities to give your mind a workout is one way to accomplish that. Games to exercise the memory can be improvised that help enhance recall. Perhaps you’re a TV watcher. Make an effort to come up with the answers to the questions when viewing a game show. Make a mental note of the questions and answers and see how many you can remember later. In your mind create a list of the most often played commercials and try guessing which one will be aired next.

Working crossword puzzles in the daily paper is a good memory improvement game that will give you a good mental workout. And while you’re at it read the paper the paper, because reading is a great mental exercise in itself. And while reading practice understanding what’s being said. To fully concentrate on what you’re reading read out loud slowly, and repeat it back to yourself later before moving to the next line.

You can create memory exercises while you’re working. A good game to improve memory if you work with other people is to assign a number to each person and practice recalling each person’s number later. Use three-digit numbers to make it a little more difficult. As you go to work and back to home try a different set of streets or roads and then recall the names of each later.

Doing new activities can present a healthy challenge to your mental stamina. Taking on a foreign language requires concentration and memorization, as does learning to play an instrument. Tap into your creative faculties by writing poetry or songs. Release your imagination. Don’t wait to be inspired. Make up your mind to be creative and come up with something.

Make it a habit to practice using your memory. There are so many games that strengthen the memory and provide ways to practice concentration on a daily basis. Games that improve memory are fun and helpful in passing the time when you’re in a waiting situation such as waiting to see the doctor or dentist. These exercises and games not only help to improve your memory, but they help you have fun doing it.

Vitamins : How Come You Don’t Know the ABCs of Vitamins

Article by Paul Dunphy

Vitamins are chemicals other than proteins, carbohydrates, fats and mineral salts that are essential constituents of the food of animals. Certain animals can synthesize certain vitamins and all animals needing vitamin D can manufacture it from the presence of U.V. They are essential to life, and with few exceptions can not be made by an animal’s body, but must be supplemented in the diet. Vitamins are organic molecules that are necessary for normal metabolism in animals, but either is not synthesized in the body or is synthesized in inadequate quantities. Consequently, they must be obtained from the diet.

Vitamins are responsible for keeping cells strong, binding tissues, fighting infections, etc. Without vitamins our cells would not function properly and thus our organs would suffer and eventually we would no longer be able to survive. Vitamins and minerals are present in the food that we eat everyday in varying degrees depending on the type of food. Different types of foods give different types of vitamins. Vitamins regulate metabolism, help convert fat and carbohydrates into energy, and assist in forming bone and tissue.

Vitamins are classified as either water -soluble, meaning that they dissolve easily in water, or fat-soluble vitamins, which are absorbed through the intestinal tract with the help of lipids (which are essentially fats). In general, water-soluble vitamins are readily excreted from the body. Vitamins are organic substances that are essential for the proper growth and functioning of the body. Unlike protein, fat, and carbohydrates, vitamins provide no calories. While these molecules serve essentially the same role in all forms of life, higher organisms have lost the ability to synthesize vitamins.

Vitamins are organic molecules that function in a wide variety of capacities within the body. The most prominent function of the vitamins is to serve as cofactors for enzymatic reactions. Vitamins and minerals have a unique role to play in maintaining your health. For example Vitamin D helps your body absorb the amount of calcium (a mineral) it needs to form strong bones.

Vitamins and minerals such as iron, calcium, and folic acid are vital for proper fetal growth, development and healthy adult living. Vitamins and minerals boost the immune system; support normal growth and development, and help cells and organs do their jobs. For example, you’ve probably heard that carrots are good for your eyes. Your body uses these substances to stay healthy and support its many functions.

Vitamins are a vital part of a healthy diet. The RDA (recommended dietary allowance), which are the amounts healthy people need each day to remain healthy

Short Term Memory : Memory Games: Do They Really Help you Enhance Your Memory

Article by Erik Skillern

Have you tried to say a phone number over and over again until you memorize it? Many people use this technique to retain information to their memories. However, we tend to forget the phone number after few hours or may be after one day.

This happens because you retain the phone number to the short memory rather than to the long term memory. The short term memory can be very useful for quickly remembering some information such as telephone numbers, but unfortunately it can store bits of information for very short period of time.

In order to remember things for a longer period, you must relate the new data with the data you already know. This help retaining data to your long-term memory and so store the information for longer intervals.

There are numerous techniques that are quite laborious to improve our memory. However, you can also have techniques that are both funny and beneficial. Here you can find several games such as puzzles that can practice your memory.

One way to recall information that you need to retain to your long-term memory is to create a story that associates the particular items or data you need to recall, making them easier to remember. The idea here is that it is easier to recall more data when a fact or data is associated with another idea.

While creating the story, you can also make a strong mental image of what is happening. This aids in associating the information to a picture and concretize it into your long-term memory.

Story-telling is fun while performing with a group. You can rehearse by laying 10 or more things on the floor and try to recall them. Each person in the group takes his or her to add to the story by adding another object.

After you finish adding all the objects in the story you can take them out of the room. After that check to see who can remember most objects. Finally, tell the story as a group by asking each member to tell his or her part. There is no doubt that the group will remember the story and hence all the objects associated.

Another mind-practicing game is the pexeso. This game is a matching pairs like tiles or cards from a group, when one of each group is not visible.

The game can be played with a set of tiles which has pairs of symbols or images. You can play the game using half a pack of cards, but ensure that you have pair of each card i. e 2 queens, 2 jacks, 2 aces . .. . etc.

You start the game by placing 12 matched pairs of cards face down. Then move the cards around to ensure that you don’t know which is which.

Turn one card one at a time and look at the number or the picture, and then turn it down again. You can repeat this process until you turn over a tile that matches a tile you turned earlier. Now, find the card’s pair by recalling from earlier where it is placed. When you located a pair, remove them from the set. You can also devise your own games but you should be sure that they are really mind-practicing games such as puzzles and solving problems.

Games like this will exercise your brain and your memory. Through these games, you can expect that your memory will be a lot sharper and also a lot more accurate.

Boost Your Brain Power Using Neurobics : Brain Power

Article by Greg Frost

Neurons refer to nerve cells found in the human brain. Neurobiologists highly recommend neurobics as the most appropriate exercise to boost your brain power. The habits you are currently used to are responsible for your current results. You can also improve or better your results if you change your habits. There are several ways to boost your brain power which people can employ and get desirable outcomes. However, this article intends to highlight only the major strategies that can be used by different ages to boost brain power. All the strategies that are discussed here are in form of exercises:

1. Developing motor pathways. This is an essential exercise recommended for people in all ages. Even at old age, you can employ this exercise to boost your brain power. Tightening up connections as well as new pathways is quite simple so long as a person is consistent in the exercise. For the right-handed, try using your left hand when changing clothes, making phone calls, eating, writing among other activities that you perform using your right hand. This exercise helps in creating new pathways for nerves and aids to boost your brain power.

2. Cognitive ability. This might involve playing your favorite game or doing any other activity that will task your mind. For instance, use a new way to reach the workplace such as using a new path, traveling different directions, changing the position you sit in an office or using a different chair, disarranging the contents of your table among other adjustments in your daily routine. This is where brainwave entrainment technology comes in, such as watching a new movie on the latest DVD. Such movies require extra thinking hence boost your brain power. Stagnation in habits bars the growth and development of your brain. If you are used to watching soaps, try watching horror movies and your brain will definitely be ignited.

3. Stimulating other senses. Just like the first strategy, try to do things differently. For instance, closing your eyes when carrying out ordinary activities such as taking a bath, dressing, washing dishes will ignite and develop dormant senses that you rarely use in the course of your daily activities. For instance, blind people have a superior auditory sense as compared to people with acute eyesight. Blind people also have a sharp sense of touch and smell and can identify people they regularly interact with just by touching them or smelling them. Boosting brain power requires more than just carrying out the ordinary activities.

4. Having enough sleep and rest. It is recommended that sleeping for eight hours in the 24-hour cycle will greatly boost your brain power. Lack of enough sleep and rest leads to a feeling of stress. The lesser the stress, the more your mental functioning will be. The current economic hardships have seen people spending as little 3 hours on sleep to make ends meet. Beware, such habits will have adverse effects on the functionality of your brain which you need for the success of your chores.

Neurobics protect your brain cells from aging, boost brain power, improve cognitive function and reduce your vulnerability to Alzheimer’s disease.

The Best Brain Supplements : Brain Vitamin

Article by Holly Avens

What would you do if you knew that you could prevent memory loss and Alzheimer’s? Well it is possible to do just that with exercise, healthy eating, good sleeping habits and proper supplementation for the brain. Studies have been done that link to this result and it is amazing to think that you are in control of your own outcome, not genetics in this aspect. There are three supplements that are recommended in order to sustain good brain health; which are CoEnzyme Q10, a Comprehensive Multi-Vitamin and Acetyl-Carnitine.

CoEnzyme Q10CoEnzyme Q10 is a powerful antioxidant that provides energy to all cells, especially in the heart and brain. CoQ10 is vital to your brain power. Aging causes a loss of CoQ10; which is why your brain can not function at full speed like it once did. The recommended dosage is 100-200 milligrams. Supplementing with CoQ10 has been researched and has been proven to be effective and safe. It is important to realize the role that CoQ10 has in your brain functionality and to take the proper steps to help your brain stay at its optimal level.

Comprehensive Multi-VitaminTaking a Multi-Vitamin that contains at least 400 mcg of folic acid and 500 mg of Vitamin C is important for many reasons. Folic acid overall reduces homocysteine; which is the culprit in causing heart disease and strokes. Folic acid and Vitamin B12 work together to prevent brain damage; which would have occurred otherwise. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that promotes the transmission of messages throughout the brain. Vitamin C overall reduces the risk of Alzheimer’s by 20% to where it keeps the brain functioning efficiently and effectively. Again, make sure the multi-vitamin has the stated amount above in order to get the optimal results.

Acetyl-CarnitineAcetyl-Carnitine is the third brain supplement to help prevent memory loss and Alzheimer’s. The key to this supplement is that it can protect the brain from neurotoxicity and oxygen deprivation. As you can see that this goes hand in hand with CoQ10. As CoQ10, gives the energy to each cell, Acetyl-Carnitine creates an environment for rejuvenation for the mental and physical function of a cell. It is recommended that no more than 1,000 mg of Acetyl-Carnitine a day be consumed without the approval from your doctor. As can you can see these supplements are vital to good brain health. Taking them will allow you to feel better overall and later in life you will have better memory than you could have; which will lead to a better quality of life. Act now to protect your brain with exercise, a healthy diet and great brain supplements.

Short Term Memory : Five Ways to Improve Memory Free of Complexities

Article by Randy S.Jenkins

It doesn’t matter if you’re just afraid of losing your memory with age or are cramming for a big test tomorrow – you just want to improve your memory without having to resort to daily detailed mind exercises. This could be because you just want relatively simple ways to begin improving your memory performance.

Aside from regular mental exercises such as crossword puzzles (or any puzzle, really) and quizzes, here are some basic activities and habits you can pick up to answer your questions on mental ability and almost effortlessly Improve your Memory for Free.

1. Pay attention. This is one of those things that are easier said than done but here’s the thing: All the information we gather goes through our sensory memory first before getting stored into the short-term memory and later the long-term memory. The brain processes information through selective attention. This means that the brain chooses only the information it deems are important based on the feedback it gets from your senses. Logically speaking, if you focus your senses (a.k.a. your attention) on a specific information source, you are more likely able to transfer the information to your short-term memory – and it only takes about eight seconds to do so. If you are having trouble focusing your attention, it is advisable to seek a quiet place to concentrate.

2. Learn and express yourself. Paint. Dance. Teach. Take up another degree. Learn a new skill. Take up a hobby. Any of these can improve memory free of stress. These will not only let you loosen up and have fun but also increases brain activity and maintains it on a regular basis. Studies show that this kind of mental stimulation reduces the risk for dementia.3. Write. These need not be long diary entries or a winning novel. Just write. Write down your appointments or to-do list and stick them somewhere easy to see like the fridge, your corkboard or even on your office desk. Writing these down helps create imagery which you can use to associate with the words that form your memory. Besides, planners and lists also help you keep track of things that you might not deem as important, are only temporary, or take some time to get used to (like the week’s menu or shopping list, appointments, or birthdays). This practice also lowers your risk for Alzheimer’s disease as writing and packing your ideas in written sentences has always been an indicator of one’s vulnerability for the disease.4. Interact with people. Interaction is proven beneficial as it decreases the risk for mental decline. Also, interaction can trigger recollection of some memories which in turn can trigger other memories. Reminiscing old memories with family or friends can also lead to them remembering other long-forgotten moments; it’s a good way to support each other. Sharing these memories and even facts also fixes the information in your memory.

5. Get enough rest or take a nap. Resting refreshes the mind for another round of information to take in. Naps during the day, however, help you retain the information you have taken earlier since long-term memories are formed during these few minutes of sleep. On the other hand, lack of rest may lead to exhaustion and confusion.

Now these practices will form habits that would strengthen your memory performance and improve memory free of difficulties. However, keep in mind that these are supplements to having a set way or technique of remembering things more effectively.

3 Effective Photographic Memory Techniques For You : Photographic Memory

Article by Gregory Frost

Who says that only mind freaks can have photographic memory? You definitely can hear the oohs and aahs when the Mind Freak himself was able to draw for you a detailed drawing of the entire city just after a 5 min helicopter ride. It is a miracle how these people are able to remember so well. Now, imagine if you have the exact same power and ability. Wouldn’t that be incredible? Just glimpse through your textbooks the hour before you sit for your exam and you will definitely score a miracle ‘A’. Check out these 3 effective photographic memory techniques for you that you can use and benefit from.

Before getting started, photographic memory requires some kind of practice and technique too. So if you cannot do it after the first try, do not quit. Give yourself some time to get used to it too.

First, the link system is usually used to aid you with all sorts of memory work. This is highly useful for memorizing texts in the form of lists or chores. So, lets say if you have a long shopping list to remember, try to get all the words and try to make it into mental scenario out of it. Example, if you are given a list of things – pink, shirt, cat, slippers, ironing and flowers, make a picture out of this by thinking of CAT wearing a SHIRT printed with FLOWERS and so on. When you reach the last item, try to link it to the first. This short mental film will help you to remember effectively and quickly.

The second method is to use the peg system. The peg system is used usually to remember images in a sequence. This number-shape system will help you to remember the sequences of images accurately in a jiffy. For example, you are given pictures of a dog, cat, mouse, elephant, antelope and giraffe arranged in this sequence. To use the peg system, simply attach a number to each picture Example 1 dog, 2 cats, 3 mice, 4 elephant et cetera. At the same time, use your mental scenario to make the peg system work. Remember to link the animals to each other, by using the same technique as mentioned in the link system.

The last technique would involve the use of the ever-famous mind mapping. Back in the school days, the mind mapping technique is a very popular and highly encouraged technique. However, over time, people choose to chuck this technique away simply because they are finding it harder to use. Well, this of course depends on the kind of area you are planning to use the mind mapping technique for. To use the mind mapping technique effectively, simply take the key central image of the concept and branch out information that is related. It might get messier as you go by, but it is an excellent tool for organizing a busy timetable or storing large quantities of information.

Developing photographic memory is not at all that tough. If you are not born with this gift, then get sneaky and try out these tricks and apply them. Your friends will be shocked by your tremendous improvement in your memory work.

One way you can do that is by learning ways to increase brain power. After all, the brain is the mastermind of your body. And given the opportunity, your brain can take you to great heights.

If you want to know how to increase brain power, then you’ve come to the right place.

1) Consume Gingko Biloba.

Gingko Biloba is the national tree of China. But its main contribution to your brain power is in its leaves. The leaves have been known to improve memory and induce mental alertness in healthy individuals. It encourages more blood flow to your brain and also helps in reducing mental fatigue.

However, keep in mind that Gingko Biloba should be used with caution. If you have a blood clotting problem, are pregnant or taking anti-depressant drugs, find another alternative to increase your brain power.

2) Exercise Your Brain.Your brain also needs to work out! Instead of being a couch potato and letting the television do all the thinking for you, why don’t you solve a crossword puzzle once in a while? Engage in a Sudoku match or play a strategic game of chess to increase brain power.

These activities get your mental faculties thinking, which in turn, improves the way it operates. Think of your brain as a car. Unless you take it out the garage once in a while, its parts will start rusting and will eventually become unreliable.

3) Do Not Overstress.

Too much stress can literally cause brain damage. If you really want to increase your brain power and keep your brain healthy at the same time, I advise you to avoid getting yourself in a succession of stressful situations.

If your job is naturally stressful, then take a few breaks in between projects. Spend the weekend at home, relaxing in bed. Or if that’s too indulgent, take two hours off and get yourself a nice, relaxing massage.

It is easy enough to learn how to increase brain power. The challenge, of course, lies in keeping the habits up, even after a week has gone by. But if you put your mind to it, I’m sure there is nothing you can’t handle. Your brain is very powerful. Don’t let its potential go to waste.
